Best Minecraft Horror Mods

Transform your Minecraft world into a horror survival game!

Halloween is right around the corner, and there’s no better way to celebrate in Minecraft than by playing some spooky mods! We’ve scoured the internet for the top 10 best Minecraft horror mods that will make your Minecraft world spookier than a haunted house.

10 Best Minecraft Horror Mods 2026

Many of these mods include blood and gore, flashing lights and imagery, and darker themes. If you have trouble with any of those things, read through each mod’s page before downloading or watching its trailers.

The Broken Script 2.0

  • Creator: Writers of the Script organization
  • Download Link: Modrinth

The beauty of The Broken Script 2.0 is how it combines scary entities with seemingly game-breaking bugs to create a horror experience that keeps you on your toes. While you are doing your best to gather materials and survive, an unknown entity can enter your world and talk to you through in-game chat. The same entity can kick you out of the world momentarily or even cause error messages to pop up when you try to go to sleep. At the same time, parts of your world may bug or disappear, scary noises may occur suddenly, and words on your screen could change to something new. It’s a well-rounded horror mod that could strike fear in the hearts of even the most seasoned Minecraft players.

The Obsessed

If you have phobias of spiders or being stalked, this mod will make you shake in your boots. Your world will start like any normal world: you’ll mine, gather materials, and peacefully build a base. However, that will change once the Obsessed first discovers you. This spider-like entity will begin hovering around you, appearing outside, in your home, and even watching you sleep. It will also leave you gifts when it is in a positive mood. Depending on your actions toward it, its mood will stay positive or turn sour, causing it to become hostile and potentially even abduct you. Your time spent in this mod will be filled with the fear of what is watching, never knowing when it may act.

Liminality: The Backrooms — Level Zero

  • Creator: Politas180
  • Download Link: Modrinth

The Level Zero update for Liminality: The Backrooms drops players into the Backrooms’ most well-known level. One of the interesting parts of this mod is that players won’t spawn directly into this level. Instead, entering Level 0 requires either clipping into it or using a command to force a clip. Once in the Backrooms, players will need to complete the planned chapters to return back to the Overworld. It’s a great mod for players who want to play normal Minecraft with a touch of horror. It would also be very fun as part of a larger horror modpack, as players could accidentally enter the Backrooms while trying to avoid other monsters.

Mita Madness

  • Creator: MRFGX STUDIO
  • Download Link: Modrinth

Mita Madness challenges players to survive while avoiding the Mita Dweller and keeping their health, hunger, fear, and sanity in check. Doing so will be even harder than it sounds, with everything that may happen to your player. Torches placed to light your way may be suddenly snuffed out, strange whispers fill your ears, and jump scares may startle you. Each event that occurs lowers your sanity and increases your fear, causing even more to start. This will push you into a quick downward spiral into paranoia and fear, making it easier for the Mita Dweller to prey upon you.

Box of Horrors

This mod is ideal for players who love horror movies, horror games, and monster and cryptid lore. Essentially, it gives players access to a wide variety of new mobs based on horror media. This includes horror movie villains, like Ghostface and Freddy Krueger, cryptids, like Mothman and the Four Horsemen, and video game monsters like Ao Oni and Pyramid Head.

Rather than adding scary entities to Minecraft, the Horror Element Mod focuses on adding graphic structures, items, and gore to your world. Most of these elements feature plenty of blood and gore, making them scary in their own right. However, they shine most when added into a world that also has mods that add in scary entities and biomes.

Distorted Rex

The Distorted Rex from Jurassic World Rebirth makes its debut in Minecraft through this modpack. I find dinosaur-focused horror games scary, but I wasn’t prepared for how frightening the Distorted Rex would actually be. Its height allows it to tower over players, while its dark coloring lets it blend into shadows at night. Less cautious players could easily be ambushed and eaten by the Distorted Rex without a chance to fight back. Of all the horror mods on our list, this is the one I’d most recommend to play with shaders.

The Cursed Smile

There is something absolutely terrifying about seeing a lone face staring at you from the darkness. YouTuber sfbexotic capitalizes on that fear through the Cursed Smile mod, which adds the Smiler into Minecraft. Wherever there is darkness, peering into it might leave you staring into the bright white eyes and smile of the Smiler.

Limbo – Cosmic Horror Dimension

  • Creator: MoisturePack
  • Download Link: Modrinth

This Minecraft horror mod adds a new dimension with a unique set of biomes, structures, and more. Players start in a typical Minecraft world and can enter the eerie Limbo dimension by using a Limbo Key. However, entering Limbo will use up this key and set the player’s spawn point within Limbo. If you’re not careful, you could wind up wandering through Limbo for a long time while searching for a new Limbo Key to return home.

The Watcher

In this mod, players will be haunted by things that are out of place. A shadowy figure out of the corner of your eye, an animal that stares at you just a little too long, doors or torches that aren’t the way you left them. The scariest part about the mod is that nothing is ever openly different or hostile against you. You’ll end up questioning everything around you with no way of fighting against the way the world changes when you aren’t looking.

That sums up our list of the top 10 horror mods for Minecraft players! If you’re looking to dress up your character for the spooky season, check out our Best Minecraft skins guide. You’ll also find other helpful Minecraft tutorials in our Minecraft guides hub.
