PlayStation Virtual Reality bundle announced

If you are looking to get your hands on the full PSVR experience, this $500 bundle may be your best bet. Select retailers will allow pre-orders on March 22nd.

Sony recently revealed its very own virtual reality system compatible with the PS4. The PS VR is slated to hit stores this October with a price tag of $400. What Sony did not mention was the need for other items that are not included with PS VR system. In order to enjoy the full experience -- or for the thing to even work for that matter -- you will need two move controllers and a PlayStation camera. The device will not work at all without the camera, so that is a necessity.

Separately, a set of move controllers run anywhere from $28 to $40 and the camera will cost you around $45 to $50. Put it all together and you are spending around $500, maybe more depending on where you buy these items. Don’t feel like scavenging stores and online retailers for these items separately? Fear not, Sony has officially announced a bundle that will be offered at select retailers. The bundle includes the following:

  • PS VR Headset
  • PS VR cables
  • Stereo Headphones
  • PlayStation VR demo disc
  • PlayStation camera
  • 2 PlayStation move controllers
  • PlayStation VR Worlds

While the $400 system sold separately does not have a pre-order date yet, the $500 bundle will go on sale Tuesday, March 22nd at 10AM EST/7AM PST. The lowest amount of money needed to pre-order the bundle has not been announced but the guess here would be anywhere from $20 to $50. What do you think of the bundle news? Is it worth it to buy the items separately or should you just take the plunge on the bundle?

Update: After stopping by my local GameStop, I can confirm that the lowest possible amount needed to pre-order the PS VR is $100. Those who plan to pre-order the $500 bundle better be ready to act quickly when they go on sale tomorrow. I was told that the GameStop nearest me would only be receiving 6 total bundles.
