Digging at the Dig Site in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is one of multiple activities you can participate in outside of farming. The Dig Site contains stone tablets that tell you pieces of the Forgotten Valley’s history, but you’re limited to one each year for a total of five. Additionally, the Dig Site is great for gathering items to sell to Van or to give the villagers as gifts to increase affection.

How to Unlock and Use the Dig Site
- The Dig Site is found across the river from your farm and near the waterfall to the north where you’ll find Carter and Flora along with their tends and scaffolding.
- The Dig Site expands every year.
- The site is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
- You can’t go digging on Days 3 and 8 of each season.
- Digging doesn’t use stamina.
When you enter the Dig Site by interacting with the stairs going down, you can talk to Carter to receive a shovel and start working. The spots that you can dig have cracked ground and will be highlighted when you target them, but Flora and Carter moving around the Dig Site can prevent you from digging in particular spots depending on where they are.
When you highlight a spot to dig, you’ll have to use the Dig option multiple times before you unearth any items, and you can continue to dig in the same spot after to get more items. I had generally good luck with only needing to dig a handful of times to get an item, but there were spots where I felt like I dug a dozen times before I got anything.
You can leave anytime you want by interacting with the stairs, or you’ll be forced to leave at 5 p.m. on the dot. Carter will examine what you found, and if you don’t have a Stone Table, he’ll let you leave.

What to Do with Dig Site Items in SoS: AWL
You might find your inventory filling up with artifacts as you start working at the Dig Site, and you have a few options for what to do with the items you unearth. This doesn’t include Stone Tablets, which are taken by Carter to be examined. You can dig up one a year for the first five years, at which point you’ll have all the tablets.
