The launch of Warcraft 3: Reforged has been rocky to say the least. The game has launched without a ladder, the promised UI is pretty much exactly the same as the original game, and those promised dialogue and cutscene updates are really something.

These issues are all minor in the face of the largest of them all. It's one that Blizzard themselves wouldn't consider a problem but custom map creators have to suck up: Any Warcraft 3: Reforged custom games are property of Blizzard.

This claim isn't being hyperbolic or an exaggeration in any way. The exact phrasing of the section of the EULA is as follows:

Custom Games are and shall remain the sole and exclusive property of Blizzard. Without limiting the foregoing, you hereby assign to Blizzard all of your rights, title, and interest in and to all Custom Games, including but not limited to any copyrights in the content of any Custom Games.

If for any reason you are prevented or restricted from assigning any rights in the Custom Games to Blizzard, you grant to Blizzard an exclusive, perpetual, worldwide, unconditional, royalty free, irrevocable license enabling Blizzard to fully exploit the Custom Games (or any component thereof) for any purpose and in any manner whatsoever.

What this means is Blizzard is able to claim any custom game modes and content as their own and use it however they wish including taking content creators' hard work and claiming it as their own.

Punishment for Missing the Boat

It's not hard to see why Blizzard has decided to take this stance if you understand the history behind Warcraft 3 and DotA. Well-before League of Legends smashed onto the scene, there was the Warcraft 3 custom game DotA.

Despite being a Warcraft 3 custom game, DotA dominated a large part of the competitive gaming scene for nearly a decade and eventually became more popular than the game that housed it. In time, DotA-likes such as League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth led the charge into the full-fledged MOBA genre that continues today.

Eventually, Valve wrangled in DotA developer IceFrog to create Dota 2 as a full-fledged titled, before Blizzard could get to him themselves. And so Blizzard was left to cobble their own MOBA together in Heroes of the Storm, without the characters that were so well-known to the community and without the vision of the original game.

DOA

It's no mystery why Blizzard has decided to grasp onto any potential massive hits within Warcraft 3's custom game sphere you would, too, if you were burned by being too slow on the draw to lock down an emerging genre.

The objective failure of Heroes of the Storm doesn't help, either. (Hey, don't shoot the messenger here. I played HotS daily for over a year. Nothing changes the fact its competitive scene has been gutted and development put on the backburner.)

This isn't just a slap to the face to the vast majority of content creators for the Warcraft 3 scene that dump hundreds of hours into working up new and creative game modes, it's a glaring example of just how far the Blizzard of today is from what its fanbase imagines it to be.

It's no one but Blizzard's own fault that they didn't get on the Dota 2 train in time, but content creators for this new half-baked Warcraft 3 remaster will have to suffer for Blizzard's own inaction all those years ago.

How anyone could possibly defend this decision is totally and utterly beyond me, but one thing is for certain: this EULA ensures Warcraft 3: Reforged's custom game scene is dead on arrival.

\n

From now until November 1, players can decorate hospitals with Halloween bits and bobs, listening to scary music over the hospital PA, and duck boisterous bats in the hallways.

\n

Certain illnesses will even get Halloween-themed updates, such as Lightheadedness getting renamed Firghtheadedness, with patients sprouting pumpkins for heads instead of lightbulbs.

\n

those who don't already own the game can grab it for 66% off on Steam until November 1.

The 1.4 update includes myriad fixes to combat, weapons, armor, items, and more. It even squashes a few pesky bugs. But(!), it doesn't squash spiders, which feature heavily in because Halloween.

Gears 5: Pumpkin Ball and More

\n

Gears 5 is bringing Pumpkin Ball back for Halloween this year, which is basically a pumpkin version of dodgeball, and it's also giving you the chance to earn a special Frankenstein skin by winning 13 matches of Pumpkin Ball before the event ends on November 4.

\n

This isn't your typical game of dodge, er, Pumpkin Ball, though. Players automatically revive unless you target specific, zombie-like weak points, including the head or the universal weakness to massive explosions.

Elder Scrolls Online: The Witches Festival

\n

The Witches Festival returns once more in Elder Scrolls Online, bringing with it a gaggle of ghoulish goodies for your Halloween pleasure. The event starts October 24 at 10am EST and ends November 4 at the same time.

\n

One way to get the party started is earning tons more XP, and to do that, you'll need to complete "The Witchmother's Bargain" quest from the Crown store then use the Whistle you get as a reward.

\n

The Witches Festival has plenty more on offer as well, including Festival-themed collectibles and costumes, Dremora Plunder Skulls (complete with new items) earned through defeating special bosses once per day, and the Glenmoril Armor set.

Mario Kart Tour Halloween Event

\n

Mario Kart Tour is joining in the spooky fun this season, with some sort of Halloween event centered around a Luigi's Mansion course. The official tweet announcing the event only said we can get tricks and treats out of it.

\n\n

Sort of unrelated to the event, but not really because it is Luigi's Mansion after all, is the announcement that Luigi is coming to Mario Kart Tour as of now. (Apparently, he lost his keys and couldn't get there when the game first launched).

Much to Luigi's undoubted dismay, the Halloween event is adding King Boo as a playable character too.

Don't Starve: Hallowed Nights 2019

\n

Klei Entertainment's lovable death simulator Don't Starve Together's Halloween 2019 event is the return of Hallowed Nights, starting October 24. The Klei blog post announcing the event's return said it'll largely include the same things as last year, with a few new treats and tricks.

\n

That means Candy items, Halloween Decorations, and Trinkets you can give to the Pig King for Candy. Candy is good in Don't Starve, because unlike other food items, it never spoils.

\n

Last year's Hallowed Nights also introduced the Mad Science Lab, where you could engineer a number of potions with a variety of positive effects — but at the expense of your sanity.

\n

Though not technically part of Hallowed Nights, October 24 is when we'll see Wurt the Merm make her debut in Don't Starve as well.

First is the Trick or Treasure! Facility Event, which introduces Nightmare difficulty, new items to obtain, and more. It's accompanied by a new set of Daily and Live Endeavors that'll run through October 31 as well.

Thanks to Perfectly-Nintendo distilling the patch notes, we also know the special Halloween Fantasia summoning event will include the following:

\n
    \n
  • Halloween Mym (Adventurer)
  • \n
  • Halloween Maritimus (Dragon)
  • \n
  • Halloween Lowen (Adventurer)

Sea of Thieves: Fort of the Damned

\n

Things are taking a decidedly spooky turn for Xbox One and Windows 10 players this month in Sea of Thieves. The game's monthly content update this time around is, naturally, Halloween related, and it's no barebones update either.

\n

Old Boot Fort has been overrun by the forces of evil, turning it into the Fort of the Damned, managed by the Shadow of Fate Skeletons.

\n

This fort can be activated as long as the requirements are met, and it brings with it new Voyages, new Contracts from Duke, and some big rewards. More importantly, these additions aren't just for October; they'll continue on as a permanent part of the game.

\n

There'll also be new arena rules, new items and pets from the Emporium, and even a new way to play Shanties. The full details are here.

Fallout '76 Mischief Night

\n

Fallout '76's Halloween event this year is Mischief Night, letting you take full advantage of the day to wreak utter havoc on Whitespring. Mischief Night kicks off at noon EST on October 26 and runs until the same time on November 5, and it begins "every hour, on the hour." It's a public event, which means free fast travel too.

\n

You'll start off at the Mischief Pyre near the Springhouse Gazebo, and after hearing about the rogue Eyebot JES-2R's dark plans, you're in for a quick tour of the resort area.

\n

From there, you can destroy property and vehicles, vandalize buildings, risk getting tricked at one of the treat bowls, and basically do whatever your little black heart desires — as long as the Whitespring Elite Security Force doesn't catch you.

\n

Complete JES-2R's missions to earn rewards, and wearing or crafting your own costume helps further your progress towards unlockables.

Hearthstone Hallow's End: Doom in the Tomb

\n

Blizzard finally lifted the lid on Hearthstone's Hallow's End 2019 event. This year's special Halloween event is Doom in the Tomb; it starts October 8 at 10 a.m. PDT/1 p.m. EDT and runs for three weeks until October 30 at 9 a.m. PDT/12 p.m. EDT.

\n

As always, there'll be unique Tavern Brawls with rewards for completing missions under a certain time, plus trials in the Haunted Temple for both good and E.V.I.L. to overcome. Naturally, the Headless Horseman will be making his appearance as well.

Some of the Tomb's treasures might seem familiar to longtime players as well, with classic cards like the Druid, Imp Gang Boss, and Imp Burglard making a return.

\n

Tripwire Studios' Killing Floor 2 Halloween event is already underway, with the launch of Grim Treatments earlier this month.

League of Legends The Harrowing 2019

\n

The Harrowing is basically an institution in League of Legends. It's a yearly fright-fest that ties in with the game's lore, focusing on the Black Mist and, well, death. Because it's Halloween.

\n

The big draw in The Harrowing tends to be the special Champion skins on offer, plus various ranks of gear, and plenty of other additions to get you in the Halloween spirit.

So far, there's absolutely nothing about this year's Harrowing, but since we're well into October now, that'll likely change soon.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Halloween Event

\n

There will, in fact, be a Star Wars Battlefront 2 Halloween event this year. Shared on EA Star Wars' official Twitter account, the event will begin on October 23 and end on October 31.

The event will center around the Ewok hunt on Endor, which, unsurprisingly, will be at night.

It's worth mentioning that Battlefront 2 will have events the entire month of October, even though there is only one Halloween-themed event.

