Best Ways to Make Money in Gray Zone Warfare

Making money can be easy in Gray Zone Warfare, so long as you know what to do.

The give-and-take in extraction shooters centers around how much money you have, and Gray Zone Warfare is no different. If you ever run low on funding, you can’t re-kit. If you can’t re-kit, you can’t take on the game’s harder content or fight other players. Right now, there are only a few good ways to make money in Gray Zone Warfare, and we’ll talk about them here.

As a very Early Access title, Gray Zone Warfare desperately needs more activities where you can make money (and do almost anything else). However, there are still some strategies you can use to put more dollars in your pocket. One of them relies on PvP, another on PvE, and a third on sheer terror. Or you could just not die like a real chad. I don’t know how that feels.

Money Making Tip 1 for Gray Zone Warfare: Quest, Quest, Quest

In this early stage of Gray Zone Warfare‘s life, completing tasks is by far the best source of cash. Even the early tasks give you more than enough for a solid mid-game kit. Rewards get larger the deeper into the questlines you get, and if you manage to survive enough not to need to regear every time you head out, you can rack up a huge bankroll in a fairly reasonable time.

I highly recommend you play with teammates for the best possible means of keeping as much gear as possible. A buddy or buddies also give you additional sets of eyes and ears to look out for enemy contacts, provide support, and otherwise help keep you alive.

Money Making Tip 2 for Gray Zone Warfare: Save and Use Enemy Gear

Gray Zone Warfare‘s persistent world where you return seamlessly from the action and your base means it’s much easier and more efficient to do loot runs. The process is simple:

  • In PvP, grab all the enemy player loot you can carry and extract it back to base. Once you’re on the chopper, you’re invincible, so it’s a simple matter to get back to camp and put all the weapons and gear you nicked off the enemy PMCs in your stash. Then, when you do die, you have a solid stock of quality weapons that cost you nothing but time and effort to acquire.
  • In PvE, grab as many weapons from AI as you can and use them to farm more AI weapons. For this strategy, you can arm yourself with just a pistol, go into the first town or somewhere like Ban Pa or YBL-1 (if you’re confident), and take out a few AI. Depending on where you are, you’ll come out with some usable, if not the highest-quality gear.

Stocking up on “free” gear is one of the best ways to avoid spending money in Gray Zone Warfare, and in my mind, saving lets you keep making.

Money Making Tip 3 for Gray Zone Warfare: Loot Runs

This tip is an extension of the second bullet above, and it’s just as simple. You go into a low- or mid-tier loot location with nothing but empty backpacks, storage rigs, and a pistol, then fill your pack with as much gear as you can carry. Stick to weapons and attachments, as neither food nor meds sell for much of anything. Each stock AK an introductory town AI drops is at least $100, and that number goes up quite a bit as you venture into more dangerous locations.

In short, you’re not going to get rich doing loot runs the same way you would playing as a Scav in Escape from Tarkov. That might change in the future, but right now in Gray Zone Warfare, looting for cash is a relatively more chilled-out and low-stakes experience than heading to any of the high-traffic zones and hoping you’re the only player around.

Money Making Tip 4 for Gray Zone Warfare: Collect Dropped Gear

One of the best features of Gray Zone Warfare‘s extraction loop is the ability to go back to your body and collect what you had on you when you died. Note that only one previous body can be on the map at a time, so doing a knife run back to your stuff is only worthwhile if you’re sure you can make it there. Swapping servers also despawns your dead body, so be mindful of that.

Remember also that if you were fighting in a contested area like YBL-1, the odds are some or all of your old gear will get snapped up by other players, whether in your faction or not. If you’re really hurting for money, don’t let the risk deter you too much from attempting to reclaim what’s yours, but go in knowing the risk is elevated.

If you run with teammates, you can also have them collect your gear and extract it as soon as they can or hold onto it until you get back. Depending on how far away you are from base, they might need to hold on for five or more minutes, but that’s an entirely different question.
