Gamers Rejoice: Playable Female Characters In CoD Black Ops 3

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 to have the first gender-neutral story in the series; creators cite Sigourney Weaver and Commander Shepard as inspiration.

Everyone by now should have seen the trailer for Black Ops 3 and if you haven't, you should.  With all the features Treyarch is adding to gameplay, they are adding something that came as a pleasant surprise to many gamers: Black Ops 3 will be the first game in the series to have female playable characters.

Campaign director Jason Blundell mentioned being inspired by Mass Effect's Commander Shepard

The game will allow the player to choose the gender of the campaign protagonist and the game supports co-op for up to 4 players. Yep, in a Call of Duty game you will be able to play through the game in a squad of four female players.

The studio head Mark Lamia described the Black Ops 3 story as being gender neutral. He even made reference to the Alien script and how the character was originally written for a male actor, but Sigourney Weaver got the part. Campaign director Jason Blundell mentioned being inspired by Mass Effect's Commander Shepard and how the story did not change when you play a female or male.

As it comes out there will most likely be a lot of people complaining about it. And, while some want to keep Call of Duty an all boys club, they're going to have to suck it up when Black Ops 3 releases on November 6th.