  • October 4-6: Battle Point Event
  • \n
  • October 11-18: Community Quests

Dead by Daylight Withering Blight Event

\n

This year's Dead by Daylight Hallowed Blight event, called Withering Blight, was leaked during the Stranger Things event over the summer. That said, only the existence of the Halloween event was leaked. Since then, we've learned a little bit more.

\n

The event will run from October 22 to November 1. Not only will it bring "spooky decorations" to the world of Dead by Daylight, but items from Halloweens past, including:

\n
    \n
  • The Will O' Wisp flashlight
  • \n
  • The All Hallows' Eve lunchbox
  • \n
  • The Pustula Petals offering
  • \n
\n

Per the game's official blog:

\n
\n

You can find these limited-time items scattered throughout newly generated Bloodwebs and in chests for the duration of the event. You will keep any leftover items and be able to use them year round, but be warned: Any unused Pustula Petals will stay in your inventory, but will not be useable after the event period.

\n

Following feedback from the Hallowed Blight event last year, Pustula Petals will instead create a pair of event Hooks and Generators for each Offering used. Survivors who burn one of these Offerings will receive bonus Bloodpoints whenever an event Generator is powered, and Killers receive a bonus each time a Survivor is hooked on a special event Hook. If you don’t burn an Offering, you’ll still receive some bonus Bloodpoints, but not as many as those who do.

\n
\n

The event will also bring new challenges and rewards to Dead by Daylight. Putrid Serum will be a new currency for the event, which can be used to acquire cosmetics. Though there are a finite number of these items in the event, finding them all will net you "six hallowed cosmetics."

\n

Last year's event featured an adrenaline-filled rush to gather antitoxins to fend off an army of mutated creatures bent on destroying everything in sight, plus the slightly less tense inclusion of new items and gear.

Rainbow Six Siege Halloween Event

\n

Last year, Ubisoft treated us to the Mad House Halloween event in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, and while the company's been silent so far about this year's Halloween event, a set of rather frightening looking skins was recently leaked.

\n

obutu3_ posted a video on YouTube showing off new skins for Doc, Ela, and Vigil, among others, all of which are pretty obviously meant for Halloween.

\n

If it's anything like last year, expect to see plenty of Halloween decorations around the Rainbow Six Siege world and, hopefully, see the previous year's skins available again as well.

Call of Duty Halloween 2019

\n

Just like we can count on a new Call of Duty game every year, we can count on a Call of Duty Halloween event, too. Only — Activision hasn't announced one yet.

\n

Last year's was all about Black Ops, and the year before focused on Infinite Warfare. This year saw Call of Duty Mobile finally launch, so it's possible any new event could center around that since Modern Warfare won't release until October 25. Of course, we could also see something in Black Ops 4 ...

\n

Either way, these usually involve the same thing: new skins, stickers, and gear, all won through reaching specific tier levels and completing certain missions.

\n

Stay tuned for more.

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery Halloween Event

\n

Harry Potter and Halloween are perfect matches for each other, not least because something interesting — or deadly — always happens on Halloween.

\n

Hogwarts Mystery will be no different this year. The game's official Twitter account teased the game's Dark Arts Month earlier this month on Twitter.

We know what's going on with Wizards Unite, but we're still in the dark about Hogwarts

PUBG Halloween 2019

\n

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is getting a special set of Halloween skins this year. They're pretty much what you'd expect from Halloween costumes, too, ranging from The Wizard of Oz-themed Kansas and Scarecrow sets to pirate gear, and more, though the, er, happy Lion costume has received some changes since it first launched.

\n

These costumes will all be sold individually and can be bought as sets for a discount.

Rocket League Haunted Hallows

\n

Psyonix has revealed new information regarding Rocket League's Halloween 2019 event. This year, things get a little peculiar with the game's Stranger Things crossover during the Haunted Hallows event.

\n

The Farmstead map gets transformed into the Upside-Down, reminiscent of the opening portions from Stranger Things Season 2. The map is now steeped in red with the Mind Flayer lurking in the background.

\n

The event runs from October 14 to November 11. During that time, players can earn unique toppers, banners, titles, decals, avatar borders and more. These fiendish flourishes will be available for a certain number of Candy Corn, which players can earn by playing matches.

\n

There are even golden pumpkins that hold special surprises.

Apex Legends Fight or Fright

\n

Respawn Entertainment will be adding a bevy of Halloween goodies and tweaks to Apex Legends with the first ever Fight or Fright event, starting October 15 and running through until November 5.

\n

Fight or Fright introduces new cosmetic items for weapons and Legends, some of which can be obtained through completing special, limited-time challenge missions.

Legends who fall in battle will be reborn as zombies and receive new abilities, like a vicious melee attack and, in true Titanfall fashion, the ability to run up walls.

Once the field only has 10 living Legends left, the game changes to an escape mode. It's a race for the 10 Legends to make it to the evacuation ship while the undead zombie Legends do all they can to stop the evacuation from happening.

Bloodborne: The Official Return to Yharnam

\n

Bloodborne's Halloween event is fully organized by the Bloodborne fan community. It's an unofficial official event (just go with it), and rules are determined on the Bloodborne sub-reddit based on which suggestions get the most upvotes.

\n

Currently, the rules include choosing and creating a specific costume, like the Grim Reaper or Masked Hoonter, and using the invasion and resonance bells as often as possible.

Teamfight Tactics Guide: Best Team Compositions https://www.gameskinny.com/k05d9/teamfight-tactics-guide-best-team-compositions https://www.gameskinny.com/k05d9/teamfight-tactics-guide-best-team-compositions Mon, 08 Jul 2019 10:04:33 -0400 Sergey_3847

If you ask any experienced Teamfight Tactics player what keeps any team going, the answer will be class synergies. The bonuses that you get from combining the right types of champions define your team's strengths and weaknesses.

So what is the most optimal build in TFT right now? It all depends on what kind of build you're looking for, whether it's a straight up DPS team, a spell damage team, or something in between with a lot of tanky characters.

Here are four of the most optimal builds for each of these different types of synergies. If you're a new player and really want to understand how to play in the most efficient way, then follow our guide for the best team comps in TFT.

Rangers + Knights + Guardians

  1. Garen
  2. Mordekaiser
  3. Vayne
  4. Braum
  5. Varus
  6. Ashe
  7. Kindred
  8. Leona

This build is predominantly Ranger-based, which brings up the chance of double attack speed up to 90%.

The two best items used on Rangers are Guinsoo's Rageblade and Rapid Firecannon.

The Knight units are well armored and can block up to 20 damage per hit, which in combination with Guardian ability adds +30 armor to every adjacent ally.

The two best items used on Knights are Dragon's Claw and Phantom Dancer.

Since two of the Rangers in this build belong to Glacial origin, they also have a 20% chance to stun enemies.

Altogether, your team will have a massive ranged damage boost, and some proper protection for allies in the front lines. This is a solid universal team composition for any type of player.

Sorcerers + Elementalists + Shapeshifters

  1. Nidalee
  2. Warwick
  3. Ahri
  4. Lissandra
  5. Lulu
  6. Kennen
  7. Veigar
  8. Brand
  9. Gnar

If you like to play with a lot of mana, then having the Sorcerer synergies is the best way to go.

This build offers three Sorcerer bonuses, which is enough to double your mana when attacking. On top of that, you'll get 35% bonus to your spell damage.

The two best items used on Sorcerers are Guinsoo's Rageblade and Spear of Shojin.

But Sorcerers aren't the only tribe capable of generating a lot of mana. Elementalists have the same effect and double all their mana when attacking. Instead of spell damage, they get to summon an additional Golem unit at the start of combat.

The three best items used on Elementalists are Locket of the Iron Solari, Zeke's Herald, and Zephyr.

All this mana will stack up giving you a massive advantage both in the early and late games.

Shapeshifters + Sorcerers + Brawlers

  1. Nidalee
  2. Warwick
  3. Ahri
  4. Lulu
  5. Kennen
  6. Shyvana
  7. Aurelion Sol
  8. Cho'Gath
  9. Gnar

In case the full-on mana build isn't up your alley but you would still like to utilize the double mana bonus for each attack, then here is an alternative build that focuses both on mana and health gain.

All Shapeshifters in this team gain 100% bonus maximum health, while all Brawlers get +300 bonus health points. Together these two classes stack up a lot of health, which makes them very hard to kill.

The best item for Shapeshifter allies would be Phantom Dancer, while Bawlers will benefit the most from Warmog's Armor.

Also, you have two Dragons in your team that both have total immunity against magic damage, which makes them almost invincible on the board.

This team composition is very strong, but it is mostly recommended for experienced players.

Assassins + Brawlers

  1. Kha'Zix
  2. Pyke
  3. Rek'Sai
  4. Evelynn
  5. Katarina
  6. Rengar
  7. Akali
  8. Cho'Gath

Now, here's something completely different. This build is the ultimate DPS team composition mostly made up of Assassins.

As a result, you will gain 500% critical strike damage bonus, which is the most amount of damage you can get in Teamfight Tactics right now. No other team will be able to withstand this much damage.

However, there needs to be a certain level of security in your team as well. That is why you need a couple of Brawlers in your team that will guarantee you +300 bonus health points.

The three best items, which you can use on your Assassins are Seraph's Embrace, Sword of the Divine, and Spear of Shojin.

Teamfight Tactics Guide: Best Champions Tier List https://www.gameskinny.com/43g4q/teamfight-tactics-guide-best-champions-tier-list https://www.gameskinny.com/43g4q/teamfight-tactics-guide-best-champions-tier-list Fri, 05 Jul 2019 10:11:11 -0400 Sergey_3847

Recruiting a number of strong champions is the basis of the successful match-up in Teamfight Tactics, a brand new autobattle mode in League of Legends.

