How to Get More Tar in Enshrouded

Tar is used to seal wood for building in Enshrouded. Here's how to get more of it.

Tar is a versatile resource used in spell work and building in Embervale. There are several ways to get it, but neither are obvious. Don’t be like me a look high and low. You already have access to it. Here’s how to get more Tar in Enshrouded.

How to Make Tar Faster in Enshrouded

The easiest way to get large amounts of Tar fast is to use the Charcoal Kiln. When you first access the Kiln, the Charcoal recipe is selected automatically. However, you can change it in the bottom right side of the menu. Select Tar, which uses the same resources, to start producing it. I typically load the Kiln with dozens of logs and Dirt lumps to keep it going longer. x30 Logs and x6 Dirt produce x20 every six minutes.

The other way to make Tar is to burn food while cooking it over a Campfire. Any of the raw vegetables, mushrooms, or meat you have on hand works. I use meat with the lowest Constitution boost, only keeping the highest Constitution meat for myself.

Overcook food to make food into Tar. After the ready sound notification and visual change, let the fire continue to cook the food until it turns into Tar. You can’t remove food from a fire, and replace it to make Tar. You must do it in a single try at this point in Early Access. I prefer this method of making Tar because I can use up unwanted items in my inventory.

You can occasionally get Tar when picking up dead Campfires, though its drop rate is very low. These can be found in abandoned camps or ruined villages. Looting them gives you a stack of a Campfire you can place in the wild, and potentially a couple units of Tar.

How to Use Tar in Enshrouded

Tar has two main uses in Enshrouded. It’s used as building blocks and as Fireball Staff Charges. I use Tar exclusively for building, since I’m not a Mage and have opted for the bow as my ranged weapon. The two block types that have it as a requirement are the Tarred Shingle Roof Block and the Tarred Wood Block.

When it comes to the wielding a Staff, Fireball is a nice AoE Fire attack that works well against clumped enemies such as Scavengers. It’s also effective against poisonous plants since they can’t move out of the spell’s area.
