To start using the Purah Pad Camera, you’ll need to trigger a chain of events that starts by speaking to Josha, who lives in the north of Lookout Landing at coordinates -0255, 0148, 0020. Talk to her during the “Camera Work in the Depths” main quest, right after you complete the “Crisis at Hyrule Castle” story mission.

After speaking to Josha, you’ll need to find Robbie, who decided to take pictures using the Purah Pad’s Camera. You can find and speak to Robbie southwest of Lookout Landing, at the Iayusus Lightroot, Central Hyrule Depths (-0358, -0397, -0478). Our in-depth where to find Robbie guide has more details if you can’t locate him.

Once you finish talking to Robbie, he’ll unlock the Purah Pad Camera ability for you, as well as Hyrule Compendium. He’ll ask you to take a picture of the statue behind him, which serves both as a story element and a basic tutorial on how to use the Camera in Tears of the Kingdom.

How to Use the Purah Pad Camera in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The Purah Pad Camera is really easy to use. Here are the controls:

  1. Press and hold “L” button to open the abilities menu.
  2. Use the wheel to select the Camera ability at the end of the list.
  3. Tap the “L” button again to bring up the camera onto the screen.
  4. Use the D-Pad to zoom in and out until you see the entire statue in your view.
  5. Tap the “A” button to make the picture.
  6. Press “OK” to confirm.

If you did everything right, any images will go straight into your Hyrule Compendium album. You can show the picture of the statue to Robbie and later to Josha, which completes the “Camera Work in the Depths” main quest. As a reward, you’ll receive 5 Zonaite.