With 50 such units in the game, it can get really hard to choose the best of the best.

If you're new to Teamfight Tactics, and don't know where to start, then be sure to check out the best champions tier list below for some of the most overpowered units in the game.

Draven

  • Origin: Imperial
  • Class: Blademaster
  • Cost: $4

Draven has undoubtedly been the most consistently powerful champion in Teamfight Tactics.

Even when his Spinning Axes ability got nerfed, which now costs 50 mana to activate, it is still one of the best passive abilities you can have in this game.

His origin is also very fitting for any DPS composition, and if you have four Imperials on board, then all your damage is doubled up. Try to beat that!

Sejuani

  • Origin: Glacial
  • Class: Knight
  • Cost: $4

If you like tanky characters, then Sejuani is a great choice. Her Glacial Prison ability effectively stuns enemy units, which gives advantage to your whole team.

Since her ability works like an AOE it can easily stun the entire enemy team for three seconds, which is more than enough to deal a lot of damage.

If you get her to two and three stars, then the duration of her stun ability extends to four and five seconds respectively, and that is more than enough to win any match-up.

Gnar

  • Origin: Wild/Yordle
  • Class: Shapeshifter
  • Cost: $4

Despite his cute appearance Gnarl is one of the hardest-to-kill champions in TFT. Because he is a Shapeshifter, he can transform and gain 100% health bonus, which will make him incredibly beefy.

This means that you can fearlessly put him in the frontline of any match-up and let him deal with any number of enemies at once.

Gnar is also one of the most versatile champions in the game due to his double origin, which is Wild and Yordle.

Brand

  • Origin: Demon
  • Class: Elementalist
  • Cost: $4

Out of all champions in TFT Brand has the most synergistic combination of origin and class.

As a Demon, Brand has a 50% chance to destroy opponent's mana, and if you scale it up, then this chance increases up to 80%, which means that four out of five times this trick will work.

As an Elementalist, Brand stacks up mana for himself and the rest of the Elementalists on the board, virtually doubling it up.

Swain

  • Origin: Imperial/Demon
  • Class: Shapeshifter
  • Cost: $5

While Gnar gains a lot of health by transforming, Swain sucks the health out of enemy units when he shapeshifts.

On top of that, his Demonflare ability sends out a powerful surge of energy that blasts all the enemies that are left without any health, which is truly devastating.

If you give him Dragon's Claw, then he'll be very much resistant to any magical damage, which is really the only way he can get defeated.

Kayle

  • Origin: Noble
  • Class: Knight
  • Cost: $5

Here is the best support champion in the game. Kayle protects the weakest champions on board with her Divine Judgement ability, which can make the whole match-up really anjnoying for your opponent.

Obviously, it's a good idea to team Kayle up with other Noble units in the game, but experience shows that she is also very good with Glacial units, such as Sejuani. So try it out!

Pyke

  • Origin: Pirate
  • Class: Assassin
  • Cost: $2

There is a reason why Pyke needs to have two instances of Spear of Shojin item and not just one. It helps him quickly regain mana and spam his ability that allows him to become virtually invincible.

He also synergizes really well with Glacial units that stun enemies, which basically allows Pyke to dash through all of them and deal huge amounts of damage really quickly.

Aurelion Sol

  • Origin: Dragon
  • Class: Sorcerer
  • Cost: $4

If you give Aurelion Sol the Phantom Dancer item, then he will become almost unbeatable.

Spear of Shojin is also exceptionally strong on Aurelion Sol, which has a similar effect as with Pyke.

This means that Pyke and Sol are basically the only two champions in TFT that can properly counter each other.

Ashe

  • Origin: Glacial
  • Class: Ranger
  • Cost: $3

Just like most Glacial champions Ashe is a good choice not for her damage, but for her stun ability called Enchanted Crystal Arrow.

The best part about it is that the further the enemy stands on the board, the longer the stun works, which gives a lot of time for other units to get there and finish the job.

Rapid Firecannon item fits her the best, as it increases her maximum shooting range, which automatically adds up to the duration of her stun ability.

---

Now you can quickly recruit a very powerful team of champions in Teamfight Tactics without spending too much time analyzing each and everyone of them.

Riot Blocks League of Legends in Iran, Syria In Response to U.S. Sanctions https://www.gameskinny.com/a7k3w/riot-blocks-league-of-legends-in-iran-syria-in-response-to-us-sanctions https://www.gameskinny.com/a7k3w/riot-blocks-league-of-legends-in-iran-syria-in-response-to-us-sanctions Tue, 25 Jun 2019 09:16:24 -0400 Josh Broadwell

Iranian and Syrian players received an unwelcome surprise recently when they tried logging into Riot Games' League of Legends, as the game has been blocked in their countries.

The full message reads:

Due to U.S. laws and regulations, players in your country cannot access League of Legends at this time. Such restrictions are subject to change by the U.S. government, so if and when that happens, we look forward to having you back on the Rift.

The regulations in question are the various economic sanctions the US imposed on Iran in recent years. This particular move comes soon after tensions between the two nations have increased still further when the Trump administration accused Iran of shooting down an unmanned drone in international airspace and reportedly aborted airstrikes planned in retaliation.

There have been many instances, even recently, where a game is banned in a country for social reasons, such as PUBG being banned in Iraq, Nepal, and China. However, this is the first time a video game has ever been affected by economic sanctions and current political issues.

Some players expressed their surprise and disappointment on LoL's forums, with one poster saying "IRAN is one of big EUW League Communities. there are a lot of players here and now they can't play the game [sic]."

The original Dot Esports piece on the topic blames the government for the decision, as do some posters on the LoL forums. But that's not quite accurate since this is a company decision, not something directly forced by the US government or implemented by the Iranian government.

The BBC spoke about Riot's sudden decision with Joseph Finn, a London-based sanctions advisor for an insurance broker. According to Finn, Riot is basically playing it safe by blocking Iran and Syria.

Riot has to report its earnings every year to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, which could flag money Riot earns through subscriptions and payments from Iranian and Syrian players. Technically, a U.S. company would be doing business with a nation in violation of economic sanctions.

Other recent instances of blocked games were cleared up with relative speed. However, with a new round of sanctions set to be imposed on Iran soon, it's unclear when or if Riot will repeal this decision and allow Iranian and Syrian players access to League of Legends.

League of Legends Follows Auto Chess Trend with Teamfight Tactics https://www.gameskinny.com/o0zlq/league-of-legends-follows-auto-chess-trend-with-teamfight-tactics https://www.gameskinny.com/o0zlq/league-of-legends-follows-auto-chess-trend-with-teamfight-tactics Wed, 12 Jun 2019 14:47:12 -0400 Glitchieetv

Riot Games just unveiled a new game mode hitting the Public Beta Environment (PBE) later this month. Players can expect Teamfight Tactics to hit live servers in Patch 9.13, with features like ranked play estimated to be included in Patch 9.14.

Teamfight Tactics is the League of Legends version of Auto Chess, a strategic game revolving around the champions of League of Legends. Facing off against seven opponents, the goal is to be the last player standing.

Each round starts off with players using gold to hire League Champions. They can then combine three of the same champion to form a super champion, as well as three of the same super champion to form an ultimate champion. Champions with the same origins or classes can unlock trait bonuses when put together on a team.

Once a team is ready, the battle will begin. Each turn, players will decide where to move their champions, what spells or attacks to use, and what the best way to defeat the enemy is. Wise placement of champions is key to creating effective team compositions.

When a round is won, gold with be awarded, which can be spent for future rounds.

Riot says that Special Events will occur as well. Only certain champions will be able to be selected in these events. Players will select their team in reverse order of their standing, giving underdogs more equal footing.

Little Legends

A new game mode is not the only thing coming to the world of League of Legends. Unlockable after the first few games of Teamfight Tactics, Little Legends will be players' avatars in the game. Players can only unlock one Legend for free, with additional ones costing 750 RP.

The six species featured above will be available at launch, with more species and skins coming in later patches. On top of that, Rare LL Eggs can be purchased for 450 RP and include rare variants of the above species.

Just like Teamfight Tactics Champions, if players have a variant already and hatch another, it will level up the Legend. If players level up a Little Legend to Level 3, it will no longer drop from Rare LL Eggs.

Little Legends will also be appearing in Howling Abyss, cheering on player's ARAM skills from the sidelines.

A new Auto Chess, separate from Dota 2 Auto Chess, was revealed to be in development during the PC Gaming Show at E3 2019.

League of Legends Champions Korea Spring Playoffs 2019: What to Know https://www.gameskinny.com/571yq/league-of-legends-champions-korea-spring-playoffs-2019-what-to-know https://www.gameskinny.com/571yq/league-of-legends-champions-korea-spring-playoffs-2019-what-to-know Thu, 04 Apr 2019 13:01:46 -0400 Gracefeel

The League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) Spring 2019 regular season has drawn to a close.

With the LCK Spring Trophy and the right to represent Korea at the Mid Season Invitational on the line, it's time to witness who will rise against the challenges and climb to the top, King of the Hill style.

Here's what we know as we head into the spring playoffs for League of Legends

The Format

The LCK playoffs feature a King of the Hill style bracket, with the fourth- and fifth-place teams from the regular season playing a Best of 3 series. Here, the fourth- and fifth-place teams are SANDBOX Gaming (SB) and DAMWON (DWG), respectively.

The winner will advance to Round 2 and face KingZone DragonX (KZ). The winner of that match will face SK Telecom (SKT). The winner of that match will face Griffin (GRF).

