Headset Review - Zapping Brian's Brain For Science

The is a transcranial direct current stimulation device for gamers. Does it really improve concentration? Can a quick brain zap make you an eSports all-star? We'll test it!

We received our tDCS (transcranial direct current stimulation) for gamers device today and we had to try it out. All indications are that tDCS devices are perfectly safe, but if this is your first time pumping a few milliamps into your brain... you might be a bit skeptical too.

The Method

Our first task was to properly psyche Brian up and to then get him to sign a waiver and agree on camera that zapping his brain was OK. We show an unpacking of the device, go over some basic functions and then we run Brian's Brain through the tDCS magic. Then he played Awesomenauts.

The Result

After using the Brian reported, in our very scientific study, that he felt like his jumping ability had improved 10%.That's real results people!

The rating: We give the an initial rating of a 7. There is real science here, the packing, presentation and documentation are very nice, but we need more testing of the actual performance to refine the rating.

You call your experiment a "very scientific study" and claim it to be "real science"? HAHAHA, that was a good one. So have you done any further long term investigation on its effectiveness and possible side effects yet? If you could reproduce your results with a larger sample size i.e. number of participants n>1 that would provide a bit more reassurance.

The device wasn't even sending any current. To begin stimulation, you have to single tap the touchbutton after it's blinking. Everything you experienced was placebo.

That may be the case. After we figured it out a bit he couldn't even put it on his head without painful shock. We're waiting for the iOS app so we can actually see the configuration without having to decode a series of blinks and twiddles like the is an R2D2 unit.

have any body else tried this device? This method was weak, after 18 minutes of talking he played the game for 2 minutes and that's it. Is there some more information about it? maybe a manual or a thread on this?
