With the release of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries this upcoming September, Piranha Games will put an end to a more than 20 year absence of a single-player MechWarrior title. For fans that are already certain that they will want to pickup the new game, Piranha has recently outlined the perks that are available for pre-ordering it.

There are currently three pre-order tiers for players that want to reserve their copies of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries in advance. Not only do these tiers offer bonuses that are applicable to the upcoming release, they also come with rewards that can be redeemed in the multiplayer MechWarrior Online, which has been available since 2013.

To note, Piranha has indicated that these pre-order opportunities will be available for a "limited-time," but the company has not confirmed when pre-orders will close. Until then, the available bonuses are as follows:

  • 3 MW5-themed Titles, Badges, Decals and 9 Cockpit Standing Items, Warhorn items and Hanging Cockpit Items

Notable amongst these offerings is the beta access that comes with all three pre-order tiers. While it appears that this closed testing phase will not be available until August, fans that want to experience MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries as soon as possible may be happy to see this as an option.

Furthermore, there seems to be a great deal of value in the MechWarrior Online bonuses that come through pre-ordering. Players that spring for the $120 Community Edition, for example, are set to receive almost $230 worth of perks to be redeemed in the multiplayer MechWarrior.

To coincide with the announcement of these pre-order bonuses, Piranha has also released the new trailer featured above. This video gives a look at MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries' gameplay, which the company states is modeled after MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries, and it may entice some to jump on a pre-order sooner rather than later.

Players interested in pre-ordering a copy of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries can do so on the game's website.

Retailers: Amazon, GameStop, Ubisoft Store

At $59.99, the Standard Edition of the game comes with everything you'd expect it to -- the game and nothing else (no pre-order bonuses here). The Standard Edition is available physically or digitally for PS4 and Xbox One, and only digitally on PC.

All great things eventually must come to an end -- and the conclusion of the Tomb Raider reboot series signifies that. Preceded by two incredible entries, Shadow of the Tomb Raider marks the end of the reboot trilogy with its debut on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on September 14.

If you're planning on joining Lara's journey to save the world from a Maya apocalypse, it's dangerous to go alone. Use this pre-order guide to overcome the challenges of the deadly jungle and tombs to become the ultimate Tomb Raider.

From pre-order bonuses to special editions, we've got everything covered for you in this guide.

Pre-Order Bonuses

Pre-ordering any physical edition of Shadow of the Tomb Raider from most retailers nabs you a collector's steelbook case with three art cards. All digital versions of the game come with a skills booster pack that enhances skills in all three skill trees.

You also get access to the game 48 hours early if you pre-order any edition above Standard.

Here are the retailer-exclusive pre-order bonuses. These only apply to all pre-order options except the Standard Edition and its Limited Steelbook variant.

Standard Edition

Price: $59.99

For a time, you will be able to pre-order Limited Steelbook variants of the Standard Edition. These are the same as the Standard Edition, just with a Steelbook case.

The Standard Edition of the game can be purchased either physically or digitally for $59.99. It comes with the pre-order bonuses seen above, along with any retailer exclusives when purchasing physically. There are no additional bonuses. The Limited Steelbook is a good choice but is not available for PC.

Digital Deluxe Edition

Price: $69.99

The Digital Deluxe version of the game is the lowest tier that gives access to the 48-hour early access. Additionally, this version comes with a digital game soundtrack and an outfit/weapon pack. Each digital outlet comes with a small platform bonus as well such as a theme or avatar outfit.

Croft Steelbook Edition

Price: $89.99

For those who are confident they'll be raiding and exploring for a while, the Croft Edition of the game comes with all the standard pre-order bonuses along with the Season Pass ($29.99 value) and three additional weapons/outfits.

Season Pass content will release on a monthly basis starting in October 2018. For seven months, each update will come with a new "Path" -- including a new story, missions, a Challenge tomb, a new weapon, new outfit, and a new skill. Some of the Challenge Tombs will come with new co-op features.