All matches after Round 1 are a Best of 5.

The winner of the finals acquires will nab the coveted LCK trophy, $87,935.50, 90 championship points, and the right to represent Korea in the Mid Season Invitational to be held in Vietnam and Chinese Taipei.

The Teams

LCK Spring #1 - Griffin  (15W - 3L / 31W - 8L)

Coach/es: cvMax
Top: Sword
Jungle: Tarzan / Kanavi
Middle: Chovy
Bottom: Viper
Support: Lehends / Kabbie

To call Griffin's first round-robin "good" would be an understatement. 19 straight wins (counting Kespa Cup) and 15 straight series wins speaks for itself.

In the round-robin, the GRF boys almost had the split of their lives. Tarzan outperformed every jungler with his pathing and plays. Chovy, for a time, had a 100 KDA, and the team would out-skirmish and out-teamfight everyone else on the board.

However, since the team's second round-robin match against SK Telecom, where they barely won 2-1, GRF has been somewhat on the decline, dropping series to GenG and Afreeca.

They ended with a 15-3 series score, dropping another match to KingZone DragonX 0-2.

GRF also lost quite a bit of momentum in the second round-robin. Since then, though, they have been picked back up; they only need to play one Best-of-5 series.

GRF drafts have been suspect from time to time. Their first game loss against Sandbox saw them give up four power picks. Their match loss against GenG saw them refusing to force Ruler out of Vayne.

It's something they'll need to fix as they head into the playoffs, seeing as the teams they are facing aren't slouches. Simply out-teamfighting isn't an option.

LCK Spring #2 - SK Telecom  (14W - 4L / 31W- 13L)

Coach/es: Kkoma, Zefa, Fly
Top: Khan/Crazy
Jungle: Clid / Haru
Middle: Faker
Bottom: Teddy / Leo
Support: Mata / Effort

After a disastrous 2018, SKT revamped its roster, retaining only its superstar midlaner and probably the best player of all time, Faker. Acquiring heavyweights Khan, Clid, Teddy, and Mata, and players like Haru and Crazy, who may be subs but are no pushovers, makes this SKT lineup one of its most stacked and talented squad on paper.

They are poised to win; anything less than first is a disappointment.

However, not all went according to plan in the lead up to playoffs. They faltered in the first round-robin, and in their losses, they looked bad. Even their wins looked unconvincing.

Chalk it up to building synergy or hiding picks and strats, SKT has been uninspiring in the first half. Luckily, they've also picked things up in the second half. If their level of play continues to improve, we might just see them ousting GRF and naming themselves LCK Spring 2019 champions.

LCK Spring #3 - KingZone DragonX (13W - 5L / 27W - 12L)

Coach/es:  Hirai, Supreme, Mental, Acorn
Top: Rascal
Jungle: Cuzz
Middle: PawN / Naehyun
Bot: Deft
Support: Tusin

KZ is this season's surprise team. With some of its players considered mediocre, many wrote KZ off as contenders. Some saw the team finishing off in the bottom half of the standings. However, rallying behind elite ADC 'Deft', "Deft and friends" look like a unit, proving the naysayers otherwise.

Ending with a very strong second half performance, KZ will have to keep up their current form if they want to challenge for the crown and a ticket to MSI.

There's a reason this team is dubbed as "Deft and Friends." Though the 'friends' are highly capable, they depend on Deft being the carry that he is.

How will the team react to the teams who surely analyzed their moves and knows what they will do? We'll have to find out.

LCK Spring #4 - SANDBOX Gaming (13W - 5L / 28W - 16L)

Coach/es: Sally, Dragon, Laden
Top: Summit / Wizer
Jungle: OnFleek / Crush
Middle: Dove / Justice
Bot: Ghost / Hollow
Support: Joker / Totoro

One of the two rookie organizations that qualified for playoffs, SANDBOX Gaming is largely an unknown at this point. What they do have, though, is a very good topside and a skirmish-heavy playstyle, which often works to their advantage.

At the start of the season, SB had really creative picks and bans, dusting off picks such as Darius and Draven. It's possible SB could be a wildcard, showing off picks like this again in the playoffs.

Ghost has been a solid botlaner and is finally showing his potential. It's a stark difference from last year, being one of the worse AD carries in the LCK.

LCK Spring #5 - DAMWON Gaming (11W - 7L / 25W - 17L)

Coach/es: Micro, Travel, Kim, Morning
Top: Nuguri / Flame
Jungle: Canyon / Punch
Middle: Showmaker
Bottom: Nuclear / Aries
Support: Hoit / Beryl

Another rookie organization is DWG. Pro players and analysts from all over the world had them pegged as a really good team, but their first foray into the LCK showed that they are just good (not 'really good).

Consistency is one of DWG key weaknesses. Nuguri and Canyon make plays one game then completely disappear the next. They have players to sub in though, so anything can happen at this point.

DWG has the most grueling road ahead of them, needing to beat the four teams mentioned above if they want to win the cup.

---

LCK Spring Playoffs 2019 is shaping up to one of the most competitive so far. With so many factors at play, the result is truly unpredictable.

Those interested can watch the action on Twitch and YouTube.

Round 1  has already begun, but Round 2 begins April 5. Round 3 will be on April 7, and the finals will be a week after on April 13.

This has been one of the most interesting off-seasons in the history of the North American LCS. All 10 teams have made at least one change to their starting roster, with some making as many as four. Additionally, many teams have added players from different regions, including ex-World Champions, ensuring that North American fans will have plenty of new players to cheer for in the upcoming season.

\n

Be sure to tune in on January 26th when the first week of the North American LCS Spring Split kicks off!

100 Thieves Gets Bang

\n

100 Thieves is another team that had an impressive season last year. Having impressive finishes in both splits last year, one might not expect huge changes from this team. However, like Liquid, 100 Thieves is a team that has always expressed ambitions to preform on the international stage. While making it to the World Championship, they fell short of expectations, showing that there is clearly room for improvement.

\n

What better way to improve a roster than adding a World Champion to the roster? Bang is one of the few players in the world to have won the World Championship not once, but twice. Furthermore, the AD carry position was by far the weakest point for 100 Thieves last year.

\n

Bang is not only a huge upgrade for 100 Thieves, but is a player that out-classes the majority of other North American players in his position. His skill, as well as his experience on the international stage, will certainly be an asset to 100 Thieves as they look to make another run at international success in 2019.

Liquid Snatches Jensen

\n

This is the second time Team Liquid appears on this list, and for good reason. Few roster changes were as shocking as the announcement that Jensen would join Team Liquid. Once again, it is hard to claim Team Liquid had a weak link considering their dominating season last year, however Jensen is definitely an upgrade when compared to Liquid's old mid laner, Pobelter.

\n

This move for Jensen is also interesting for what it means for Cloud 9. Despite going through a variety of roster swaps over the years, Jensen has always been the center piece of the Cloud 9 roster. By picking up Jensen, Liquid has not only improved their own roster, but potential dealt a major blow to the roster of one of their main rivals in North America.

Crown Joins Optic Gaming

\n

Optic Gaming was another team that struggled in the 2018 season. Despite a few flashes of brilliance throughout the year, they failed to make the playoffs during either split. Because of this, it was clear that the team was going to need to make some drastic changes for the upcoming 2019 season.

\n

Few League of Legends players are more well-known than Crown. As a part of the Samsung Galaxy roster that won the World Championship in 2017, Crown has a well-earned reputation as a dominant mid laner. While some Korean players struggle with their transition over to North America, Crown has proved that he has the mechanical skill that can help him out-play many of the opponents that he might face in North America.

Will Hauntzer Help Turn Golden Guardians Around?

\n

If Team Liquid was the undisputed best team in North America last year, then Golden Guardians were the undisputed worst team. Finishing last in both the Spring and Summer Splits, Golden Guardians certainly had a lot of work to do over the off-season.

\n

The most noteworthy pick up for the Golden Guardians leading into the 2019 season is the addition of Team Solo-Mid's top laner, Hauntzer. While not the most dominate player, Hauntzer has been a consistent force in the top lane for years. This consistency is something that the Golden Guardians lacked in 2018 and will be a welcome sight. The Golden Guardians can only improve upon their dismal performance last year, and the addition of Hauntzer is certainly a step in the right direction for the team.

CoreJJ Returns to North America

\n

Team Liquid was the undisputed best team in North America last year, finishing in first place during both the Spring and the Summer splits. The team however, fell slightly short of expectations during the World Championship. As a team that was put together for success not only in North America but also on the international stage, it was clear that something would need to change for the 2019 season.

\n

The team made two additions to their roster, the first of which was adding Gen.G's Support Player, CoreJJ. CoreJJ is not the only Korean player that is making their way over to North America for the 2019 split. However, it is important to keep in mind that this will be his second time playing in North America, having played for Team Dignitas in 2015.

\n

One of the biggest concerns for teams when picking up Korean players is getting them comfortable in their new country, but CoreJJ's previous experience in North America makes this less of a concern. Furthermore, while Liquid certainly had a dominating year last year, their support was one spot that could certainly be improved. This makes CoreJJ an even more attractive pick up for Team Liquid.

Can Huni Carry Clutch?

\n

Clutch Gaming has been busy during their off-season. Of their five starters last split, only their Jungler, Lira, is returning for the 2019 season. It is impossible to know how this brand new team will function together, but their is one player that stands out among the rest. Echo Fox's Huni has been confirmed to be replacing Solo as Clutch's top laner.

