Where to Find More Ammo: How Difficulty Affects Spawning

You can get more ammo in Alan Wake 2 by changing the game’s difficulty and using certain charms and perks. Let’s start with the former. The campaign difficulties here include Story Mode, Normal Mode, and Hard Mode.

While Normal Mode offers a balanced experience, item drops tend to be scarce. It’s even worse on Hard Mode, where you really need to be mindful of your bullets. Story Mode, however, offers a more casual romp, and you can expect to find more items as you explore.

Likewise, it’s worth noting that the containers you stumble upon won’t always have the same items (assuming you reload your save and reopen the same container). Still, I noticed that I’d get the type of ammo I needed for a weapon that was running low. For instance, if I didn’t have a lot of shotgun shells left, I was more likely to loot these from drawers or chests.

Charms and Perks That Help With Ammo Management

You can also get more ammo in Alan Wake 2 by finding a very specific charm and using two specific perks.

Coffee World Token Charm: This item can be found once you solve a Nursery Rhyme in Watery’s Lighthouse Trailer Park. It’s only available during Saga’s chapters. It increases the quantity and quality of resources found, making it one of the best accessories in the game.

Words of War: Paint the Town and Words of Gun: Roulette — Words of Power perks are only available to Alan. These are found while you’re advancing through his chapters. Sadly, neither of these are as good as Saga’s Coffee World Token Charm. At best, the former greatly increases the damage of your shotgun when you hit two or more enemies (which means you save a few shells). The latter, meanwhile, has a small chance of preventing your revolver from consuming ammo when fired.