Ultimate Edition

Price: $199.99

The most dedicated, hardcore Tomb Raider fans may have already nabbed up the limited amount of Ultimate Editions available, but there is a waiting list on the Square Enix Store for $200. If you're lucky enough to get this edition, it will come with a statue of Lara, a climbing ax bottle opener, a flashlight, along with all of the extras from any of the cheaper editions.

Your Definitive Black Ops 4 Pre-Launch Guide -- From Zombies to Battle Royale & More Tue, 22 May 2018 13:49:15 -0400 Ty Arthur

Call of Duty returns on October 12, arriving a bit earlier than normal compared to recent entries like last year's Call of Duty: WWII.

Fans guessed early on that Treyarch's return to the series would bring another Black Ops entry, but anyone who expected the return of a mind-bending, sci-fi-focused single-player campaign is in for a surprise. This is going to be a very different Call of Duty, as Black Ops 4 features a big shift away from some of the expected standards of the series.

Let's dive into absolutely everything you need to know about Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, from the new multiplayer-only focus to Blackout mode, the return of Zombies, and all the special editions and pre-order bonuses available.

Goodbye, Single Player

The follow-up to Black Ops III will purposefully exclude all single-player campaign content for all platformsThere will be no Cold War espionage or futuristic trips into the depths of the human psyche this time around.

Considering the shift in focus, hopefully, we don't have the same multiplayer problems as with the last Black Ops, like when no one could download camos or emblems. For the non-console crowd, Black Ops 4's multiplayer for PC will be handled through Blizzard's platform.

So what's happening with the multiplayer-only style? First up, we've got a return to the Pick 10 create-a-class system. Multiplayer maps will also stick more closely to the boots-on-the-ground approach the fan base seems to prefer, but there are a variety of abilities that each available Specialist uses.

Here's What We Know So Far About Each Specialist Type:
  • Battery -- Lobs grenades that either bounce or stick to surfaces
  • Ruin -- The rusher class that moves across the map with a grapple gun to quickly change elevation
  • Firebreak -- Emits a damaging radiation field and uses a flamethrower
  • Ajax -- The breacher class with a rapidly-deploying defensive shield that has a built-in pistol for instant fortifications
  • Recon -- Deploys a vision pulse that reveals enemies to your teammates through obstacles
  • Crash -- Support class that heals other players and provides ammo packs that give bonuses when used to kill enemies
  • Torque -- Trapper class that sets down razor wire to slow and damage enemies
  • Seraph -- Tactician class that lets your team redeploy at different locations

Sadly, it appears there will be no class that sends out a swarm of golden killer bees or takes over robotic enemies this time around. We got spoiled with Black Ops III.

Hello, Battle Royale Blackout Mode

Besides the standard multiplayer maps, Blackout Mode is the most notable change in Black Ops 4. It will employ the popular Battle Royale style of 100-player, last-man-standing combat. Blackout will also feature the biggest map in CoD history, described as 1,500 times the size of the iconic Nuke Town map.

We haven't seen a ton of specifics yet on how Blackout will work or differ from Fortnite or PUBG, although obviously, we know the basics considering the current Battle Royale craze.

Two important details have been unveiled so far: Blackout will feature aquatic, land-based, and aerial vehicles instead of just infantry firefights, and the map will include famous locations and characters from throughout the franchise colliding in one place.

Obviously, replaying single-player missions for hunting down collectibles will no longer be a thing, but if the weekly challenges in Fortnite are any indication, that shouldn't stop Treyarch from giving players regular new content as a reason to keep logging back on.

If there's anything we can assume, it's that there will most likely be some sort of Battle Pass associated with the game's BR mode -- which makes more plausible sens considering there's yet to be a Season Pass announced.

Black Ops 4 Zombie Mode

In another change for the franchise, all three tiers of Black Ops 4's Zombie mode will be immediately available at launch, without any extra purchases necessary. Essentially, it seems like Zombie mode will serve the role of the campaign, although obviously with a co-op bent.

Easter eggs were already getting insane in Infinite Warfare and WW2, so with a total lack of a single-player mode to engage players, expect the Black Ops 4's Easter egg hunt to be even more out of control.