\n

Huni has proven himself to be a world-class player, dominating opponents in Europe, South Korea, and North America. While on Echo Fox, Huni has consistently shown that he has the ability to take over games, especially when he gets help from the Jungle. If he can form synergy with his fellow South Korean Jungler Lira, then he certainly has the opportunity to carry Clutch Gaming to respectable finishes in the 2019 season.

PowerOfEvil Joins Counter Logic Gaming

\n

Counter Logic Gaming, one of the North America's oldest League of Legends teams, had a very disappointing year in 2018. Missing out on playoffs in both the Spring and Summer Splits, it was clear that CLG needed to make some drastic changes. These changes started late in the summer of 2018, when the team parted ways with Ziks, their long time coach. During the off-season, CLG continued to make roster changes. The most notable of these changes is the addition of Optic Gaming's old mid-laner, PowerOfEvil.

\n

While CLG certainly had many issues last year, Mid Lane was certainly one of the biggest ones. Huhi, their old mid-laner, was well known for playing supportive champions. While not necessarily a bad thing, it forced CLG into one-dimensional strategies where they relied heavily on their Bottom Lane to carry most games. PowerOfEvil was the primary carry for his team last year, and his addition ensures that CLG will have multiple carry threats next year.

The start of the 2019 Spring Split for the North American League of Legends Championship Series is less than a two months away. Though it has been a while since any of the teams have played a competitive match, each team has been busy during the off-season adding new players to improve their rosters.

Here are the 7 roster changes that will have the biggest impact on the upcoming LCS season.

Fnatic Goes 3-0 Versus Cloud 9, Makes History at Worlds https://www.gameskinny.com/csoc8/fnatic-goes-3-0-versus-cloud-9-makes-history-at-worlds https://www.gameskinny.com/csoc8/fnatic-goes-3-0-versus-cloud-9-makes-history-at-worlds Mon, 29 Oct 2018 10:23:59 -0400 Sean Brittain

Fnatic crushed the hopes and dreams of all NA fans after clean 3-0 of Cloud 9 in Semifinals Oct. 27. 2018. Never in League's history have both teams in the world finals both been from the same group.

Fnatic and Invictus Gaming will once again meet each other in the finals. Both teams were in Group D, with Fnatic taking first (6-1) and Invictus taking second (5-2). The teams had to play a tie breaker match with Fnatic winning it and taking the first seed out of the group.

How did both teams make it to the finals?

Fnatic Journey to Finals

Coming out as EU 1st seed, Fnatics road after group stage started with facing off against second seed EDG in quarterfinals. They struggled in the first game of the series dropping it and going down 0-1 to EDG. Fnatic came back in true fashion taking the next 3 games off of EDG and advancing to semifinals.

Maybe the most hyped face off against NA vs EU took place when Fnatic faced off against Cloud 9, with Cloud 9 coming off an impressive 3-0 against Korean team Afreeca Freecs. Unlike in quarters, they would not drop a game against their NA counterparts. Fnatic has an impressive record going into the finals of (12-2) at worlds this year, only dropping one game during quarters and semis.

Invictus Gaming Journey to Finals

Coming out of China as the second seed, maybe didn't start off as many peoples teams to watch but have proven to be one of the best teams at this event.

During quarterfinals Invictus went up against many people's favorites to win the whole thing. Proving to be a real threat, Invictus started off strong in the series going up 2-0. KT came back and won the next 2 games, making it come down to game 5.

Invictus came out winners on the other side, while looking forward they had to face G2 in semifinals who had just beat Uzi and RNG. Unlike in the quarterfinals, Invictus made short work of G2 with an impressive 3-0 win. Heading into finals while maybe not overall pretty as Fnatic their (11-4) record speaks for itself.

Can Invictus Gaming take down another EU team in Fnatic, or will Fnatic show their dominance over Invictus as they did once before? Tune in on November 3rd to find out which team will win.

ELEAGUE and Riot Games Partner for League of Legends Special Feature on TBS https://www.gameskinny.com/7wp3p/eleague-and-riot-games-partner-for-league-of-legends-special-feature-on-tbs https://www.gameskinny.com/7wp3p/eleague-and-riot-games-partner-for-league-of-legends-special-feature-on-tbs Thu, 11 Oct 2018 16:13:30 -0400 Zack Palm

There's little doubt that esports is quickly gaining popularity in and out of the traditional gaming scene. A lot of that has to do with Turner's ELEAGUE, a growing brand streaming and broadcasting esports events and features both online and on television.

And their latest partnership with Riot Games has already started generating a lot of buzz.

Set to air next Friday, October 19, at 11 p.m. EDT/PDT on TBS, ELEAGUE will broadcast a one-hour-long feature on League of Legends called ELEAGUE's Esports 101: League of Legends.

The special will be hosted by League of Legends experts Bil "Jump" Carter and Kelsie "KayPea" Pelling. They will discuss the culture, history, and in-game elements of the MOBA's esports presence while highlighting why the MOBA has been so successful in the space.

The television special will air at about the halfway point of the League of Legends World Championship, which began on October 1 and will continue through November 3.

Craig Barry, EVP & Chief Content Officer, Turner Sports, had this to say about the television special:

League of Legends has a massive, global fan base and ELEAGUE welcomes this opportunity to both celebrate the game's passionate community and provide additional opportunities to broaden its reach to a new audience.

ELEAGUE continues to expand its content experiences and overall portfolio through a collection of partnerships that showcase the biggest titles in esports and their unrivaled community of fans.

The announcement comes among a slew of surprise ELEAGUE partnerships this month. Earlier in October, the esports broadcaster announced a partnership with Nintendo for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, as well as with Activision, where ELEAGUE plans to provide live stream coverage for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 the day after it releases.

ELEAGUE has put a lot of work into legitimizing esports for casual fans and tangential demographics alike. Behind-the-scenes looks like these have been key to that success.

Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more news and info on ELEAGUE as it develops.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) recently announced the nominees for the 39th Annual Sports Emmy Awards. The nominations include Turner Broadcasting, as well as IMG, ELEAGUE, and Riot Games’ MOBA League of Legends

According to the awards program, TBS' ELEAGUE is nominated for Outstanding Trans-media Sports Coverage, Outstanding Live Graphic Design, and The George Wensel Technical Achievement Award. These nominations are for ELEAGUE’s coverage on TBS and Twitch. The company was previously recognized and nominated for Set Design in 2017.

League of Legends is also nominated for Outstanding Live Graphic Design, specifically for Riot Games' YouTube channel. Since ELEAGUE’s is also nominated in this category, the two eSports broadcasts will be competing against each other.

The world of sports television grows larger with each passing year and this year was no exception. The 39th Sports Emmy Awards encompassed a record-setting number of entries across multiple categories and the level of quality continues to show the growth and seemingly, unlimited potential of what is available for the sports viewing audience.

-- Chuck Dages, Chairman, NATAS

If ELEAGUE or Riot Games wins in their respective Emmy categories, what does this mean for eSports in general? Since this award recognizes excellence in television and is dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of television, could this be the next major step for eSports to advance into the public eye?

Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. ANd as always, stay tuned to GameSkinny for more eSports news as it develops.

It's been a wild ride. We've gone from couples that are borderline terrifying because of their fandoms to couples that are borderline terrifying because they are literally monsters who kill people.

\n

But love is love, and the internet is the internet, and you can't stop people from wanting and believing in love -- and then writing about it and drawing pictures for it.

\n

Maybe, instead of searching through the internet to satisfy your cravings for crossover ships, just stick to Tomodachi Life. At least you can guarantee PG -- and only PG -- things happening on that game.

Jigglypuff x Kirby

\n

Another cute and wholesome ship, Jigglypuff and Kirby are a pair that I never thought about together until I saw a piece of fanart and cursed myself for not thinking of it sooner.

\n

Although their relationship seems to stem from the fact that they're both pink and round and adorable, they work as a pair because they're both pink, round, and adorable together.

\n

And there's nothing wrong with pairing together two cute things.

Pinky x Boo

\n

The research I did for this article took me to some dark places, showed me some things I've never wanted to see ever in my life, burned frightening images into my brain.

\n

One of the few bright aspects I found while searching was a brief line that mentioned Boo and Pinky as a couple, and I thought that was the cutest thing I've ever heard.

\n

Two ghosties with differing agendas in different universes, living their undead lives and haunting their heroes. I'm glad someone out there thought to pair them together, because I think two 8-bit ghosts together is the most adorable thing that can happen in an article like this.

Nurse Joy x Dr. Mario

\n

You know which Mario doesn't get enough love? Dr. MarioTalk about a fun game with a cute aesthetic and an intense hard mode. Some of the love for this game was renewed when Super Smash Bros brought Dr. Mario into the ring, but what sort of love does Dr. Mario really deserve?

Though he could be paired with any nurse and people would probably be like, "Oh, cute," Dr. Mario and Nurse Joy make a cute couple.

Slenderman x Enderman

\n

Yes, you read that right. Slenderman x Enderman.

\n

I bet you didn't know this was a thing. And why would you even think about it, except for the fact that they both lurk around at night and try to kill you? And their names both end in -man, which I guess just solidifies their love.

\n

Slenderman and Enderman are a thing, guys. Find the fanfic, look for the fan art, and you will find it because this is a thing.

And you know what? It's not the worst thing I've ever seen. I can see where people are coming from. So enjoy all you can of these two before the Slenderman movie comes out and some really uncomfortable new ships arise.

Wii Fit Trainer x Villager

\n

Super Smash Bros is an amazing game. It satisfies our hunger for crossovers by combining our favorite characters into one game and letting them tear each other apart -- or work together.

\n

It also pairs people together that you would never expect to be together until you hear someone say, "Wouldn't they be cute?" and suddenly that couple is all you can think about.

