Who is Ollie in Poppy Playtime Chapter 3? These Clues Point to One Disturbing Possibility

Ollie guides us through the Playcare, but who is he, really?

Ollie’s presence in Chapter 3 has been a hot topic of discussion. We never see him, and the most we learn about him is through dialog and from Poppy trusting him as our guide. But does that give us enough information to determine who Ollie is in Poppy Playtime Chapter 3?

What can we piece together to determine Ollie’s identity in Poppy Playtime Chapter 3? When we’re heading to Playcare, a phone on the wall rings. The voice on the other side introduces itself as Ollie. For the sake of game mechanics, Ollie guides us through the Playcare area, helping us restart generators and later defeat CatNap. He has extensive knowledge of the area, so he was possibly an orphan there. However, I suspect Ollie is part of the Prototype, and I can back it up with evidence.

Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 Ollie Theory

Ollie could’ve been an orphan, but at this point, he’s likely become part of the Prototype. We know from the VHS tapes in Chapter 3 that the Prototype speaks with different voices, of those who became a part of him. And making others part of him likely results in their memories becoming part of the Prototype’s consciousness. But the Prototype is also able to mimic voices he’s heard, meaning he could’ve heard Ollie once and been able to impersonate him.

This becomes more than enough information to pick Ollie as a guide to gain Poppy’s trust and lure us through Playcare, bringing us closer to facing the Prototype. It doesn’t help that we never physically see Ollie, even though he always seems to know where we are. And while he could just be another off-screen orphan turned into a toy, it seems strange to never show him if he’s not part of the Prototype.

What are the Prototype’s Plans in Poppy Playtime Chapter 3?

So why would the Prototype have us face previous toys and his worshiper, CatNap. We know that the Prototype is cunning, and that he wants us to face him. The messages in the Playcare hallucination sequence only reinforce that idea. He’s set up toys to keep watch for us and drive us deeper into the factory, where we inevitably reach the lowest floor that he’s taken over. Even Poppy sends us into the Playcare instead of letting us leave. She wants us to defeat the Prototype because he killed innocent humans, but what does she gain if we succeed?

Instead, it looks like Poppy fell into the Prototype’s plan, as well, finding us and sending us to face him. When I take a step back and look at every character, it’d be more surprising to find out Ollie isn’t part of the Prototype. It all lines up too perfectly to not be set up by him, just like he set up the Hour of Joy.

While we can’t say who Ollie is in Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 with certainty, the best arguments lean towards him being another piece of the mysterious Prototype. However, we’ll have to wait for more information to learn the truth. From here, check out more topics like what the Hour of Joy was or what the Prototype looks like.
