There are a number of emote-related quests in Diablo 4, including Keeping the Old Traditions. As an Act 3 side quest, you’ll likely find it while roaming through Sanctuary. Likewise, it’s possible to get stumped by the riddle or not know which emote to use where. With that in mind, here’s how to start and complete the Keeping the Old Traditions quest in Diablo 4, including the riddle solution.
How to Complete The Diablo 4 Keeping the Old Traditions Quest and Riddle Solution
How to Start Keeping the Old Traditions
To start Keeping the Old Traditions, go to the Dry Steppes Untamed Scarps area. The book that gives you this quest is located on the eastern side of the area. I found it was easiest to reach the location by teleporting to Jirandai and then heading northwest up to the quest marker.

Once there, clear out any mobs who may be eyeing you as snack, then read the book to start the quest. The passage is as follows:
“Though timeworn, you endure. Before your colorful kin, I say: Yes, I keep our traditions!”
Keeping the Old Traditions Riddle Solution
The next step is to find the statue mentioned in the text and emote in front of it. The statue is on the path just to the west of your current location. It’s not brightly colored but does appear to be a shrine to the ancestors lit by candles.

Keeping the Old Traditions Emote
Which emote do you need to use to complete Keeping the Old Traditions in Diablo 4? The text gives us the answer. Give the statue a firm Yes. If you don’t have the Yes emote on your emote wheel, add it or check out our guide on how to assign emotes. A chest will pop up on the side of the statue, and the quest will be completed.
Keeping the Old Traditions Quest Rewards
You won’t get too much for completing this quest, simply receiving Renown, XP, and Gold. But that’s not too bad for the work you put into it.
That’s how to complete the Keeping the Old Traditions quest in Diablo 4. This quest falls into a similar category of emote-centered side quests, such as Secret of the Spring and Reject the Mother. If you’re struggling with these or other quests, check out our D4 guides library for assistance.
