Genshin Impact: How to Get the Sailwind Shadow Kaeya Skin for Free

It's time to customize Kaeya. Here's how to unlock his Sailwind Shadow outfit in Genshin Impact.

Genshin Impact has added a new limited-time area in Version 3.8 called Veluriyam Mirage. Beyond the event-exclusive quest line and various minigames, there are limited-time rewards as well, including a new outfit for everyone’s first Cryo character, during the Secret Summer Paradise event. Here’s how to get the Sailwind Shadow Kaeya skin for free in Genshin Impact.

You can get the Kaeya skin for free once you’ve collected 150 Joyeux Vouchers, which are a new unique collectible for this event. You can view your progress by navigating to the Secret Summer Paradise event menu and then clicking on the Collection on Cloud Nine tab. Once you have the necessary vouchers, you can unlock the skin through the Event Menu.

How to Get Joyeux Vouchers for the Kaeya Skin

Technically, Joyeux Vouchers can be found all around the area, and you won’t have to walk very far before coming into contact with one after the other. Joyeux Vouchers have two confirmed sources: Voucher Boxes and Treasure Chests.

Voucher Boxes are flying contraptions that can be found everywhere. Some will be close to the ground, but most will be high in the air, and you’ll need to glide over to reach them. Keep an eye on your mini-map as they’ll appear on there whenever you’re close. Coming into contact with one will grant you four Joyeux Vouchers. It’s an easy, if slightly inefficient, way to get the Kaeya skin.

The second and more abundant option that gives Joyeux Vouchers is chests. You can stand at nearly any point in the Veluriyam Mirage area, and some chests are bound to be nearby. Some of these can be found sitting by themselves, while others will require you to interact with the following to make them appear/unlock them:

  • Gleaming Lamp Puzzles
  • Streaming Projectors
  • Time Trials

I’d also recommend interacting with Hydro Eidolons if you want a faster route to get the Kaeya skin for free. Whether they want to play hide-and-seek, need saving from enemies, or just want you to follow them, they’re a great way to find more treasure chests and more Joyeux Vouchers.

Aside from a few that are tied to side quests, each chest you find will offer you one Joyeux Voucher in addition to its other contents. That means that a Common Chest and a Luxurious Chest will provide you with the same amount of vouchers.

Even though they’re everywhere, searching for them can turn into a grind, meaning it will take longer to get the Kaeya skin for free. The colorful Voucher Boxes don’t always stand out well against the already colorful environment, and the rate of one voucher per chest isn’t great when our goal is 150. Collecting the Fascinating Phenocrysts currency during the Secret Summer Paradise event to unlock Layla doesn’t take nearly as long.

There are some ways to speed up the process, though. Here’s what I recommend to find them quickly and efficiently.

  • Use the Teyvat Interactive Map: The official interactive map on HoYoLAB has been updated with the new area. Even better is that it can be filtered to display the locations of the Joyeux Voucher Boxes. Feel free to tinker with it further to find the locations of each chest and time trial in the area as well. Following this map will take out most of the guesswork when trying to find the vouchers.
  • Use the Flowing Joyspar Gadget: Once you’ve found 90 Joyeux Vouchers, you’ll be able to redeem the Flowing Joyspar gadget. Using this will display any nearby treasure chests or Voucher Boxes on your mini-map, which is perfect for narrowing down their precise locations. Along with the interactive map, you’ll be able to find the necessary 60 additional vouchers quicker than you think.

How to Get the Sailwind Shadow Kaeya Skin After Version 3.8 Ends

The good news is that if you missed the Secret Summer Paradise event, which ends on August 16, 2023, you can still unlock the Sailwind Shadow Kaeya skin. The bad news is that it will be joining the Character Outfits section in the shop afterward for a cost of 1,680 Genesis Crystals. This is the purchasable currency in Genshin Impact, so your only option at that point would be to fork over some real money to dress up Kaeya as a fashionable master thief.

That’s how to get the Sailwind Shadow Kaeya skin for free in Genshin Impact. It’s certainly a bit of a timesink, but hopefully, the above tips will help you find the Joyeux Vouchers fast and to unlock it. If you need to be caught up on what’s likely coming up in version 4.0, we’ve covered the sneak peek of the Fontaine region.