This time around, it also looks like we'll have zombie-hunting mayhem on the Titanic, in ancient Rome, and in Alcatraz with these three scenarios:

  • Voyage of Despair
  • IX
  • Blood of the Dead

Black Ops 4 Special Editions and Pre-Order Bonuses

The pre-orders have been curiously restrained this time around as the focus of the game changes.

With a base price of $59.99, Amazon Prime members get 20% off the pre-order. If you don't have a Prime subscription, it's worth noting that Newegg currently has the BLOPs 4 pre-order discounted to $49.99.

Remember Black Ops 3's $200 Juggernog edition with the functioning mini-fridge/Perk-a-Cola machine? Well, there's nothing like that so far for U.S. customers, although the Australian Specialist Edition for $119.99 includes a 5" statue and a custom steel game case.

Instead, all standard pre-orders appear to be the same at this point, offering 1,100 points to use on in-game purchases. Notably, there's no extended Special Edition with a season pass for any region at this point.

Black Ops 4 Season Pass Shakeup

Let's reiterate that last point, as it marks a huge shakeup in the business model -- there's been no announcement of a season pass at this point, and none of the pre-orders list anything of the sort. Since all the Zombies content is launching on Day One, it seems the season pass is a thing of the past.

We can't expect this to be some sort of altruistic move on the part of Activision or Blizzard to let gamers play the game cheaper, however.

These games are released to make money, so expect in-game content like Battle Royale skins, multiplayer loot boxes, and all sorts of other microtransactions to make up a bigger focus.

Getting in on the Black Ops 4 Beta

Now for the big question -- how do we get in on the Black Ops 4 private beta? The beta has been confirmed to be accessible for anyone who pre-orders through any source.

The Black Ops 4 beta release date is unconfirmed at this point, though. It's possible it will arrive earlier or go longer for PS4 players, as Sony console fans got content earlier for the previous Black Ops title. Stay tuned for a finalized beta release date!

Are you looking forward to Black Ops 4, and what do you think of the switch away from a traditional single-player campaign? Do think the game's Battle Royale will add anything new to the formula or is it a simple cash-grab?

Let us know what you hope to see and if you plan to stick with the franchise in the comments below. As always, stay tuned to GameSkinny for more news and information on the next installment of the Call of Duty franchise as it develops.

Sega Unveils Sonic Forces Digital Bonus Edition and Free DLC Wed, 20 Sep 2017 10:41:42 -0400 Josh Broadwell

Sega is continuing its promotion of the upcoming Sonic Forces with some new announcements about the game and a new trailer as well (which you can view above).

The company revealed that all purchasers of Sonic Forces will receive the free day-one DLC "Episode Shadow", and PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners can pre-purchase the Digital Bonus Edition of the game starting now to receive a few additional items.

"Episode Shadow" focuses on Shadow the Hedgehog's relationship to the enigma that is Infinite, and explores the fate of Team Dark as well. You will be able to play as Shadow in more than 10 modern Sonic-style stages, but you also get three Shadow-specific stages as well. Whether the hedgehog maintains G-rated language throughout, though, Sega didn’t say.

Sega also revealed that the Digital Bonus Edition of Sonic Forces includes the previously announced Atlus add-ons -- featuring AiAi from Super Monkey Ball and Persona 5's Joker, among others. However, it also adds an extra Shadow skin for your character, special avatars, a couple of themes, and automatically includes the Episode Shadow DLC. As mentioned, this special set is only for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players, with nothing mentioned as of yet about plans for a Nintendo Switch bonus edition.

Let us know in the comments if you are looking forward to playing as Shadow again or are planning on picking up the bonus edition!

The Escapists 2 Breaks Out as Pre-Order Trailer is Released Tue, 11 Jul 2017 18:50:14 -0400 Adreon Patterson

With the E3 announcement of The Escapists 2, Team 17 unleashed the pre-order trailer for this anticipated sequel.

In the trailer, which you can watch above, we see escapee Jimmy Locke in all his 8-bit glory relaxing on the beach with a friend as he begins to tell the story of his escape from prison. He tells his friend through a series of funny (yet harrowing) vignettes about everything from failed escape attempts to prison food to his prison buddies.

