How to Beat Lu Bu in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

Lu Bu only has one health bar, but he will cycle between phases of being on and off his horse. Each form has its own move sets and parry timings you will need to learn in order to defeat Lu Bu. But before we go through them one at a time, let us give one general tip that saved us hours of sore thumbs and whole lot of heartache.

Wo Long emphasizes the fact that any move can (and often should) be parried. But if you’ve been neglecting the block up until this point, now is a good time to cozy up to that shoulder button. Blocking will negate the damage from many of Lu Bu’s attacks that are too fast for you to parry, especially as you are learning the fight. This will greatly boost your survivability.

Plus, did you know that you can perform a successfully parry while holding down the block button? That’s right, so you can always hedge your bets… just be wary you don’t let your Spirit Gauge get too full. You don’t want to leave yourself stunned and open to one of Lu Bu’s many near one-hit kill attacks.

It is important to play defensively in this phase. For starters, you will want to try and negate incoming damage and save yourself from using healing items by deflecting or blocking all incoming attacks. Blocking works just fine here.

Lu Bu will launch into one of two critical blows in this phase. The first has him jump and falling at you from the sky. Deflect as he is falling to successfully parry this blow. In his second critical blow, Lu Bu will charge at you. Deflect before he gets too close.

Once you’ve parried, you will want to hit Lu Bu with at least one Spirit Attack. If you can consistently parry his critical blows and follow them up with Spirit Attacks, these horseback phases will start to go quickly.

When Lu Bu dismounts, you know he means trouble. His first attack this phase is always a trickier version of the leap and dive critical blow from the horseback phase. You want to give him even more time in the air before hitting the deflect button in order to not get obliterated right at the start of the transition into this phase.

His other new critical blow in this phase is a move where he will charge at you on foot. Wait until he is basically touching you, since his attack is on a delay after he reaches you, and you will pull off a parry. The same rules apply here: Use Spirit Attacks, but beware that when he falls below half health Lu Bu will start attempting two critical blows in a row.

When Lu Bu lands a critical blow, his weapon will become enchanted with flame for a while. This makes his attacks hit much harder and do fire damage. The quickest way to get him out of this mode is, you guessed it, to deflect another one of the boss’s critical blows.

While having your armor and weapons upgraded as far as you can at this point in the game certainly helps, this boss fight is really all about timing. If you are still struggling, the game offers help in the form of summoning AI companions and other players. Trust us, this really can help turn the tide of a battle.
