Are Watch_Dogs and Assassin's Creed in the Same Universe?

Is it possible Aiden lives in the same world as Desmond from AC fame?

Reddit user Dudebot121256 discovered a mission within Watch_Dogs where it is possible to text Olivier Garneau, the CEO of Abstergo Entertainment from Assassin's Creed IV.

Aiden starts out the game of cat and mouse by  threatening the Abstergo CEO with the phrase "Requiescat in pace," which you might recognize as the famous phrase Assassins mutter to their targets while they're dying in their arms.

You can check out the full mission in the video above and see Aiden take down the slimy Olivier yourself.

The evidence continues to mount for the game worlds being connected later on in the game. When players enter the Secret Hideout you can hack one of the servers under the stairs. One of the ctznOS feeds reveals a father and son playing Assassins Creed.

The dad questions why the assassin is speaking with the person he just murdered. The son replies by telling his father that it's like a confession, and that he is ruining the moment with all his questions.

    I dunno, maybe.

Perhaps Ubisoft likes the idea of taking two massive blockbusters (Watch Dogs will very likely become like AC) and combining them in the future.

At the risk of a small spoiler, there's a log in the "present day" missions in AC4: Black Flag that references ctOS and Blume as well. UbiSoft has all but confirmed the universes are connected, but it doesn't look like they're taking it any further than easter eggs at this point.

There's actually a lot going on in these games about the complex nature of Control and Freedom, and how the protagonists deal with their choice between the two. I'd say that does more to link them than a few in-game emails. One of the reason AC remains one of my all-time favorite series is the subtle depth of the storytelling, even when the main plot is crap *cough*AC3*cough* ...'scuse me. Someone at Ubi is really trying to reach out to people to pay attention to the real world, which is pretty great to me.

I personally think Watch Dogs started out its development life as an AC game set in modern times, which would've been awesome! It's still cool to see how they're linking the games' universes though.