All this is interrupted by a crew of police from both land and sea who have come to take the inmate back. This moment reveals a pre-order feature known as the Glorious Regime. The trailer shows this new high-security penitentiary as an action-packed thrillfest as players plan their escape through secret tunnels while avoiding military-like security, vicious dogs, constant surveillance, and a dictator-like warden.

But viewers are thrown for a loop when the trailer goes all 2003: A Space Odyssey, as a spaceman begins floating across an 8-bit space background. Immediately, the release date -- August 22, 2017 -- zooms over the viewer's head and lands in the middle of the screen. After that, the trailer ends with a floating release date and spacemen.

The sequel to the hit Team17-Moudly Toof collaboration will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch version to follow.

Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more news and information on The Escapists 2!

Assassin's Creed Origins: Pre-Order Buying Guide Tue, 20 Jun 2017 16:22:45 -0400 Angelica Dimson

Set to release on October 27 of this year for PS4, Xbox one, and PC, Assassin’s Creed Origins is the tenth major installment in the Assassin’s Creed series, and the sequel to 2015’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. This time around, the game is set in Ancient Egypt -- a thousand years before the rest of the series' timeline. It’ll act as a prequel to the franchise, unveiling the origins of the Assassin’s Brotherhood.

In addition, Origins aims to reinvent the franchise with a revised combat system that focuses on weapon hit boxes and positioning instead of timed animations. Enemies will have the same freedom, meaning you’ll have to implement more strategy to your attacks.

There will be six different editions of the game for fans to pre-order before the game officially launches later this year. Call of Duty: WWII Pre-Order Guide Mon, 19 Jun 2017 16:31:24 -0400 Serhii Patskan

The upcoming Call of Duty: WWII game will take you back in time, when the most devastating war of the 20th century took place between 1941 and 1945. This is Activision’s response to last year’s Battlefield 1 -- CoD’s main competitor on the gaming market.

The game is scheduled for release on November 3, 2017. Unlike many other companies, Activision doesn’t give too many options regarding their releases, whether digital or physical. Currently, there are only three types of editions of Call of Duty: WWII you can pre-order via the official website, and here’s what you will get in each of them.

Call of Duty: WWII Standard Edition

Price: $59.99

As usual, the Standard Edition of the game includes only the game itself without any bonuses. However, you will get an upcoming beta access code if you will pre-order either digital or physical copies for $59.99.

If you want to play the game as soon as it gets released, then it is advisable to pre-order the digital version, as it will be available immediately at the moment of release. Physical copies always arrive a bit later.

Another important thing to note that if you do decide to purchase Call of Duty: WWII digitally, then pre-ordering the Digital Deluxe Edition would be more beneficial than the Standard Edition.

Call of Duty: WWII Digital Deluxe Edition

Price: $99.99

In addition to the Standard Edition of the game with the beta access code, pre-ordering the Digital Deluxe Edition will also get you the Season Pass (which typically costs another $50), and other bonus content for the $99.99 price tag.

So if you do plan on paying for the DLCs, this edition includes everything in one pack with a discount. And if you are a PS4 owner, you will receive the additional content 30 days earlier than any other platform, whether it’s PC or Xbox One.

As for the contents of the deluxe bonus pack, there is no information available yet. But it is reported that the PS4 Deluxe edition will receive a special Dynamic system theme based on the game.

Call of Duty: WWII Pro Edition

Price: $99.99

The Pro Edition is the physical analog of the Digital Deluxe Edition with an additional collector’s Steel Book. Surprisingly, the price tag on the Pro Edition is also $99.99, but it is only available at GameStop -- and it's currently out of stock.

If you are an avid collector of exclusive gaming editions, then consider pre-ordering the Pro Edition if it becomes available again. Otherwise, buy the Standard Edition if you want to play the game without any DLCs, or the Digital Deluxe Edition if you’re planning on spending a lot of time in the game and taking full advantage of the Season Pass.

Life Is Strange Gets A Prequel, And You Can Pre-Order Now Mon, 12 Jun 2017 10:55:31 -0400 The Blind Seer

In Xbox's E3 showcase, it was revealed that Life Is Strange would be getting a three episode prequel titled Before the Storm, with the first episode being released for console on August 31.

