What Happened to Plunder in Call of Duty: Warzone?

Plunder keeps disappearing and re-appearing in Call of Duty: Warzone. Here's why.

Plunder, one of the original game modes available at launch for Call of Duty: Warzone, has once again disappeared, and fans are wondering where it’s gone, at least they were until it returned with the official launch of Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War Season 3.

Plunder’s return is welcomed by all fans, though its disappearance in the first place was not at all uncommon. Activision have removed Plunder from the Warzone playlist before only to bring it back, largely due to frustration from fans who missed the popular game mode.

Why Was Plunder Removed in Warzone?

Activision have removed Plunder in the past to make room for different game modes and certain events like free multiplayer weekends for players. Plunder has also taken on other iterations like Blood Money, such as the case last year with Season 5 of Call of Duty: Warzone. It was eventually brought back in Season 6, much to the delight of fans.

With that in mind, it’s quite likely that Activision removed Plunder to prepare for the Season 3 launch event taking place between April 21-23, 2021.

The influx of players alongside Part 1 of the event, nuking Verdansk, caused servers to get overwhelmed. Whether you were playing Warzone or not, players experienced consistent issues with being able to connect to the Warzone servers and continued to face issues throughout the rest of the day.

Servers have been up and running since earlier today (April 22), though when Part 2 of the event hit at 3 p.m. EST, Call of Duty did once again begin experiencing server issues.

Though Activision continues to try and keep the gameplay of Call of Duty: Warzone fresh for players with new game modes and balances, Plunder is a specific mode that has been a mainstay.

It’s been praised both by critics and fans across the industry, even called the best part of Warzone by some. It’s not a battle royale game mode, but it utilizes Verdansk’s size to its advantage. With multiple cash deposit hot spots and the whole of Verdansk available to you for the entire match, it opens an entirely new avenue of play with Warzone.
