Elden Ring: Where to Find the Seppuku Ash of War

Add immense bleed buildup to your bleed build and bleed out anything that bleeds in this guide to Elden Ring's Seppuku Ash of War.

Bleed is king in Elden Ring right now. Add in the Seppuku Ash of War, and there are builds that can cause instant 100% bleed buildup, easily chunking down bosses and players alike with a single hit. But if you’re here, you may already know that. You’re wondering where to find the Seppuku Ash of War.

You won’t be getting your hands on Seppuku until late in a playthrough, but for meta-level PvP or any New Game Plus cycle, having it available can trivialize almost any encounter. This Elden Ring guide will tell you where to get it.

Where to Find the Seppuku Ash of War in Elden Ring

Start your journey to the Seppuku Ash of War in Mountaintops of the Giants. There’s a frozen lake at the far northwest portion of the Mountaintops of the Giants, reachable only with the Rold Medallion you receive after defeating Morgott, the Omen King in Leyndell. Up the Grand Lift of Rold, across the chain and rock bridges, and to the northernmost part of the large frozen lake is an invisible Teardrop Scarab.

Specifically, you want to be just to the right of the significant dip in the waterline on the map of the lake. Put yourself right on the corner of the angle and horizontal edges of the lake when looking at the map, and you should be close.

There will be a small, broken tree near where the Scarab scurries. When killed, it drops the Seppuku Ash of War.

Unlike the Hoarfrost Stomp Scarab (rest in peace Hoarfrost Stomp), the Seppuku Scarab circles around a small area. The enemy itself is significantly smaller, however, so it’s harder to hit.

Your best bet is to watch where the invisible Seppuku Scarab leaves footprints, then position yourself near the frozen shoreline and attack about a second before its footprints reach you. Doing so will see the Scarab roll into your swing and die instantly.

With the Seppuku Ash of War equipped on a compatible weapon, your character will stab themselves in the stomach, then rip the weapon out. This coats the weapon in your character’s blood, increasing the weapon’s bleed buildup exponentially.

While not as powerful, the Dark Moon Greatsword does something similar with Frostbite. If you pair the Seppuku Ash of War with the Uchigatana, no one will like you because you have too much honor, but you will be dicing up anything that comes your way.
