That nifty Dead Space 3 exploit giving access to an unlimited amount of resources is apparently intentional. Speaking with GameFront, Electronic Arts claims that the farming “exploit” was intentional, and they will not be patching it in the future.
GameFront was the original source of the video highlighting how to infinitely farm a room in Chapter 8 of Dead Space 3. Some gamers saw it as convenient, while others saw it as sticking to the man. We all expected to see a next-day hotfix, but it looks like we’re (luckily) not going to get one:
“The resource-earning mechanic in Dead Space 3 is not a glitch. We have no plans to issue a patch to change this aspect of the game. We encourage players to explore the game and discover the areas where resources respawn for free. We’ve deliberately designed Dead Space 3 to allow players to harvest resources by playing through the game. For those that wish to accumulate upgrades instantly, we have enabled an optional system for them to buy the resources at a minimal cost ($1-$3).”
It’s hard not to wonder about whether or not this is EA making the ever-rare attempt to not look like the bad guy. We can all agree that EA isn’t too fond of losing money. It’s hard to imagine this type of free-farming to be intentionally left in a game with so many microtransactions.