While previous hints from DONTNOD Entertainment left Life is Strange fans with the sense that any sequel or addition to the story would focus on a separate cast of characters in the same universe, Before the Storm is going to be a prequel featuring some beloved characters from the original game. It takes place in a period of time before Max moves back to Arcadia Bay for school, and centers on Chloe and her life with Rachel.

The trailer, which you can view below, includes no dialogue -- just scenes from the game's three episodes which hint at Chloe exploring her life at school, the death of her father, fights in a bar, train hopping, and her relationship with Rachel. You can pre-order the first episode now on the Microsoft Store.

Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind Pre-Order Buying Guide Mon, 15 May 2017 10:09:36 -0400 Justin Michael

Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind is the 6th DLC expansion for the MMORPG since its release back in April 2014. Taking place in the 2nd Era, Year 582, this is the earliest title in The Elder Scrolls timeline to date and sees a number of points only referenced by in-game lore books from other games in the series.

Set for worldwide release on June 6th, 2017 for PC/Mac, PS4, and Xbox One, ESO: Morrowind is available now for pre-order in a number of different versions: Collector's Edition, Digital Collector's Edition, Digital Collector's Edition Upgrade,  Standard Edition, and Morrowind Upgrade.

Let's go ahead and break down these options to find out what each choice has to offer.

Collector's Edition

ESO: Morrowind Collector's Edition sits at the top of the edition list, and comes with everything offered in all of the other editions -- as well as some really great bonus items. This is the must-have for the die-hard ESO fans out there.

Besides the game and all of the current DLC available for it, the Collector's Edition also includes the following:

  • Exclusive metallic game case adorned with the marks of Vivec and the Tribunal.
  • A high-quality map of Morrowind for you to chart your adventures on.
  • 12" scale model replica of a Dwarven Colossus which was shown in the DLC trailer.
  • Naryu's Journal
    • This is a full-color book that covers Morag Tong assassin Naryu's journey across Tamriel, and includes a fair bit of concept art for the DLC.

On top of those great physical collectibles, you'll also get the Discovery Pack and the Unique Collectibles -- digital goodies that can be redeemed in game.

The Discovery Pack includes:

  • Exclusive Warden Costume
  • Dwarven War Dog Pet
  • Treasure Maps
  • Dwarven Crow Crate
  • Experience Scrolls

The Unique Collectibles Pack includes:

  • Armored War Horse
  • Dwarven Spider Pet
  • Morag Tong Armor Converter
  • Collector's Edition Gray Bear
  • Unique Character Emotes

If the Collector's Edition sounds enticing to you, then you can pre-order it now from Bethesda's website for all platforms. It will set your bank account back $99.99, which is about the average as far as Collector's Editions go.

Digital Collector's Edition

The ESO: Morrowind Digital Collector's Edition is a tier down from the Collector's Edition. If you are new to the game and wanted to pick up all of the current DLCs -- as well as score the awesome Discovery Pack/Unique Collectibles -- then this would be the pack for you.

While it doesn't come with the physical goodies of the Collector's Edition, it does come with the lower price tag of $79.99 and can also be found on Bethesda's website.

Digital Collector's Edition Upgrade

Let's suppose you already own ESO and possibly the previous DLCs, so you don't need the base game. You're also not a mega fan of the game, so you don't really care about that awesome Dwarven Colossus Statue in the Collector's Edition. If that's the case, then the Digital Collector's Edition Upgrade just might be for you.

It comes with the ESO: Morrowind expansion and Discovery Pack/Unique Collectibles, with the even lower price tag of $59.99. And, as stated above, it can be found on Bethesda's website for pre-order. You can also get it on Steam if you're playing on PC/Mac.

Standard Edition

The Standard Edition comes in at the same price of $59.99 like the Digital Collector's Edition Upgrade, but only comes with the base ESO game content and the Morrowind DLC. This is as basic as it gets for someone who is looking to get into the game at the lowest possible price point.

However, if you purchase this as a pre-order, the folks over at Bethesda will throw in the Discovery Pack on top of the base content. This is only for pre-order, though, so get it while it lasts over on Bethesda's website or grab it on Steam if you're playing the game on PC/Mac.

