There are some armor and weapons that require Novacrystal to forge. There are also some valuable Charms that most hunters making their way through High Rank for the first time would be happy to have. In this guide, I’ll go over how to get Novacrystal in MHW.
Where to Get Novacrystal in Monster Hunter World
First off, you’ll need to look at High Rank (HR) maps to find Novacrystal. Neither sub-HR maps nor Master Rank (MR) maps have a chance to grant any Novacrystal on their nodes, which is about normal for any material in Monster Hunter World. Most are relegated only to their relevant hunter tier without crossovers.
Where to Mine Novacrystal
Novacrystal can be found by mining ore nodes in most of the base game’s areas, but to break it down into specific maps, focus your efforts on the following:
- HR Ancient Forest
- HR Wildspire Waste
- HR Coral Highlands
- HR Rotten Vale
So, no volcano-diving in Elder’s Recess for you! But that doesn’t make getting this material any easier. It can be mined on any of the four listed maps, but the percentage chance of actually getting Novacrystal on any single mining attempt is very low. It’s low enough that getting it on any node you hit in general is almost a miracle.
Can You Only Get Novacrystal From Red Nodes?
Through the years, a lot of players have claimed you can only get Novacrystal from red mining nodes, as red nodes are higher tier than blue nodes. However, this is not the case. Novacrystal can be mined from red and blue nodes alike. And, the chances of finding one across all four of the maps is identical. You can choose your favorite and just go from one node to the next in hopes of mining one of these up. You’ll notice in the above screenshot that I got one from a blue node.
If you’re not familiar with getting around the Ancient Forest in Monster Hunter World, I don’t recommend trying to do so there unless you have a mining route in mind already and know how to get around quickly. Regardless of the map, your best bet is just to head to it via expedition and run around hitting nodes.
How to Farm Novacrystal via Hunting
If you don’t want to run around trying to get Novacrystal off mining nodes, you do have one other option: killing Kirin. More specifically, joining or hosting Investigations to kill Kirin in hopes of getting a Silver or Gold-tier reward.
You have a 22% chance of being rewarded two Novacrystals if you clear a Kirin Investigation with Gold, and an 18% chance of one Novacrystal if you clear with Silver. The faster you finish the investigation, the better rewards you’ll get. So you’ll have to take Kirin down fairly quickly at that chance of two.
