Kirby’s Return to Dreamland Deluxe Overview Trailer Details Additions, Changes

Kirby's Return to Dreamland "Overview Trailer" gives a clear look at the changes and additions coming to this Switch remake.

Kirby’s Return to Dreamland Deluxe is nearly upon us, so Nintendo is getting you ready for this remake by uploading an overview trailer. As the title would suggest, this nearly seven-minute guided tour gives us a clear look at all of the changes and additions that will be present in the “Deluxe” portion of this Switch remake.

Apart from some noticeable graphical changes (Deluxe has more of a cel-shaded look whereas the Wii original was a bit flat), the most significant addition here is the inclusion of an epilogue chapter. You’ll control Magolor after the conclusion of the main game where he gets stuck in a distant realm and loses his powers.

It looks to include some lite-RPG elements, such as gaining new powers by collecting orbs. There is no mention of how long this extra chapter will be, but it will probably be reminiscent of Bower’s Fury from Super Mario 3D World.

In the main Return to Dreamland game, you’ll find two new copy abilities for Kirby to use. One seems inspired by Planet Robobot and will let you don a mech suit and shoot laser beams. The other is called “Sand” and seems to be a different take on the Fire ability. You’ll not only be able to create mini sand tornadoes but cover yourself in sand to dodge incoming attacks.

Nintendo has also added a ton of new minigames here that run the gamut of the entire series. Things like “Egg Catcher,” “Kirby Samurai,” and “Ninja Dojo,” will provide a distraction from the main campaign when you need a quick break. These will also be playable with up to four players, so there is plenty of multiplayer goodness to be had. An extra online mode called “Kirby Samurai 100” is present, though it’s unclear if this is against live opponents.

All in all, it sounds like Kirby’s Return to Dreamland Deluxe will be a worthy upgrade for fans of the original Wii version. It should also prove to be an excellent purchase for those that haven’t already experienced the game. Kirby’s Return to Dreamland Deluxe releases on February 24, 2023, for Nintendo Switch.
