Evolve's DLC Maps Are Free!

Turtle Rock Studios announces everyone gets DLC maps for free in Evolve.

In a recent interview with Evolve's Creative Director, Phil Rob, it was revealed that all maps in the Evolve DLC will come free of charge. This way, players are not restricted from playing with their buddies for not having the DLC packs.

During the interview with IGN, Rob confirmed that new monsters, hunters, and maps will come in post-release DLC support. Also, players who don't buy any of the DLC will still be able to play against the monsters or alongside the new hunters. He also added that those who do pre-order the game will receive the first monster DLC pack for free.

Evolve is a multiplayer shooter from Turtle Rock Studios. There are four little players, who are each distinct in ability, and one fifth player who controls the body of the giant, evolving monster. I can say that the closest thing I have seen to this concept would be playing Bowser in the Mario Party games. It's good to know they aren't excluding the DLC-less from all the fun.

So wait, is the DLC free? Or are players just able to play the content, if they haven't bought it, if they join a game where players have the DLC?

Like with Arma, BIS release Lite versions of the DLCs so that players who do not have the DLCs can play and use the things the DLC adds if joining a server with the DLC, or there is another game which allows that... forgot which though.

Also I said DLC too many times, it's lost all meaning (which isn't a casual joke at the useage of DLC, but can be if you want it to be).

The DLC itself isn't free (unless you preordered the game, then the first Monster DLC will be free.) You will simply be able to play with people who own the DLC, and on the same maps. They can use all of their nifty DLC characters and monsters, and you get to join in on the fun! So essentially, the maps and models are free, the ability to use them on your own is not.

Thanks! That's what I thought it was.
