Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty: How to Steal and Sell Cars

Learn how to unlock the ability to steal and sell cars in Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty in this guide.

One of the new features in the Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty expansion is the ability to steal and sell cars from around Night City and the new Dogtown district. Prior to the expansion, you had to settle for a good but not particularly immersive mod. Once you unlock the questline, the game will randomly generate and mark cars for you to steal. It will then ask you to drive them somewhere in the world to turn in for rewards. It let you sell any car on the street but wasn’t much more than that. Here’s how to steal and sell cars in Cyberpunk 2077.

Push It to the Limit: How to Unlock Vehicle Contracts

To start stealing and selling cars in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, you’ll need to unlock “vehicle contracts” by completing a short quest. As you wander Dogtown, you’ll see a car or motorcycle sitting conspicuously near the road. It’s marked by a steering wheel icon on your minimap. Defeat any enemies nearby, then get in.

You’ll receive a call from Muamar “El Capitan” Reyes. This starts a short quest called Push It To the Limit. The first step is to get the car to the drop-off point. But don’t think it’ll be simple. Shortly after the quest starts, associates of the vehicle’s previous owner will pull up and start attacking you. You can either fight them off using the new vehicle combat mechanics or lose them in traffic. Either way, once you lose your tail (and any police, should they also start chasing), follow the GPS to the drop point where El Capitan awaits.

Get in the car with him when asked and wait for the conversation with the crooked police to finish. Agree to steal cars for Muamar, and the quest will complete. From here on out, you’ll encounter random vehicles that you can steal and sell in Phantom Liberty.

After the quest, cars you can steal and sell will be flagged with the same steering wheel icon. These vehicles can be moving, meaning you’ll need to take out their driver, or they can be parked and surrounded by enemies. I’ve stolen a Militech corporate SUV right out from under its owners’ noses and sniped a motorcyclist off his ride.

After you take control of the mark, you deliver it to a random drop point as before. There will also be a challenge you need to complete, whether that’s shaking off pursuers or reaching your destination within a time limit. Regardless of how you get there, once delivered, you can collect your reward.

In my experience, if you have some free time, it’s always a good idea to steal a car in Cyberpunk 2077. The rewards usually include a skill shard, some quality weapons, crafting materials, and other goodies. If nothing else, they make good fodder for crafting or building up your bank account.

That’s how to steal and sell cars in Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty. The expansion has a ton of content in a very compact package, and we’ll be covering a lot more about it in the coming days. Check out our guides hub for the expansion for more.
