The Best Ways to Beat Diablo 4 Treasure Goblins For Loot Rewards

Before we discuss how to take out Diablo 4 Treasure Goblins, let’s talk about what they are in the first place. For those who are new to the series, Treasure Goblins are little enemy mobs that carry large sacks filled with loot. They also have a unique icon on the minimap. To some extent, they’re similar to Crystal Lizards in the Dark Souls series.

Once you’re close enough to them — or once they’re hit — they’ll start running away, often dropping gold coins. If you manage to defeat them before they disappear via a portal, they’ll drop some amazing items, usually legendaries depending on your level or World Tier.

How to Catch and Defeat Treasure Goblins in Diablo 4

So, how exactly do you beat Diablo 4 Treasure Goblins for their rewards? Well, it comes down to three factors: speed, crowd-control, and damage.

Speed

Most classes in Diablo 4 move at the same pace. Everyone also has a dash move that can be used. However, there are class-specific skills, passives, or boons that further affect movement speed. For instance, Barbarians can Leap, whereas Rogues can scurry around on a whim. As a Necro main, I use a Blood Mist Legendary Aspect that retains the skill’s immunity effect without being slowed down by it. Likewise, if your mount is off-cooldown, you can ride it to catch up to the Treasure Goblins

Crowd Control

One of the most important facets of catching these creatures is being able to crowd-control the Treasure Goblin when you see it. This will temporarily prevent it from running away. Something as simple as trapping it in narrow corridors or pathways works. Moreover, each class has its own specialty that’s useful here:

  • Necromancer — I primarily rely on Cold Skeletal Mages that cast Blizzard via a Legendary Aspect, which can freeze entire packs of mobs.
  • Sorcerers — If you specialize in Cold spells, you can also freeze the target.
  • Barbarians — The game’s premier melee class has abilities that can stun foes.
  • Druids — A simple Tempest spell can slow down hostiles.
  • Rogues — The class itself has several Traps that can be employed.

Damage

Last but not least, chasing after a Diablo 4 Treasure Goblin won’t be enough. You’ll need to make sure that you can actually kill it — quickly. Doing so can be a challenge at higher World Tiers, especially with higher enemy health, resistances, and mob density. Still, this is an opportune time to go all-in with your ultimate abilities, area-of-effect (AoE attacks), and all the DPS you can muster.

With a bit of luck, you should be able to beat every Diablo 4 Treasure Goblin that you encounter. Enjoy your nifty loot rewards. For more tips and tricks, including Stronghold and quest walkthroughs, our Diablo 4 tips hub has you covered.
