How to Create Control Groups in Homeworld 3

To make a unit group in Homeworld 3 all you have to do is select all the units you want in that specific group at once and press (hold) Ctrl and any number between 1 and 0. For example, let’s say I want to make three groups where one is a Recon group for scouting, another Recon group for guarding, and some Interceptors as an attack force. Follow these steps:

  • You can either Shift + LMB, Click on each Recon unit you want, or hold and drag LMB to make a selection box on the ones you want in a group, and then press (hold) Ctrl and 1 for the first group.
  • Then, do the same for the other Recons you want as a guard group and press (hold) Ctrl and 2.
  • Lastly, select all Interceptors and press (hold) Ctrl and 3.
  • You can now switch between them easily by pressing 1 for the first, 2 for the second, and 3 for the third group.

At any point, you can also add more units to a group or remove them as shown below.

How to Add or Remove Units from a Unit Group in Homeworld 3

You don’t have to start from scratch if you want to add a group you already made to another one. Instead, you can simply select the group you want to add to, for example:

  • Select the batch of units you want to add to an already existing control group.
  • Hold Shift and press the number for that unit group (Let’s say 1).
  • Then, with both the old group and new units selected press Ctrl + 1 to update the group.

You can also remove units like this. Select units you want out of a control group and press Ctrl and “-” which is to the right of “0”. This will remove those units from all groups. Lastly, you can also clear a control group by deselecting all units or clicking into empty space and pressing Ctrl and the desired number. This clears that unit group entirely. In fact, pressing Ctrl, Shift, and “-” clears all of your unit groups.

Now you can more easily micromanage your units so that’s how to create unit groups in Homeworld 3. Check out more of our Homeworld 3 guides.
