Humankind Dev Video: How Strategy Game Will Vie With Civilization for the 4X Crown

Craft your own alternate, multi-cultural history with 60 civilizations when Humankind arrives later this year.

Amplitude Studios, the development team behind the Endless Legend and Endless Space franchises, is trying its hand at historical strategy in the vein of Civilization in its newest 4X venture, Humankind.

The development diary trailer footage below showcases how Amplitude has taken nine years of strategy-game development and used it toward crafting a historically accurate simulator in Humankind. While the 4X strategy game starts with real history and 60 cultures, it revolves around creating your own alternate-history narrative where ancient cultures may still be alive — even in the future.

Vikings battling ancient Egyptians in 2020 is possible as Humankind will allow players to re-write the entire narrative of the species.

The Humankind release date is currently unknown, but the game is expected to arrive sometime in 2020. It's not to be confused with 2019's Humankind Odyssey from Panache Digital Games and Private Division.
