Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX Touches Up the Series' Roots

Merge Games is remaking the Sega classic Alex Kidd in Miracle World for modern platforms.

One surprise reveal in today's IGN Summer of Gaming event was Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX, a shiny new remake of Sega's classic 1980s platformer. Alex Kid in Miracle World DX will launch on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Series X, Steam, and PlayStation 4 and PS5 sometime during 2021's first quarter.

What we do know is it looks gorgeous with its remastered visuals. But those still yearning for the Sega Master system's graphics can swap back to those on the fly.

However you choose to play it, Miracle World DX includes all the original content plus new levels and new story elements as well. On top of that, it adds a brand-new boss rush mode and makes some alterations to how certain boss fights work. Finally, there's some quality of life tweaks to controls and other systems too, though we don't know what those are yet.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World is the first game in the six-game Alex Kidd series. And while it's not exactly hard to find thanks to its recent Sega Ages release, it's nice to see Alex Kidd in Miracle World getting a full-fledged remaster. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX news as it develops.

Josh Broadwell started gaming in the early '90s. But it wasn't until 2017 he started writing about them, after finishing two history degrees and deciding a career in academia just wasn't the best way forward. You'll usually find him playing RPGs, strategy games, or platformers, but he's up for almost anything that seems interesting.
