The best formations in Homeworld 3 depend on your ship type and the size of the group. Here are the best formations for each type of ship:

  • Strikecraft (Delta and X): Smaller and faster ships like Fleet Bombers and Recon work the best using the Delta or X formation since they can do quick strafing runs for damage and then then maneuver around behind cover.
  • Frigates (Wall and Claw): For larger ships like Assault Frigates or Ion Frigates I like using the Wall formation because it keeps their slower movement speeds and rates of fire unified. You’ll often want to fire Ion Frigates on a high-priority target at the same time so a unified front helps with this greatly. Claw also works decently well when you want to have some spacing between your ships.
  • Corvette (Cycle and X): I would recommend the Cycle formation when you’re including Corvettes into units with Frigates because the Corvettes will stick to the back with the larger Frigates at the front. Otherwise, Claw and X also work for stand-alone Corvette units where you want them firing at the same time.

In all cases, I would just recommend that you keep your unit groups on the smaller side because it’s easier to maneuver them. Having larger groups slows down your overall maneuverability because the faster ships will have to wait for the slower ones creating delays.

Best Stances in Homeworld 3

In most cases, the best stances to take when there’s cover around are the Passive and Neutral stances. They will cause your faster ships to autopilot toward cover and utilize it fully thus reducing the damage you take. Strikecraft will fly in, do a strafing run of fire, and then retreat to cover as they maneuver back for another volley. That said, if you’re sure you have the upper hand and want a target down fast then switch to Aggressive since it will minimize your time using cover and focus on offense purely.

That’s it for my guide on the best formations and stances in Homeworld 3. For more Homeworld 3 guides check out our top 10 beginner tips.
