WoW: Dragonflight — How the Spirit Stat Works

The Spirit stat returns in WoW: Dragonflight, but how does it work this time?

Now that it’s returned, you might be wondering how the Spirit stat works in WoW: Dragonflight. You might remember Spirit since it was in vanilla WoW but later removed during Legion. As somebody who tends to play casters, I relied heavily on Spirit for most of my time spent playing, and it looks like my fellow casters, and I will seek out gear with the stat once more now that it’s back.

How the Spirit Works in WoW: Dragonflight

Spirit has always been a stat that caused a bit of confusion in WoW regarding how it works, but in the past, it would grant health and mana regeneration. Because of this, you would prioritize Spirit as a healer or caster. In WoW: Dragonflight, Spirit doesn’t offer any health regeneration, but you can still get mana from it. If you take a look at the patch notes on Wowhead, you’ll see Spirit described as a stat that gives mana.

Here are a few important notes to remember:

  • Imbued Frostweave Slippers are the only item with Spirit currently.
  • As a cloth item, its use is limited to Warlocks, Priests, and Mages.

Specifically, Spirit has a chance to restore some mana every time you use an ability. So while it’s similar to the original version of the stat, Blizzard changed it from a steady stream of regeneration to an RNG-based system. And yet, if you’re playing a cloth-wearing class, grabbing the Imbued Frostweave Slippers from Dawn of the Infinite will still benefit you, even if Spirit works a bit differently now.

But knowing how Spirit works in WoW: Dragonflight might have you wishing more pieces of gear had it. As you wait for more Spirit gear to be added, check out other guides like finding the Buried Vault or Halls of Valor.
