Matt Mercer voices Vecna in Dead by Daylight. In addition to Vecna, he is most known for lending his voice to characters like Minsc in Baldur’s Gate 3, Ganondorf in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, MacCready in Fallout 4, Leon S. Kennedy in Resident Evil: Damnation, and Anarky in Batman: Arkham Origins. Finally, he is extremely popular in the Dungeons and Dragons show Critical Role, making it a natural choice for him to voice Vecna for the new D&D Dead by Daylight crossover.

Vecna’s Abilities in Dead by Daylight Explained

Vecna has two special abilities, Vile Darkness and Recover Artefact. The first is a unique spell system offering four different spells, and the second uses artifacts that allow him to mori Survivors under the right circumstances.

Vile Darkness

To use Vecna’s unique ability, Vile Darkness, you must press and hold the Secondary Power button to open his Spell Selection. Then, you must move the cursor towards one of four available Spells to use it:

  • Fly: Vecna can fly across the environment, ignoring dropped Pallets and Windows.
  • Flight of the Damned: Vecna summons five Flying Entities that can pass through obstacles and harm Survivors.
  • Dispelling Sphere: Vecna casts a moving invisible Sphere that reveals Survivors through Killer Instinct and turns off their Magic Items for 60 seconds.
  • Mage Hand: Vecna summons a Magical Hand that can lift dropped Pallets back upright or block upright ones for 4 seconds.

Each Vile Darkness spell has its own independent cooldowns.

Recover Artefact

Survivors can find two artifacts in Treasure Chests: the Eye of Vecna and the Hand of Vecna. While holding these artifacts, survivors become vulnerable to Vecna recovering his artifact from them when they reach two Hook Stages. When this happens, you can press the Attack button while standing over the downed Survivor to execute them on the spot, performing a Mini-Mori.

Vecna has three perks: Dark Arrogance, Languid Touch, and Weave Attunement. These perks will follow the traditional Tier system, using the Bloodweb tree to unlock them.

Dark Arrogance

Vecna’s vaulting speed is increased but has increased vulnerability to being blinded and stunned:

  • Permanently increases the duration of Blinds by any means and the duration of Pallet Stuns by +25%.
  • Permanently increases Vecna’s Vaulting speed by 16/18/20%.

There is controversy on the PTB regarding Vecna’s hitboxes. Vecna players are reporting that they are being constantly targeted by survivors using flashlights on him, making the Hillbilly’s perk, Lightborn, a necessity.

Languid Touch

When a Survivor scares off a Crow within 36 meters of Vectna’s location, Languid Touch activates:

  • The Survivor suffers from the Exhausted Status Effect for 6/8/10 seconds.

There is a 20-second cool-down for the Languid Touch perk.

Weave Attunement

Whenever a Survivor depletes an item for the first time, they will automatically drop it. In addition:

  • The Auras of these items are revealed Vecna. Plus, the Auras of any Survivors within 8 meters of the item will also be revealed.
  • A survivor will suffer the Oblivious Status Effect for 20/25/30 seconds after picking up one of these items.
