For starters, you can now chomp down on a fish to regain health. Fishing can even let you pull out a weapon.

That latter option is actually quite helpful, as the new Chapter 2 map features fewer indoor locations for finding goodies.

Below, we’ll go over how to get a fishing rod, as well as how to catch Floppers, Slurpfish, and weapons.

Fortnite Chapter 2 Fishing Guide

Fishing Rod barrel near a pond in Fortnite

First up, you need to grab a fishing rod. These can spawn randomly on the ground or in chests. The most sure-fire way to grab a fishing rod is to look for barrels near bodies of water or on beaches as they usually have a fishing pole or two inside.

Luckily, water is practically everywhere now. A few good places to look are:

  • Misty Meadows
  • Dirty Docks
  • Lazy Lake
  • Sweaty Sands
  • Weeping Woods

Next, switch to the rod in your inventory just like you would with any other weapon or item. Then cast your line into a body of water by pressing “fire.” Wait a few seconds for something to nibble, then reel in and see what you got.

Look for bubbles in the water. That’s where you’ll find fish and loot. Here’s what you can potentially catch by casting your line at any given water location:

  • Flopper (heals ~15HP)
  • Slurpfish (+50HP and shields)
  • Rusty can
  • Random resources
  • Random weapon
  • Nothing (absolutely nothing!)

Much like challenges to find coins in specific map locations, you can expect other players will be camped out near bodies of water ready to snipe anyone who wants to take a leisurely fishing trip in the middle of a battle royale match.

Either try to stay hidden while fishing or stay mobile (yes, you can move while the line is in the water). Keep an eye on any high ground locations where an enemy might suddenly appear.

What’s the best weapon you’ve pulled from a fishing spot so far? Let us know in the comments!
