Sony: PS4 Launch Has Made Vita More Popular

Sony says the PlayStation 4 launch has given the Vita a big boost.

The PlayStation Vita hasn't exactly torn up the sales charts since it launched in early 2011. In fact, there have been rumors about the slick handheld's premature death.

Sony wants to focus on the positive, though. As SCEA Vice President of Product Marketing John Koller told Got Game, the arrival of the PlayStation 4 has helped the Vita's popularity.

You know, Vita has done very very well since the PlayStation 4 launch. People are starting to use it for things like Remote Play, which allows you to play PlayStation 4 games on your Vita via wi-fi. If you combine that, with things like PlayStation Now, you can play PlayStation 3 games on your Vita and utilize that brilliant screen. We’ve got a lot of titles from third party publishers as well as titles from us and it’s an exciting time to be a Vita owner because you get to play a cross section of the best games from across the PlayStation universe, so that makes it really special and a great portable device to boot.

Remote Play has been an oft-debated topic lately, as many owners of both the PS4 and Vita aren't thrilled. Many say the feature doesn't work very well; others claim it doesn't do exactly what Sony promised. Then again, I suppose if you want the full PlayStation experience, it's probably a good idea to have both the console and portable. The question is whether or not the PS4 will continue to have a positive impact on Vita sales.

If you hadn't noticed, Sony hasn't issued exact Vita stats for a while...