\n

That's gotta be the only explanation for the Wii's Wii Fit Trainer being paired with Animal Crossing's Villager. Their popularity is baffling, but spend enough time looking at the fanart, and you start to see what everyone else is seeing: they are kinda cute together...

Nurse x Witch

\n

Who's says monsters can't have love? Any piece of fiction retelling the story of Beauty and the Beast sets out to prove this theory -- and people love it.

\n

But will people love it as much if a monster is paired with another monster? I like to think so -- and no monsters go better together than a Witch and a Nurse.

\n

Though most people ship the Nurse from Silent Hill with Pyramid Head (which is also cute -- if you can call couples like that cute), and Left 4 Dead's Witch with the Hunter, putting the two creepy women together just seems like the only natural course of action.

Jinx x Harley Quinn

\n

With all the hubbub going around about people finally realizing that Joker and Harley's relationship isn't as cute as everyone once thought it to be, it's nice to know that people can escape that Mad Love by shipping Harley with someone else -- like with League of Legends' Jinx.

\n

Though, with both of their tendencies to blow stuff up and laugh about it, their relationship could be just as dysfunctional as Joker and Harley.

Mario x Sonic

\n

Admittedly, this first pairing is more of a crack pairing than any serious inkling I have to ship these two. But their fanbases are so large -- and terrifying -- that even if I were loath to seriously include them on this list, somewhere out there is someone currently writing the fanfiction and drawing the art (you could not pay me to link to this), and I have no choice but to add them to a crossover coupling list because of their popularity.

\n

Is it their competitive natures that appeal to people? Their similar "Jack of All Trades" stats in their sports games? Perhaps it's the contrast of the red and the blue.

You remember when you first bought Tomodachi Life and, after you made everyone in the room and your secret crush, you started thinking, "Wouldn't it be great if my avatar hooked up with my fictional love, lol?"

\n

So you make a few of your fictional crushes, and you wait for them to notice you -- but instead, they notice someone else, and you're like, "No! That's not who you're supposed to be with!" -- and now Mario is married to Zelda, and Link is watching Samus, and Peach is starting a family with your cousin Joe, and you're starting to think that this isn't too bad ....

\n

Okay, so maybe this is more of a personal problem. But there is something unbelievably fun about romantically pairing off characters that could never meet in their respective universes.

\n

It's up to you to decide if these 10 crossover couples are more of a crack pairing, a match made in heaven, or a match made in the ninth circle of hell.

As games have become more and more accessible over time, their weight in the entertainment industry has grown. Video games not only represent a bigger piece of the pie than ever before, they’re also shaping the way we think in other areas. Talks on including video game competitions in the Olympic Games have been ongoing for a while now, and the vast increase in cash prizes, possible thanks to millions of spectators that watch the tournaments, showcases that gaming competition is here to stay. A caption of the largest prize pools in eSports can be seen below.

But the effects of the rise of skilled gaming competitions appear to be reaching, intentionally or not, much further than most expected. Developers seem to be increasingly focused on developing titles specifically for eSports at the expense of a game or studio's originality. The goal is shifting, for at least some developers, from “what makes this a good game to play” to “what would be a good game to play and watch.” Obviously, if both can be satisfied, well then it’s a win-win, and this article will be forgotten in due time. However, the recent trend suggests that creativity will be the true victim.

Rainbow Six Siege, the latest in the saga that made a mark for its unforgiving combat and highly rewarding tactical approach and planning, now resembles Counter-Strike more than almost any other RS game before it, especially those titles that received the most praise back in the day. Relic's Dawn of War series already took a leap of faith when it morphed from a more traditional base-builder RTS to a more tactical action-RPG in Dawn of War II. The radical change in gameplay disappointed some but was still well received by many who appreciated the blend between RTS and RPG elements that reminded many of some of Warcraft III's best parts. The changes made to the most recent title have been an overall miss, with poorer reception not just from game critics, but staunch negative feedback from the playerbase thanks to its suspicious similarity to Starcraft II and MOBA gameplay.

And it's not only game series that have suffered. Developers and publishers that once tried to distinguish themselves from the competition are now mimicking or altering their own products to give them a spectator-friendly edge. Studios once renowned for the quality of their products and uniqueness within the market now appear to be making copycats of one another the same way many developers tried to copy Call of Duty's successful formula in their own shooters. Whereas Valve has Dota 2 and The Artifact (a Dota 2 card game that is currently in development), Blizzard has Heroes of the Storm, Hearthstone, and Overwatch (another heavily influenced MOBA title). And then there are the cases from other lesser-known but increasingly large developers, such as Hi-Rez Studio's SMITE and Paladins, or arguably the most successful MOBA of all, League of Legends.

The arena of The International 2017 (Dota 2)

From a business perspective, it is easy to understand the logic in sticking to a formula that has a high rate of success. But decision makers at the head of these companies would do well to remember that it was neither business thinking nor a profitable streaming industry alone that got them to managing games that now account for millions of dollars and viewers. MOBA origins can largely be attributed to the creation of a single custom map made back in the days of Starcraft known as Aeon of Strife, made by a mapmaker known only as Aeon64. Likewise, it should go without saying that other incredibly successful titles nowadays, such as MinecraftPlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, or Counter-Strike do not have their origins in rooms full of MBA executives, but rather in videogame enthusiasts themselves.

Though too early to say for certain, it appears that some bigger developers have ceased to be concerned with making their own thing and are now aiming for the shareholder-friendly, easily successful formulas. The "problem" with the success of eSports is that it appears to be contributing to this narrowing of the companies' views on the long term. The good news is that this gives indie developers more room to shine than ever. Already easier to get financed thanks to crowdfunding, the smaller studios have a great opportunity to share their own ideas without having to worry about being overshadowed by the bigger kids that are all too concerned with imitating each other.

Top eSports Teams of 2017: Who Is On Top and Who Is On the Rise https://www.gameskinny.com/qk2cz/top-esports-teams-of-2017-who-is-on-top-and-who-is-on-the-rise https://www.gameskinny.com/qk2cz/top-esports-teams-of-2017-who-is-on-top-and-who-is-on-the-rise Sat, 23 Dec 2017 11:00:03 -0500 Joseph Rowe

Who's on top? What's on bottom? Oh wait, this isn't e-bbot and Costello. We're talking about both the best and the most promising e-Sports teams of 2017 in this wrap-up of the year's competitive gaming scene.

Who's On Top?

CS: GO

Counter-Strike in its various forms has been a staple of the competitive gaming scene for nearly two decades. The two biggest teams this year, according to ESL Gaming, are SK Gaming from Brazil and Faze Clan with players from Nordic and Slavic backgrounds.

SK Gaming's team consists of FalleN, fer, coldzera, TACO, and boltz. This Brazilian team sits at the top both in terms of club ranking as well as power ranking on ESL Gaming. They won Blast Pro Series in Copenhagen, Dreamhack Summer, ESL One Cologne, and cs_summit as well as placing as runners-up in this year's Subaru Invitational and the North American e-Sports Championship Series Season 3. The video above features the grand finals between C9 and SK Gaming, where the latter team goes 3-0 in a shutout.

FaZe Clan is a much more international team than SK Gaming is. They consist of Norway's rain, Denmark's karrigan, Bosnia and Herzegovina's NiKo, Slovakia's GuardiaN, and Sweden's olofmeister. They placed first in season 3 of the Europe e-sports Championship Series, and were runners-up in season 4. They were second in both player and club rankings on ESL Gaming. They also won 3-0 against Team Liquid at ESL One New York.

DotA 2

DotA 2, the most hardcore of the MOBAs and the genre's origin source, is another staple of the competitive gaming scene. This year saw some great premiere events, with one prize pool being 24 million American dollarydoos.

Team Liquid is on top this year according to GosuGamers. They were the ones who took home the biggest piece of that giant prize pool at the International this year. The team consists of Germany's KuroKy-, Bulgaria's MinD_ContRoL, Finland's Matumbaman, Jordan/Poland's Miracle-, and Lebanon's GH. Not only did they win big at this year's International, they also placed second against Team Secret at DreamLeague Season 8. The video above features the finals match from the International between Newbee and Team Liquid.

Team Secret brought their secret sauce to the table this year and won against Team Liquid in the finals in DreamLeague Season 8. They consist of Denmark's Ace, Malaysia's MidOne, Germany's Fata, Jordan's YapzOr, and Estonia's Puppey. In addition to taking first against Team Liquid, they also came in second against VP twice this year, at ESL One Hamburg and DotA Summit 7.

League of Legends

While League hasn't been around quite as long as DotA, it was and perhaps still is the more popular of the two. It is one of the biggest games to help shape MOBAs as a genre. The two big teams this year that came out on top at the World Championships were Samsung Galaxy and SK Telecom T1.

The official champions of Riot's World Championships for League of Legends this year were the members of Samsung Galaxy (not to be confused with the LA Galaxy). They took home a whopping 1.7 million for winning. This Korean team consists of CuVee, Ambition, Haru, Crown, Ruler, and CoreJJ. They won back in 2014 but struggled for a few years until they took the win in 2017. The clip above is of their matches against fellow Korean team SK Telecom T1.

SK Telecom T1 took second this year at the World Championships, but they are still as amazing as they were when they won two years in a row and three years total. They got shut out this year, but still managed to take home $620K. They consist of Untara, Blank, Faker, Bang, Wolf, and Effort.

Who's on the Rise?

CS: GO

My favorite eSports team of the year is the Silver Snipers. Their ages range from 62 to 81. These senior Swedes surprised a lot of people this year by proving that age doesn't keep one from taking part in competitive gaming.

