Tears of the Kingdom: How to Use Amiibos

If you’ve used Amiibos for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you’ve done this all before. If this is new territory for you or you need a refresher, though, here are the steps.

Step 1: Register Your Amiibo

The very first thing any owner of the Amiibo should do is register your figurine by doing the following, but make sure that your Switch is in the Handheld mode:

  1. Go to “System Settings” menu from the Switch main screen (cogwheel icon).
  2. Select “Amiibo” tab.
  3. Select “Register Owner and Nickname” option.
  4. Place the bottom of the Amiibo figurine onto the stick of the right controller (NFC Touchpoint).
  5. Tap on your profile image to select the owner.
  6. Enter the nickname of your Amiibo figurine.
  7. Confirm by pressing “OK” and repeat Step 4 again.

Note that you need to repeat this process for each individual Amiibo figurine that you own.

Step 2: Activate Amiibos in Your Switch

After registering the Amiibo functionality, you need to activate it in your console:

  1. Pause the game at any point you wish to use Amiibos.
  2. Go to “Save and Load” menu.
  3. Select “Amiibo” in the “Options” tab.
  4. Toggle on “Activate Amiibo Functionality” feature.

Step 3: Scan Your Amiibos

After you’ve activated the Amiibo feature in the game, you can start scanning:

  1. Open your “Abilities” screen in the game.
  2. Select “Amiibo” from the list, which should be available now.
  3. Select area of engagement for Amiibo to drop in the game.
  4. Place the bottom of the Amiibo figurine onto the stick of the right controller for scanning to begin.

Once it has been scanned and loaded into the game, you’ll receive one of the respective cosmetic enhancements right away.
