Winning Harvest or Animal Festivals in Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns is essential to progressing beyond your Dad’s last set of Farm Tips. It also brands your winning crop or animal so that they or their byproducts sell for more through the Shipping Box. There’s no reason not to do your best every season and compete in each Harvest Festival and Animal Festival that crosses your calendar.
Your chances of winning won’t look good if you don’t properly take care of your crops and livestock, however. For tips on managing your farm’s shipping quality, check out our Beginner’s Guide and Daily Routine Guide. Just know that they won’t get you far if you don’t know what the judges are looking for.
Preparing for the Animal and Harvest Festivals
On the 2nd day of every season, MC will drop by your house to clue you in on the contest themes for the season. While Beginner contests don’t have a theme, all other experience levels have two or more — so be sure to note the themes and get right to work on reaching your goal.
Raising Winning Crops in Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns
Crops are relatively simple. Fertilizer directly relates to a specific stat like color or size. Alternate which fertilizer you use each day so you get a healthy balance for the festival.
Note that any crops that can be watered gain a bit of juiciness every time you water them, but it’s not quite as fast as fertilizer. In the case that you have juiciness in the theme, maybe dedicate only 3 to 5 days of the season to a juiciness fertilizer to catch it up with the other stats. Make sure you’re using the Seed Maker to replant your crops whenever needed. You don’t want to miss a day of fertilizer.
Note that you’ll also get bonus points for submitting crops that are in season. Expect even more points should you harvest a giant crop or a golden crop. Feel free to gamble by taking a few days to increase the size of your crops, even if it’s not the theme.
On the 30th day of the season, pick the crop with the highest star quality and highest rating in the themed stats to enter with the MC. Make sure you save right before the Harvest Festival, especially if you have a few options you think might do well.
Raising Winning Animals in Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns
Animals are slightly different from crops, but overall the idea is the same. If you’ve been keeping up with loving on your livestock every day, affection shouldn’t be an issue at this point — so feel free to ignore it if you’ve had the animals you want to enter for a while.
Byproduct level is a somewhat confusing stat, for animals. Don’t let yourself get it mixed up with the star quality, since that is entirely affected by affection. Rather, Byproduct Level is the chance for getting plus quality byproduct.
For pretty much everything other than affection, you’ll need to buy and feed the respective stat-increasing treats to your animals every day. Some stats can be raised with certain types of feed, however. For example, Spicy Feed helps with your animal’s coat.
Animals also get bonus points the bigger your animal is. If you have the extra time to pump stats, try out increasing its size. The extra bonus points may be just what you need to bump from 2nd place to 1st.
Come the 13th day of the season, pick the animal with the most affection and best stats in the themed areas to enter into the Animal Festival at the MC. Make sure you save your game before doing so, especially if you have many animals you think could win.
That’s everything a budding farmer needs to know to raise winning crops and animals in Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns. Check out our Fashion and Tailoring Guide and Cooking Exhibition Guide if you’re looking to get into those contests, too!