What's truly amazing about this team isn't just their age, but the implications of having older teams in the eSports scene. One of the biggest bummers of competitive gaming is that it has a rather steep age cutoff. Nothing prevents older players from competing, but many of them lack the reaction times, are too injured from their earlier competitive years, or do not have the time to dedicate to competitive gaming like they used to, and this leads to the main competitors in eSports being teens or people in their early 20s. However, if more senior citizens start stepping up to the plate, maybe we can see different age brackets at tournaments, which could lead to an eSports scene that's inclusive of all ages.

DotA

The biggest team to come out in 2017 that's worth looking out for next year is OpTic Gaming, previously known mostly for its Call of Duty team. This team is composed of members who were originally a part of another team that was formed a few months ago known as the Dire. The roster consists of Sweden's Pajkatt and zai, America's CC&C and ppd, and, at least for now, temporary stand-in Saksa from Macedonia. 80% of the team has been to the International, with some of them having won. This is a team made of incredibly talented players, and they're definitely worth looking out for in 2018. The video above features ppd back when he played for EG and won finals at the International.

The other team to look out for is Fnatic's newer roster. The players include Canada's EternaLEnvY, Philippine's Abed and DJ, Malaysia's Ohaiyo, and Sweden's pieliedie and Xcalibur. The only player that isn't new to the team is Ohaiyo, who has been on Fnatic's DotA team since 2015. According to esportsranks, EternaLEnvY is a big gambler in terms of game plays; he either wins gloriously or fails spectacularly, and he is incredibly fun to watch.

League of Legends

Although not completely new, Longzhu Gaming (formerly known as Incredible Miracle) surprised a lot of fans this year when they beat out SK Telecom T1 at LCK Summer Season. Longzhu had been in a bit of a rough patch but managed to get to the finals, where they surprised everyone by winning out against SKT. The team consists of Korea's Khan, Rascal, Cuzz, Peanut, Bdd, PraY, and GorillA. Considering SK Telecom T1 were the second-place winners of this year's World Championship, and Longzhu Gaming managed to beat them over the summer, we might see them do better next year instead of losing to Samsung 0-3 in the quarterfinals.

That does it for 2017's roundup of top and rising eSports teams. Were there any big names I missed on the list? Any small names I might've missed for rising teams? Any teams from other games you think are worthy of getting recognition this year? Let us know in the comments!

Could Speed Running Ever Become an eSport? https://www.gameskinny.com/wn871/could-speed-running-ever-become-an-esport https://www.gameskinny.com/wn871/could-speed-running-ever-become-an-esport Mon, 18 Dec 2017 03:49:28 -0500 Allison M Reilly

The first speed run I ever saw was the N64's Pokemon Puzzle League. The streamer I found happened to be the world record holder in a few difficulty levels for the game. That stream was my first foray into the world of speed running and the competitive community that surrounds it.

Some of the most popular games in speed running, such as Super Mario 64 and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, aren't exactly the same type of games professional gamers are playing in eSports events. But those games have tons of runners and strong communities that decide the rules of each run, and work to improve times and routes. Speed running doesn't quite get the same attention as eSports, but could it ever get to that level?

I think speed running could become another eSports category. There are aspects of speed running that make it different from other eSports, but there are also aspects of speed running that would allow the genre to expand, reach new audiences, and showcase the versatility of video games.

You Can Speed Run Any Game

One of my favorite games to watch speed runs of is the Mario Party series, especially the N64 titles. Sometimes in the chat, people ask how you could speed run a Mario Party game. The answer is usually the same -- just go fast and save time where you can.

Even games like Stardew Valley and Skyrim can be speed run and have active speed run communities. Although speed running events don't attract huge sponsors the same way that major eSports events do, speed running offers a ton of variety and reaches audiences that may not be interested in eSports at all, such as retro gamers.

There's So Much Variety to Speed Running

Besides the variety of games that can be speed run, there is also variety in how to speed run games. Many games have at least two categories -- Any% and 100%. As the names entail, one involves completing the game as fast as possible, while the other involves completing 100 percent of the game as quickly as possible. The categories really do depend on the game. For example, Ocarina of Time has 10 additional categories, while Super Mario 64 goes by star collection -- 120 star would be 100%, with additional 70 star, 16 star and many more categories.

On one hand, the variety would make speed running an awesome eSport because there are so many different categories, giving viewers the opportunity to see games played in so many different ways. Runners can also compete in different categories, much like the Olympics where athletes compete in different events within their sport.

On the other hand, the different categories can make it hard to follow the goals of a run. With more straightforward eSports such as League of Legends and Overwatch, it's clear what the goal is for each team and what skilful play looks like. It's not as straightforward with a speed run. The All Masks run for The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is very different from a 100% run. Not only are the goals completely different, but some techniques needed in one run don't apply in the other, and vice versa. Both speed running and eSports events have commentators to inform the audience and explain gameplay, but some speed runs can be hard to follow if no commentary is provided.

Not All Games and Categories Are Made Equal

Part of what makes eSports entertaining to watch is there's going to be a lot of gameplay to watch. Matches in some games can run for hours. Or in games like Hearthstone, competitors do a best of three or best of five. The same cannot be said of speed running.

For example, the world record for Super Mario Bros. Any% is less than five minutes long. The top 400 times, according to Speedrun.com, are all less than six minutes long. Even if the competition was a best of five races, that's still only 40 minutes of game time per player. On the other end of the spectrum, there might not be any competitions for the Super Mario Odyssey 100% run any time soon as the world record in that category is just under 13 hours.

I'm not saying speed running isn't fun to watch -- far from it. I'm arguing speed running attracts an audience for a different reason. Part of it is watching a particular runner speed run a game versus watching a race or a competition of a certain game. Sure, it's fun to root for your favorite runner, but it's not quite the same as supporting your favorite eSports team.

In some ways, speed running is already an eSport. There are major speedrunning events like Awesome Games Done Quick in January 2018 and the European Speedrunner Assembly  the following month. And that's just a couple of the bigger events -- there are many smaller speed running competitions happening all the time. Each game as their top, well-known runners the way eSports has their top, well-known teams and competitors.

Despite the similarities, it's not an one-to-one comparison. Speed running could become an eSport, but in my opinion, it wouldn't be the same caliber of the eSports we have today.

The Best League of Legends Cosplay Gatherings of 2017 https://www.gameskinny.com/j1y7y/the-best-league-of-legends-cosplay-gatherings-of-2017 https://www.gameskinny.com/j1y7y/the-best-league-of-legends-cosplay-gatherings-of-2017 Thu, 30 Nov 2017 13:14:48 -0500 CaralineNelson

Gaming cosplay communities have grown tremendously over the past few years, and this especially holds true for League of Legends. Jessica “Mhija” Negrón stated, “Cosplayers bring an incredible amount of hard work and heart to the League community,” and nowhere was this more apparent than in the League of Legends conventions and expos of 2017.

MCM London

Taking place in May of this year, MCM London was probably the first convention for many European League players. Video designer Sneaky Zebra was actually asked by Riot to attend and make a cosplay music video for them. While there was no shortage of Star Guardians or of the newest bot lane couple, Rakan and Xayah, there were also some rarer sightings of a life-sized Tibbers, Kindred, Nasus, and a Morgana with massive wings.

Anime Expo

The Anime Expo in downtown Los Angeles kicked off on July 1st of this year. Best-known for holding the United States’ World Cosplay Summit Preliminaries, it’s no wonder that some amazing artists showed up to represent the League of Legends community.

Syndra appeared with a fearsome glowing headpiece. The Emperor of the Sands, Azir, was seen with some magnificent armor, and Poppy showed up wielding a hammer larger than herself. Thresh looked ready to hook his opponents, and Re-gifted Amumu could be found in tears as Moo Cow Alister rang his cowbell. There were even a few Poros to be spotted!

Gamescom

Gamescom ran from August 22nd to 26th with a record attendance of 335,000 gamers from 54 countries. With a bomb loving Ziggs, as well as an Arcade Miss Fortune and Riven, there was certainly no shortage of champion representation. Thiel Photography worked to capture some of the most talented League of Legends cosplayers in this video.

PAX West

PAX West took place in September, and it starred Neo PAX Sivir. The cosplay was created by Kadee Danger in collaboration with Stoopid Buddy Studios, and featured her weapon which many described as a giant glowing fidget spinner. Those in attendance also got a code in their bags for the in-game skin. Other notable designs included a stunning Shaco and a remarkable Wukong.

With 2017 coming to a close, that's probably it for League of Legends cosplay this year. If you're interested in some of our other League of Legends content, you can find it here!

How to Collect Your League of Legends Preseason Rewards https://www.gameskinny.com/kxxe8/how-to-collect-your-league-of-legends-preseason-rewards https://www.gameskinny.com/kxxe8/how-to-collect-your-league-of-legends-preseason-rewards Wed, 08 Nov 2017 17:46:02 -0500 Ashley Shankle

Today's preseason update in League of Legends brought some of the biggest changes to the game to date, completely tossing out the old Rune and Mastery systems for a new more feature-rich Rune-only system.

Along with the new Rune system comes the shift from IP to Blue Essence (BE), and if you've been playing a long while you probably want to get your hands on the rewards that come with the update. Icons, ward skins, and champion skins await for the previously diligent Rune hoarder, and special emotes are available depending on how many hours you've played.

All previous Runes have been broken down into Blue Essence and their Rune Pages converted into random skins. But simply logging in the first time under the new update won't net you your Blue Essence and other goodies. Check out your Missions tab and you should see how to get your rewards: By playing a game.

