Set to be your home while not sneaking around on missions, Mother Base is your fully customizable base of operations in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. This new gameplay video from Gamescon walks you through some of the more important aspects of the base.

What you research at your base decides what kind of support you’ll receive in the battlefield. Putting more research into science and medicine can help get you better gear, and extra health. They also mention that if you want your base to be well defended while you’re away on missions, you better make sure that you use your Fulton Recovery Device to get some good defensive tools.

And defending your base is very important, as this demo also shows how other players can invade your base. While on mission, you may receive an alert that your base is under attack. Back at base, another player is attempting to make their way to the center of your base to make off with some staff and materials, and it’s your job to stop them. This mode looks very interesting, and I am excited to both defend my base, and try my hand at taking on another player’s.

Sneak into action when Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain launches on September 1, 2015.
