Where to Get Large Wyvern Gem in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne

Not only do a ton of the base game monster Alpha+ and Beta+ armors require Large Wyvern Gem to forge, but a very large swath of Master Rank weapons need this material, as well. Each piece you can forge only requires one gem (thank goodness), but you’ll probably need more than one just to get everything made that you want.

Which Monsters Grant Large Wyvern Gems in Iceborne?

Large Wyvern Gems can be gotten by carves, hunt rewards, and capture rewards from a certain set of monsters, but the easiest way to get them is through investigation clears. I can confirm that all of the monsters on the following list have a chance of giving you a Large Wyvern Gem under any hunt clearing circumstances.

  • Banbaro
  • Barioth
  • Barroth
  • Beotodus
  • Diablos
  • Black Diablos
  • Jyuratodus
  • Lavasioth
  • Paolumu
  • Nightshade Paolumu
  • Radobaan
  • Tobi-Kadachi
  • Viper Tobi-Kadachi

All of the above monsters have a chance of giving you this material in the above listed circumstances, but there’s one best way to get them. I suggest going through investigations. Gold-tier rewards for investigations on all of the above listed monsters have a 16% ~ 20% chance of paying out a Large Wyvern Gem.

Barioth, Diablos, and Black Diablos all have an 18% chance to grant a Large Wyvern Gem on gold investigation clear. Lavasioth is your best bet, with the large monster having a 20% chance of granting this material if you get gold on an investigation and it being a less stressful fight.

How to Get Gold Rewards in an Investigation in MHW

All you have to do to get gold-tier rewards in an investigation is clear the hunt quickly. The better geared you are and the better you are at the game, the higher chance you’ll be able to clear an investigation with a gold-tier reward. You’ll want to aim for gold investigation clears anytime you hop into one, just for a chance of the extra rewards.

That’s it for how to get Large Wyvern gem in MHW Iceborne. It’s but one of many materials you’ll need to go out of your way for to gear up, but making sure to try to clear investigations quickly can get you a couple without even trying.
