With most games being multi-platform these days, we’re coming to expect multiplayer titles to have crossplay. Is Ark: Survival Ascended crossplay? And if so, can you play cross-platform right now?
Will Ark: Survival Ascended be Crossplay?
You’ll be happy to hear that Studio Wildcard announced Ark: Survival Ascended as crossplay compatible. I think this was honestly expected, as limiting the community to one platform isn’t a great idea for the performance of an online co-op survival game. There’s one caveat, though.
The game is currently in early access on PC, but the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are delayed for some time at the end of November and November 14, respectively. With this in mind, they are also working on cross-platform fixes relating to both co-op and shared saves. So, while crossplay will be implemented, we’ll have to wait until it’s actually on other platforms to use it.
The Xbox Series X version will release with crossplay functionality with PC, according to the developers. “The Xbox version will be up-to-spec with the latest PC functionality as of Nov 14, and will launch directly into crossplay with the PC version (along with new servers, including Xbox-only servers),” the studio said.
Another noteworthy and unfortunate piece of news is that ASA won’t be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One thanks to the Unreal Engine 5 upgrade. While this does slightly limit the player base, it’s nowhere near as impactful as not having crossplay at all.
Ark: Survival Ascended on Consoles
Studio Wildcard has also announced that it’s working on stabilizing some issues with crossplay for a smooth console launch. Once the game is released in November on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, a fresh set of official servers will also be available with progression boosts so that players can catch up to the PC community.
