Best Shield Fuse Combos in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

TotK Best Shield Fuse Combo 1: Talus Heart

Are you tired of constantly parrying enemy projectiles? Fuse your shield with the Talus Heart, which allows your shield to reflect projectiles back at your enemies. You can find Talus enemies almost anywhere in Hyrule, both on surface and in the Depths. But here are some of the easiest ones to get early on:

  • Windvane Meadow (-0109, -0802, 0036)
  • Gleeok Bridge (-1364, -0789, 0011)
  • Batrea Lake (0770, -1223, 0025)

TotK Best Shield Fuse Combo 2: Zonai Mirror

Zonai Mirrors are extremely useful items in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Once you fuse them to a shield, you’ll get a number of extra benefits! I was especially impressed with its ability to reflect moonlight, and almost instantly killing all the undead enemies it touched.

On top of that, it makes your shield take less damage, and thus harder to break, increasing its durability. You can obtain Zonai Mirrors from the device dispensers at the following locations:

  • Rakashog Shrine Device Dispenser, Gerudo Highlands Sky (-1777, -2027, 1148)
  • Ganos Shrine Device Dispenser, Tabantha Frontier Sky (-3457, 0400, 1695)
  • Mayanas Shrine Device Dispenser, Lanayru Sea Sky (4670, -1024, 1789)

TotK Best Shield Fuse Combo 3: Zonai Cannon

Did you know that you could turn your shield into one of the strongest weapons in the game? Well, then simply fuse it with the Zonai Cannon for some incredible air strikes. You can launch yourself into the air using Zonai Wings, and hurl cannon balls from above.

Similar to other Zonai devices, you can get Zonai Cannons from the following device dispensers:

  • Kumamayn Shrine Device Dispenser, East Necluda Sky (2851, -2951, 1212)
  • Josiu Shrine Device Dispenser, West Necluda Sky (1785, -110, 0918)
  • Natak Shrine Device Dispenser, Akkala Highlands Sky (3748, 1538, 1157)

TotK Best Shield Fuse Combo 4: Zonai Wing Device

On its own, the Zonai Wing Device is quite useful for flying, but once you fuse it with the shield, you can do something incredible. First, it’ll give you a much higher jump when shield-surfing. Second, you’ll be able to pull out a bow and use Focus ability at the same time while shield-surfing. This combo will result in extremely precise and painful shots for your enemies.

Zonai Wings can be obtained from a vast number of Zonai Dispensers, but here are a few that you can get early on:

  • Jirutagumac Shrine Device Dispenser, Lanayru Great Spring Sky (2913, 0510, 0951)
  • Gutanbac Shrine Device Dispenser, Great Sky Island (0073, -1265, 1579)
  • Josiu Shrine Device Dispenser, West Necluda Sky (1785, -110, 0918)

TotK Best Shield Fuse Combo 5: Star Fragments

Are you tired of constantly using Lightroots inside dark caves? Then, fuse your shield with a Star Fragment, and gain an infinite light source at all times and anywhere you go. Typically, you’d get the Star Fragments from the Shooting Stars, but those happen rarely and a bit too randomly. If you don’t want to wait, then I’ve listed a few treasure chests that have Star Fragments ready to be picked up for free:

  • Lightcast Island (-3633, 1050, 1770)
  • Soka Point (3795, -3616, 0000)
  • Mount Floria (1889, -2684, 0112)

TotK Best Shield Fuse Combo 6: Gems

There are several ways how players can protect Link from getting too cold or too hot in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Usually, you’d have to equip either a cold-resistant armor or drink a heat-resistant potion. But actually, you could simply fuse your shield with specific gems, such as Ruby that protects you from cold, or Sapphire that protects you from heat.

You can mine gems inside various caves all over Hyrule, or simply find them inside treasure chests at the Thyphlo Ruins:

  • Rubies chest: 0248, 3121, 0169
  • Sapphires chest: 0364, 3054, 0170

TotK Best Shield Fuse Combo 7: Stone Slabs

As you see, a shield can be turned into a lot of fancy things. But nothing can beat a simple shield with high durability and strong protection against elemental damage, such as fire and ice, or physical melee attacks. If you want to get a really sturdy shield, then fuse it with a Stone Slab. It’ll make your shield much larger in size, and super effective against such enemies like Lynels that use fire damage.

These Stone Slabs can be found all over the map and inside shrines, but the two easiest locations are:

TotK Best Shield Fuse Combo 8: Zonai Homing Cart

Most Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom players fuse their shields with ordinary minecarts to shield-surf. But this method isn’t particularly effective. Alternatively, you can improve this concept by fusing your shield with the Zonai Homing Cart, which allows you to shield-surf virtually non-stop by holding the “A” button. This would actually be the most preferable option for traversing the Gloom areas.

As is the case with many Zonai items, you can obtain the Zonai Homing Cart from one of the following device dispensers:

  • Mayam Shrine Device Dispenser, Great Hyrule Forest Sky (0436, 2821, 1820)
  • Yansamin Shrine Device Dispenser, East Necluda Sky (2326, -1726, 1485)
  • Natak Shrine Device Dispenser, Akkala Highlands Sky (3748, 1538, 1157)

TotK Best Shield Fuse Combo 9: Light Dragon’s Scale

If you find yourself needing to heal often then I highly recommend fusing your shield with the Light Dragon’s Scale. It emits a warm light around Link, which constantly heals him for a little bit.

The best spot to find and defeat the Light Dragon is the south of the Great Sky Island at coordinates 0426, – 1755, 2337. Just wait before it completes its normal loop, and then you can attack.

TotK Best Shield Fuse Combo 10: Weapons

Finally, everyone should also know that shields have hidden ATK values that serve as damage boosters when fused with normal weapons. I’d recommend fusing the shield with the spear, as it’s the most convenient for holding in your hands, when both attacking and defending yourself. But of course, you can try this fusion combo with any other weapon, although two-handed weapons seem to be the most effective.
