GameTrailers Lays Off Key Members

GameTrailers may be hiring sooner rather than later. The higher ups just laid off some key members.

Whelp, there’s a surprise.

After another successful year of E3 coverage, it seems that not all is well for GameTrailers. Even though they had great coverage of the convention, a few people are now laid off and there may be more soon to follow.

Producer of GTTV Jeremy Hoffman and Director Ryan Stevens both made a post on Twitter confirming that they are officially no longer with the company. Here are the tweets from both of them:

This is a bit of a shock since GameTrailers hosted one of it's best shows in a while. While layoffs are common in the business world after big events, having two of the top people be laid off is a little worrisome.

However, this can be considered good news if you are one that is looking for a job since it seems a few positions will be opening up within the next few days.

It’s always hard to hear about people losing their jobs. Best wishes to all who are now without employment.

Viacom sells off GameTrailers to Defy Media (the same company that owns The Escapist) and they just couldn't wait for the ink to dry before they to start gutting the workforce.

Yeah, this is weird. I did get an odd feeling of tension from the GT staff though, like during that moment when they messed up and said the Ubisoft conference was happening 3 minutes earlier and then someone was screaming so loud in the guy's headset that you could hear the yelling on his mic. I dunno, maybe something happened behind the scenes we'll never know about.