You must finish a matchmade game before you can receive your rewards. This can be either a bot or a real game, it doesn't matter -- play a game, and you'll be bombarded with Mission rewards tied to your previous Rune and Rune Page inventory.

So let's say you've finished this part of the process. You've done your game, you're ready to move on and get your stuff. Now it's time to move onto the Loot tab and crack those babies open.

I was pretty pleased with my total 36k Blue Essence.

So how do you get further BE after this initial rewards burst? There's only one real way, and that is by leveling up your account.

Unlike the previous system, which granted IP after matches, players will now be granted BE after they level up. With the level 30 cap removed (and no level cap in place), you can rake in the BE for a while.

This new system raises concerns that leveling will slow to such an extent that BE gains will be few and far between. Who knows if that's how it will work, but we'll be sure to see over the coming months.

League of Legends S8 Guide: How to Get the Most Blue Essence https://www.gameskinny.com/8kkav/league-of-legends-s8-guide-how-to-get-the-most-blue-essence https://www.gameskinny.com/8kkav/league-of-legends-s8-guide-how-to-get-the-most-blue-essence Thu, 05 Oct 2017 15:43:37 -0400 Craig Snyder

Starting in the preseason for Season 8, which is expected to start in early November, League of Legends is going to undergo more changes than we've ever experienced before. Along with runes being completely revamped and your current ones being converted to currency, the loot system is going to be much different.

With these changes come a few strategies that will allow you to maximize on your overall rewards. In this guide, let me explain to you a few simple things that you can do right now to ensure that you're getting the most Blue Essence out of your resources before the preseason starts!

Understanding the IP Conversion

First, here's what's going to happen: Influence Points (IP) are being turned into Blue Essence (BE). If you have 190k IP right now, that means you'll be given 190k additional BE at the start of the preseason.

That sounds like a lot, right? It's harder to get BE than IP right now. To compensate for that, your current Blue Essence is being multiplied by 6.5. If you have 1000 BE right now, that'll convert into 6500 BE at the start of preseason.

Now let's get into the ways that you can take advantage of this conversion rate being imperfect.

Spend All of Your IP on Hextech Mystery Champion Shards

Hextech Mystery Champion Shards can be found in the Accessories tab of the Shop for 1700 IP. The annoying part is that you can't buy multiple at a time, meaning that converting hundreds of thousands of IP could take some time.

This spreadsheet shows the math behind purchasing 138 Hextech Mystery Champion Shards (including all champions). Hextech Mystery Champion Shards can get you BE in two ways:

  • Innately, by having BE included in the shard
  • By disenchanting the champion shard into BE

For example, a Hextech Mystery Champion Shard containing a Master Yi Champion Shard will also include 110 BE in the shard.

As you can see above, that shard will then disenchant for 87, totaling 197 BE. Multiplying 197 by 6.5 gives 1280.5. However, you paid 1700 for the Hextech Mystery Champion Shard. So, you lost currency? Yes, you did. However, it's extremely uncommon that this is going to happen. Only 35 out of 138 of the champion shards will result in a net loss.

When it's all mathed out, you can expect an average gain of 8.4% BE if you do this.

Reroll or Disenchant All Champion Shards You Won't Use

This kind of ties into what we just talked about but for an entirely different reason.

Not only will you be getting more out of champion shards if you use them as an IP converter, but disenchanting them is also going to net you less BE in the preseason. Right now, disenchanting a champion shard will pay back roughly 33% of the cost to purchase that champion. However, starting in the preseason, that's getting toned down to 20%.

Additionally, you won't be able to reroll champion shards into permanent champions anymore. Either way you look at it, you're getting more value out of doing something with them right now.

Devise Your Own Hextech Chest Strategy

This is a little tricky and it's a gray area where I simply can't give you a hard-lined answer on what to or not to do.

Here's an excerpt from Riot's official post on the loot changes:

"To offset the disenchant rate changes, we’re going to change the way loot chests work so you’ll have a chance to get two drops in each chest. Get ready for chests inside of your chests. We’ll also add "bad luck protection," so you won’t ever go on long streaks without getting a skin shard or a gemstone from chests."

Since then, Riot has not released any information on if these changes will be applied retroactively to chests before Season 8's preseason. Two things can happen here:

  1. This will be applied retroactively, in which your chests will contain more reward, protection from bad luck, and the potential for including another chest.
  2. This won't be applied retroactively, in which you lost out on converting the champion shards you get from these chests to earn more BE or rerolling permanent champions.

My gut tells me that chests earned before Season 8 will not follow the new model. I'm personally going to be cracking open all of the chests I get until the preseason, but it's on you to look out for any future information on how chests from the past will be treated. This is a bit of a gamble!

Rune and Rune Page Compensation

Along with IP being converted, all runes purchased with IP before Season 7 are going to be turned into BE. With the new runes coming out and old ones going away, Riot has decided to compensate players who spent on them. All tier 1 Marks, Seals, and Glyphs are being converted to 100 BE. All Quintessences are being converted to 300 BE. If you purchased runes during Season 7, the price of those is simply being refunded as BE.

Rune pages purchased with IP will be giving you 1500 BE each. Rune pages purchased with RP will be giving you an Epic Skin Shard per every 4. This rounds up, meaning that if you purchased 5 rune pages with RP then you'll be getting 2 Epic Skin Shards.

Don't be That Guy: Five Tips in Surviving Online Competition https://www.gameskinny.com/drc9n/dont-be-that-guy-five-tips-in-surviving-online-competition https://www.gameskinny.com/drc9n/dont-be-that-guy-five-tips-in-surviving-online-competition Sat, 29 Jul 2017 16:00:02 -0400 Will Dowell

Competitive games have become exceedingly popular on the online front. May it be Counter-Strike: Global Offensive or StarCraft 2, people have been devoting hours of their time to mastering the intricacies of their preferred game. But for all the pros that pull off incredible ults and go on insane kill streaks, gaming communities have had an influx of newcomers struggling in the new, highly-competitive environment.

There are a few ways to make the transition into these highly competitive communities easier. From improving communication to understanding the competitive mindset, players can learn and improve in the face of hardcore competition. These five tips will help you survive online competition -- even in casual matches.

Get a Headset with a Good Microphone

One of the most important pieces of equipment needed for competitive shooters (or any competitive game, for that matter), a microphone is essential for communication and victory. One of the biggest challenges in team-based competition is to get all players to work together. Without a microphone, this becomes nearly impossible as your communication is severely limited. In addition, teammates likely won't take you seriously without a good headset and microphone. That may sound petty, but when immediate communication is essential for victory, the lack of a good mic makes you a hindrance to your team -- not an asset.

Luckily, you don't need to break the bank to get a microphone. Headsets can be as cheap as $20 and can last you multiple years. If you really want to get into competitive gaming, a microphone is essential. Check out our list of gaming headset reviews and guides to get started.

Learn the Terms

With that microphone, you'll have the tech to better communicate with your teammates, but you'll also need the vocabulary to facilitate cohesion. Learning the terms and phrases used in each game you're playing will allow you to understand your teammates and explain your thoughts clearly. This can be as simple as understanding the common terms seen in MOBAs to as complex as learning the specific strategies in StarCraft 2.

While you will be able to learn these terms through extensive playtime, checking out websites and YouTube videos can provide a quicker understanding. You don't need to study everything, you just need to know enough to communicate with your team.

Understand Your Mistakes

No one starts out perfect, and you will make plenty of mistakes as you try a new game. Allow yourself to fail and learn from those mistakes. Even if it seems overwhelming, remember you are learning how to play the game. Enjoy each match, even when you're struggling. It takes time to get better. Don't put too much pressure on yourself to win. There's always next game.

However, you do want to learn from your mistakes and to do so, you must be willing to be self-critical. An easy way to analyze your mistakes is to record your gameplay. While some games have the ability to re-watch matches, you should use third-party software (such as OBS or integrated Nvidia recording software) to record your games anyway. This way, you have more control in your recordings, allowing for deep analyzation of your performance. Remember to find solutions for your mistakes, as just watching your mistakes over and over again will drain your confidence.

Don't forget to listen to your teammates, either. While they will criticize you, they also can provide helpful advice that will improve your matches. You can go even a step further and ask your teammates for constructive criticism. This will take a lot humility, but it is important to get advice when you can. They may be harsh, but the feedback you'll get is essential improving your gameplay.

Master That Mute Button

But sometimes people are just jerks. They scream slurs and call you every name under the sun. When you encounter these people, mute them and report them immediately. You don't have to deal with that toxicity. Regardless of what others say, it is not part of the game and is not acceptable. These games are meant to be fun, and you don't have to listen to people actively trying to ruin the game.

This also means that you shouldn't be that jerk, either. While you may get angry at teammates or get frustrated at the game, that is no excuse for being an a**hole to other players. Don't belittle others because they're not as good as you and don't accept that belittlement when it happens to yourself. Mute, report, and block these players because everyone deserves a good time.

Don't be Afraid to Walk Away

Sometimes the game just becomes too much. People are excessively rude and mean, the game becomes frustrating, you're just getting tired of the same routine. Taking breaks is not only healthy, but essential in truly enjoying competitive games. Allow yourself to walk away and don't be afraid to stop playing altogether. If you're not having fun, play something else. Gaming is huge and full of opportunities; don't ignore that potential just because you're playing a game you're not enjoying.

---

Jumping into a competitive game is challenging. Like anything in life, the first few hours will be rough, but things do get better. If you're truly not having fun, find another game, there's plenty of competitive and non-competitive games to choose from. With the strength of online gaming, a new competition is just around the corner.