Morrowind Upgrade

If you already have the base ESO game and don't care about all of the extra frills, then the Morrowind Upgrade is the go-to option for you. Coming in at the lowest price point of $39.99, this upgrade will also come with the Discovery Pack items as long as you pre-order your copy. It can be found on Bethesda's website, or on Steam for you PC/Mac gamers out there.

System Requirements for ESO: Morrowind

The minimum system requirements for ESO on PC are:

  • CPU: Intel i3-3870
  • GPU: GeForce 460 or AMD Radeon 6850
  • RAM: 3 GB

Destiny 2 Reveal Trailer Shares Release Date Thu, 30 Mar 2017 15:41:32 -0400 ThatGamersAsylum

A couple days ago we were treated to a teaser trailer for Destiny 2. Today we were given a full a reveal trailer that officially told us the release date: September 8th. Pre-ordering now will guarantee access to the early beta, although we don't have any details on when this will start.

The trailer itself does not actually depict any gameplay. Instead it depicts 2 guardians -- one of whom is Robot Nathan Fillion from the teaser trailer -- at different locations giving rallying battle speeches. It opens with the first guardian, who looks like he could was pulled out of the ranks of Diablo's angels, uttering the lines:

"Times may be dark, but we are Earth's greatest hope. Look around you, a gathering of Earth's guardians new and old."

This is quickly countered by Robot Nathan Fillion giving his own ragtag group a rallying speech.

"Okay. Listen up. You're a bunch of dirty misfits. But you are all that's left, so you will have to do."

It would appear that the Tower and surrounding city has not only been attacked, but successfully destroyed -- along with all of your stuff. This confirms what we already knew: items will not be carrying over into Destiny 2. It's a worthy reason to avenge all those lost!

Watermelon Games New Game for the Sega Genesis Is a Beat'em Up Thu, 30 Mar 2017 11:40:26 -0400 GeorgieBoysAXE

The studio behind the JRPG love letter to 16-Bit, Pier Solar, has officially announced their new game after 4 years of quiet development. It's called Paprium, and will be made available on the Sega Genesis console.

Initially known as Project Y, the game will be an action-packed beat’em up in the vein of classics like Streets of Rage and Final Fight. Crafted around the architecture of the Sega Genesis, Paprium will feature 24 levels to punch and kick through -- with five different characters and three save slots to accommodate the large number of stages it offers.

The brawler will be sized at 80 MB and packaged onto a physical cartridge that will be compatible with both Genesis and Mega Drive hardware, promising advanced sprite detail and pixel art in 60 FPS.

WaterMelon is stressing that this will be a limited run of physical copies, and it's uncertain as to whether or not they’ll launch a Kickstarter campaign to bring the title modern hardware like they previously did with Pier Solar. Until an announcement like that crops up, the only way that you'll be able to play Paprium is on a Sega Genesis or MegaDrive.

The game is available for pre-order now on WaterMelon’s Magical Game Factory webstore. For the first 1,988 people who reserve pre-order copies, WaterMelon will also send out a free limited-edition manga that acts as a companion to the game's story. The game is set to release on September 16 of this year.

New Retro Controller Heading to the Xbox One Wed, 01 Feb 2017 11:11:40 -0500 Will Dowell

Retro gaming is all the rage these days, with lots of publishers trying to get a piece of the action. Nintendo already tried to win gamers over with the NES Mini, and now it's Microsoft's turn with the X91.

Created by hardware developer Hyperkin, the X91 takes inspiration from the 16-bit era and the controllers that came from it. Looking like a cross between a Genesis and SNES controller, the X91 merges retro charm with modern functionality.

While technically a third party controller, the X91 is officially licensed as an Xbox One controller by Microsoft. As a wired controller, the X91 will come with a 9ft cable. Like other Xbox One controllers, the X91 will be compatible with Windows 10 and tablets through USB connection.

The X91 will be released on Febuary 21, 2016 and is now available for pre-order. Priced at $29.99, the X91 will be considerably cheaper than the standard Xbox One wired controller.

Stay tuned for more Microsoft news!
