What Are the Top 10 Best Minecraft Dragon Mods in February 2024?

I’ve gathered a vast collection here of both mods that add various dragons and draconic mounts, as well as those that add dragon-themed tools and weapons. You’ll find some of the greats here, like Ice and Fire Dragons or Dragon Survival, but also some underdogs that deserve more spotlight. Here’s a brief overview before we dive in:

Let’s start with my favorite.

Ice and Fire: Dragons

Ice and Fire: Dragons is the all-time community favorite mod pack by Raptorfarian and Alexthe666 that adds tons of immersive fantasy species, mainly dragons. You can encounter fire-breathing and frost-breathing subtypes, but recently, Lightning Dragons have been added as well.

This mod also adds Death Worms, Hippogryphs, Gorgons, Pixies, Cyclopes, Sirens, and many more creatures for you to discover and interact with. You can tame and ride dragons with this mod and even craft tools and weapons from their bones to become the ultimate dragon tamer and warrior.

Dragon Survival

If Ice and Fire: Dragons mod is all about adding dragon creatures to be tamed or fought, Dragon Survival is all about becoming the dragon. This mod by BlackAuresArt massively revamps your entire gameplay experience so that you can transform and become a forest, sea, or cave dragon. You can fly around the world, fight new monsters, and explore dungeons, all in the guise of a mythical beast.

Mechanically speaking, there are also 36 dragon-themed skills in Dragon Survival to unlock across a specialized progression system centered around increasing the power of your dragon form. I highly recommend you check this mod out if you like gameplay revamps.

Dragon Mounts: Legacy

Back to a traditional dragon mod, we have Dragon Mounts: Legacy, which aims to allow the player to breed dragon eggs and ride them into battle or exploration. The main attraction of Dragon Mounts: Legacy is that it offers a highly customizable dragon pet system where you can tweak their traits, attributes, behaviors, etc.

Best of all, you don’t need to learn to code everything, as the entire customization system is streamlined for easy access via Minecraft’s Datapack. I love this mod and would suggest it for players who are looking for a dragon-tamer experience rather than fighting dragons.

Savage Ender Dragon

Have you ever felt like the Ender Dragon boss fight was too easy, especially with friends? The Savage Ender Dragon mod ramps up the difficulty of the fight by making it scale with the player amount and also with world and config difficulty.

This means that the boss will deal more damage, have more HP, and employ additional mechanics and special moves depending on how many players you fight him with. Overall, it’s a neat gameplay fix that makes the fight more challenging and fun.

Useless Reptile

The Useless Reptile mod adds more dragons to your world that you can both fight against and tame for a dragon pet and mount. They’re very immersive and inspired by How to Train Your Dragon, with names like the Swamp Wyvern, Moleclaw, and River Pikehorn.

Each one has its own set of abilities and interactions. For example, I found out that you can right-click on the Swamp Wyvern with an empty bottle to get acid from their maw. Each one is found in its own biome, like swamps, caves, and rivers respectively. While it doesn’t offer as much content as Ice and Fire, this dragon mod offers the same level of quality.

More Dragon Eggs

Another superb dragon-themed gameplay fix is the More Dragon Eggs mod. Essentially, the mod aims to encourage fighting dragons by adding a new dragon egg each time the boss is killed. Normally, this only happens the first time. It’s a neat fix that I recommend everyone should have.

Ice and Fire: Dragon Finder and Dragonseeker

The Dragon Finder by RGN_Studios and Dragonseeker Syrikalis are two separate mods that add a similar piece of dragon-hunting gear to your game. These tools work together with the Ice and Fire: Dragons mod and allow you to locate dragons more easily. The first time I installed the Ice and Fire: Dragons mod, I sometimes had trouble actually finding dragons.

The Dragon Finder and Dragonseeker mods solve those issues with a single upgradeable piece of gear that automatically locates dragons. I would just pick one out of the two and install it. You don’t need both.

Tax’ Dragon Legend

Have you ever wanted to turn the Ender Dragon into a full suit of armor or a weapon set? The Tax’ Dragon Legend mod adds various dragon-themed late-game pieces that can be crafted from Dragon Scale. Besides the full armor suit, there’s also the Dragon Sword, Pickaxe, Greataxe, and my favorite is the Dragon Shield. You can even make an Ender Dragon painting.

Isle of Berk

We mentioned How to Train Your Dragon earlier briefly, but now it’s time for the main course with the Isle of Berk, which adds numerous dragon species from the movies. There’s also a spell-learning mechanic in this mod, and spells are cast using blood, which is an awesome idea. The pack was removed in the past, but it’s back with fan-made iterations like Isle of Berk DragonCraft by Poyraz_PKG or HTTYD by AliceTheKitsune. There are numerous dragon species to discover and tame, so watch out for those spells.

Draconic Evolution

The Draconic Evolution mod is all about dragon-themed modular gear like the Wyvern Chest Piece module, which boosts numerous stats like jumping, shields, and food storage. It’s a mod with a lot of depth, and there are many tutorials that can be found on YouTube to learn how every draconic gear piece works. I would say this is more for those who like to tinker around with dragon-themed equipment rather than actually fighting or riding dragons, but it’s still an immersive mod.

That concludes my list of the top 10 best Minecraft dragon mods in February 2024. For more Minecraft lists and guides, check out the best item mods or how to fix MC mods not downloading.
