Destiny 2: How to Open the Secret Doors in The Coil

The Coil activity in Destiny 2 Season of the Wish has a few secret doors to find.

The Coil wouldn’t be a D2 activity without a few hidden tidbits. This time, you’ll get Season of the Wish weapons and armor for solving the “puzzle” (though it’s not really a puzzle like some others in Bungie’s shooter). Here’s how to open The Coil’s secret doors in Destiny 2.

How to Open the Secret Doors in The Coil in Destiny 2 Season of the Wish

To open all the secret doors in The Coil, you need to meet specific score thresholds within each traversal stage. Scoring here is a bit different than in other Destiny 2 activities. Scattered about the maps are glowing urns that spew out motes of various colors when broken

  • White: 100 Points.
  • Red: 500 Points.
  • Purple: 2,500 Points.

Each room between major encounters appears to have a different score threshold, but in my experience, it was usually between 7,500 and 10,000 points. Enemies can also drop motes, and there are dozens of urns in each transition room (the ones made of loose rock and not much else).

If you and your team gather every mote in every room, you’ll easily open each secret door. Be careful, though: While there are two chests, one is trapped with insta-death spikes.

I don’t personally recommend playing solo unless you have a well-crafted build, a solid selection of Exotics to choose from, and a lot of patience. You should also be better than me because the later levels can test your skills, and I suffer from Skill Issues disease.

Where to Find the Secret Doors in The Coil

None of the secret doors in The Coil are difficult to find. The best way to do so is to stick to the edges of each transition room and look for out-of-place openings in the walls. If the passage is lit from within, you’ve probably found the door. You can also sometimes see the doors themselves from the main part of the room.

Because The Coil is somewhat procedurally generated, some holes in the walls will lead nowhere, save for a pot or two. These dead ends would lead to secret doors, where another one of them not already in use to contain said door.

Thankfully, there’s not much more to opening the secret doors in The Coil during Destiny 2 Season of the Wish. Just play the activity and thoroughly explore; the rewards will be yours.
