Microsoft learnt from mistakes, but too early to cry for E3 victor

After their lackluster performance last year, this year’s conference was a welcome improvement.

Microsoft stuck to their guns and got out their exclusive games like Halo 5: Guardians and Gears of War 4. They covered a wide variety of games in their conference, showing off indie games, a new Rare collection game, announced Beta access for both Rainbow Six and Tom Clancy’s The Division and gave time to discuss the new Xbox Elite controller.

They even showed off their virtual reality system Occulus with Minecraft, which was really amazing and finally showed their audience what VR can really do.

One thing that was undoubtedly impressive was their reveal of backwards compatibility for the Xbox One. That announcement quickly got the entire audience roaring in approval. It’s definitely safe to say that Microsoft has raised the bar for the conferences to come at E3.

However after seeing so many people stating that Microsoft has “won” E3 and that nothing any of the other companies can do will amount to Microsoft’s performance.

That is not true, not in the slightest.

So far only Bethesda has presented their games at E3 and not giving Sony, Nintendo, EA, Square Enix and Ubisoft a chance to defend themselves is very short-sighted. Sony could present information to rival Microsoft, their constant competitor, and has multiple games that have huge fan bases. Persona 5 had the Internet aflame with excited reactions with its trailer in February. EA could reveal more information about their mysterious Mass Effect project that they have been keeping under wraps for a while now.

This is not an attack on Microsoft, from it: they had an amazing conference. They were short, sweet, to the point and stuck to their guns. Comparing them to their performance last year is like comparing diamonds to coal, this year was leaps and bounds better. However, they have six more conferences to go before anyone can really, seriously consider them as the “Kings of E3.” In other words, it isn’t over until the fat lady sings.
