How to Decorate Your Ship After Starfield Update

Personalize your ship how you like!

Thanks to the massive update, it’s easier than ever to build a good ship in Starfield. Hab modules usually pre-determine your ship’s interior, but now you can personalize it freely by setting down different furniture and decor. Here’s how to start decorating.

How to Customize Ship Interiors in Starfield

If you’re big on decorating like I am, you’ll love this new opportunity to personalize your ship fully. You can decorate and customize your house with furniture and decor, and now you can do the same for your ship (which is only right, especially for those spacers who spend most of their time in their ships).

Before you do a full remodel of your ship, you’ll want to rearrange its structure to make room for all the decorations and items. The new mechanic also comes with empty hab modules, which is exactly what you’ll want to place down.

How to Place Empty Hab Modules On Your Ship

You can place empty hab modules in shipbuilding mode. Just speak to any Ship Services Technician at any of the planet’s spaceports and choose the option to modify or view your ship.

Within the shipbuilding mode, open the Add menu and switch tabs to the Hab category. You’ll find all the modules you usually attach to your ship to make up the various rooms. There are a few options of ship models that have empty hab options. To find them, you’ll have to switch through the variants of the piece you want to place (all the empty ones will be toward the end after the pre-filled habs). Here are some of the available hab variants you can use in Starfield:

  • Armory Empty.
  • All-in-One Berth Empty.
  • Captain’s Quarters Empty.
  • Computer Core Empty.
  • Control Station Empty.
  • Infirmary Empty.
  • Living Quarters Empty.
  • Science Lab Empty.
  • Workshop Empty.

Once you have an empty hab inside your ship, head out to your ship and board it. Then, open your Hand Scanner by pressing LB/L1 or F and then select the Decorate option shown at the bottom. From here you’ll have all the options you would in your house decorating. You can place down Furniture, Decorations, Displays, and even Misc. items as long as you have the materials for them.

You can place them anywhere on your ship, even in other areas besides the empty hab (like the cockpit or storage rooms). That way, you can make it look exactly how you want. Of course, you’ll have the most room in habs that aren’t already filled. Try it out for yourself and get creative!
