EA is really not a very popular company right now. You might think a company just recently named worst in the world for a second year in a row by Consumerist would consider easing back on things that might engender negative feeling. You clearly would not be familiar with Electronic Arts if you thought so.
The gaming giant has been laying off employees over the past couple of weeks, and just recently announced these layoffs as incomplete, with still further of their employees being let go. The number of people gone could be in the hundreds by now, with every aspect of the company reportedly effected by them.
The closing of EA’s Partners division alongside all of these newly-unemployed people paints a very stark picture of the future. EA has already put forth an impression of not understanding or caring to understand the complaints of its customers or their actual wants, further centralizing and removing themselves from collaborative efforts is unlikely to improve that particular criticism.
Hopefully by this time next week, at least, EA will not still be announcing further “streamlining” or “organizational updates” for people to go to unemployment over.
