There are a lot of ways to have a baby in The Sims 4, and with the latest Growing Together expansion there’s the brand new Science Baby option. You may want to have your Sims have a bit more flavor in their bloodlines, though. It’s possible to have Alien, Werewolf, Vampire, and other unique babies provided you take the right steps and have the right expansions installed. In this guide we’re going to go into every way to have a baby in The Sims 4.

The Sims 4: Every Way to Have a Baby

Default Try for a Baby Option

Since The Sims 2, the default option for adding a baby to a Sims family has been the Try For Baby interaction. If you have two Sims with a high enough relationship on the same lot, then you can use one to select the Try For Baby option through the pie wheel by clicking on the desired partner.

You can increase the odds of having multiples without cheats by purchasing the Fertile Reward with Aspiration Points.

Adoption

Another option that has been part of The Sims since its early days is adoption. Adoption is one of the services available on your Sim’s phone or computer. You can find it under “Household” and then “Hire a Service” for the phone, but for the computer an “Adopt” option will come up from choosing “Household,” letting you skip a step compared to the phone.

Science Baby

This is the newest way to have a baby in The Sims 4. You can choose one or two parents for the baby, and create it by going into “Home” on your Sim’s phone and selecting one of the two “Have a Science Baby” options depending on how many Sims you want involved in the process.

Compared to a normal pregnancy, Science Babies will arrive a few hours after the choice is made, forgoing the need for a pregnancy.

You can see the options for both Science Babies and Adoption in the image below.

Alien Pregnancy

When a male Sim is abducted by Aliens, there’s a 25% chance he’ll return pregnant. While the moodlets that denote a pregnancy are different than for a female Sim, the stages of the pregnancy are overall the same.

For an Alien abduction, the baby will be fully Alien and not a hybrid. When the baby is born, you have the option to send it back to the Homeworld to be raised, which will effectively sever all relations with the baby.

Occult Pregnancies

Sims 4 now has quite a few supernatural creatures that are also capable of having babies, such as Werewolves and Vampires. Having a baby with an Occult Sim isn’t too different from having a baby with a human Sim. This section covers these three types of Occult babies:

  • Vampire babies
  • Werewolf babies
  • Mermaid babies

With one human and one Occult parent, the child has a 50% chance of being an Occult Sim. Like with humans, you just need to have a high enough intimacy with the Occult Sim and choose to Try For Baby.

For Vampires, trying for a baby on a lot with the Dark Ley-Line trait will increase the likelihood that the baby is a Vampire. Trying for a baby while in Bat Form will also pass the form onto the baby as a result.

Werewolves have a different belly shape for pregnancy, and a baby can’t be born while in Wolf Form. If the baby is a Werewolf, their traits will be visible as a Toddler.

Mermaid babies won’t show their powers until they reach the Teenager life stage, but Mermaids can turn into a human by eating Mermadic Kelp.

Mods and cheats for The Sims 4 can add even more options for having babies, but players who want to only use content available from EA need to rely a bit on luck, particularly when it comes to having Occult babies. For players who want to use mods, we have a list of the Best Infant CC Mods on our Sims 4 guide hub along with content like a Midlife Crisis guide.
