PlayStation Now: For All Your Streaming Needs

PlayStation Now Unveiled

Imagine being able to play all of your previous Sony console games, without having to own all of the consoles! Sony President, Andrew House, announced on January 7th at the company’s CES 2014 Keynote that can you do just that with the new Sony PlayStation Now service. This service is being provided by Sony and the cloud-streaming company Gaikai to administer to all of your game streaming needs.

PlayStation Now will stream a variety of classic PS titles across various devices

PlayStation Now will be able to stream a variety of classic PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 games across different devices such as PlayStation 4, Vita, mobile devices and most of Sony’s Bravia televisions from the 2014 range and beyond.

Sony is demoing the service at CES 2014

Sony has demoed the service by streaming Naughty Dog’s The Last Of Us and Quantic Dream’s Beyond: Two Souls to Vita on Bravia televisions. The company hasn’t yet announced any other titles that will be available in the PlayStation Now catalogue at launch. Sony’s going to offer both a per-game and subscription-based model, but the company did not mention a price for either of these models.

PlayStation Now will support Trophies and Multiplayer

Sony have said that PlayStation Now will support Trophies and Multiplayer. Andrew House said that the “…PS Now will allow users to engage in the world of PlayStation, whether they’re existing fans or have never owned a PlayStation platform.”

A PlayStation Now Beta will run in the U.S at the end of January

The company didn’t mention how it intends to tackle input lag and video quality, which are common downsides to streaming technology. However, A PlayStation Now Beta will hit the U.S at the end of January, with the release of the service set for Summer 2014. No mention of other countries at this time.
