Did we miss anyone else you think will really blow up conventions? (And when I ask this, I consider Spider-Man, Deadpool, and Link convention staples at this point!) Who or what is it? And why?

\n

And before we peace out for good, Geralt above is my wild card... and I suspect it will largely depend on whether or not the upcoming Netflix TV adaptation looks any good.

\n

And while you're here, make sure to check some of our other cosplay articles:

Mercy -- Overwatch

\n

While we're on the Blizzard bandwagon, we can't help but include a nod to the crazy construction efforts of every Mercy cosplayer (give or take the Dr. Ziegler casual fan iteration) who has ever stepped on the convention floor.

\n

The latest event to hit Overwatch (Lunar Year of the Dog) has dumped a huge amount of new material on us. And while it's perhaps unlikely we'll see many of the Zhuque versions of Mercy at conventions (although, if you're considering it... oh, hell yes, please!) there are sure to be a ton of other iterations.

\n

\n

Case in point, Valkyrie (and alternatively, the recolored Sigrun skin), made especially poignant thanks to the recent re-balances (see: nerf) to the character's ultimate/resurrection ability.

\n

Mercy mains will mourn overpowered Valkyrie 1.0 for months to come, and what better way to do it than to do it while wearing the namesake skin?

Nova -- StarCraft II

\n

All right, so StarCraft II isn't exactly "upcoming" in any sense of the word (it only recently went free-to-play last year), but Nova's constant reappearance in other areas of the Blizzard world means something. It also helps that she sports a fairly consistent character design across all of her appearances, making her a pretty easy character to cosplay.

\n

She's a prime character in Heroes of the Storm, and her character design recently made the jump to Blizzard's big-name shooter Overwatch, as well as a skin for French sniper Widowmaker that should do wonders bringing back this blond bombshell.

\n

\n

For any cosplayer with a love of LEDs, Nova is a great choice for a simple, streamlined design... and yet she'll always manage to catch your eye on the con floor. And if you don't have Widowmaker-level booty, Heroes of the Storm has a ton of new source material for alternate Nova skins that should keep the inspiration machine churning for months.

Kratos -- God of War

\n

If you're starting to feel like most of the characters on here are from a Video Gaming's Greatest Hits disc, you're not the only one. It's an interesting year where the biggest upcoming games are either ones that don't exactly lend themselves to interesting costume design (Last of Us 2Red Dead Redemption 2, Metro Exodos, A Way Out) or just don't have any real standout cosplayable characters (Monster Hunter World, Anthem).

\n

However, God of War 4 brings Kratos back to the world of the living -- and gives him a son. It also flings him head-first into the world of Norse mythology, which is an interesting twist in a seven-game legacy based off of Greek mythology.

\n

\n

It helps that while Kratos' base design hasn't changed much, his outfit has been given a little more of an update to correspond with his new surroundings. And what's more, while the original unstoppable rage machine of the original games was what gave Kratos his initial appeal, this unchanging, static ball of hatred was beginning to wear.

\n

A little redemption and a new kind of appeal (what's this, real humanity?) in Kratos sounds like it's in the cards for the God of War franchise, which is why you're much more likely to see a return to cons this year.

Sophitia -- Soulcalibur VI

\n

A sword-wielding staple of the bounce, bounce jiggle, jiggle fest that is the Soulcalibur series, seraphic Sophitia has always more or less managed to walk a fine line between gracefulness and gratuitous boobage -- at least in comparison to, say, Ivy.

\n

Gravity works in every lady's favor in this fighting game franchise, and Soul Calibur 6 aims to bring more story to the franchise, as well as additional mechanics that will help players through its more-than-button-mash learning curve, which should help bring it back to the forefront of the cosplaying community.

\n

Although this iteration has her shirt slit down almost to her naval (no one is fooled by those laces), Sophitia still remains one of the easiest of the reoccurring SC characters to cosplay -- one that keeps all the goods in place, while still allowing for a little leeway when it comes to having the perfect body.

\n

She's also cooler than Cassandra, but that might just be my bias showing.

Fury -- Darksiders III

\n

Aside from my sheer -- and unashamed -- attraction to any pretty face with bright red hair, Fury, from the upcoming hack and slash Darksiders 3easily makes an appearance on this list. Packing a serious punch in both character design and updated apocalyptic lore, there's little doubt other cosplayers will feel the same about D3's heroine.

\n

Originally introduced in Darksiders as one of the Four Horsemen, Darksiders 3 will place the blade-mage center stage as a graceful, cartwheeling, blade whipping protagonist.

\n

Fury Cosplay Germia

\n

The main thing holding keeping early cosplayers from cosplaying as Fury is that her costume isn't an overly simple one craft -- and there just aren't enough resources yet to make it a late-stage endeavor for most cosplayers of any craftsmanship level.

\n

However, this isn't to say that some haven't already gotten a head start: popular Euro cosplayer Germia, for example, has already taken steps to building up several parts of it already! (See above image)

Sora -- Kingdom Hearts III

\n

While a release date is still pending (they swear it's coming out sometime this year!), the hype for Kingdom Hearts 3 has been holding fairly steady over the years. Following a number of teasers, trailers, gameplay videos, and just the natural progression that comes from too many HD remakes, there's no stopping the KH3 hype train.

\n

And one of the most endearing characters from the franchise is Sora -- meaning he's definitely going to be appearing at a con near you this year.

\n

He may have gained a few inches, but our spunky, spiky-haired hero in the over-sized shoes hasn't changed much in terms of character design -- even if his color palette has certainly gotten a shakeup.

\n

\n

With what looks like more than half a dozen costume changes in the upcoming game, Sora's baby face is sure to be a staple in any group cosplay, particularly since silver-haired pretty boy Riku is guaranteed a larger role in KH3 than he's had in previous iterations -- and is just as likely to make it to con floors.

Con season is only just starting to heat up and a whole slew of games are set to release in the coming months that will fuel the cosplay fire.

\n

You're certainly going to see a ton of costumes inspired by new releases, but you're also going to see cosplay inspired by the events and characters of yesteryear -- particularly during the lull where new trends just haven't had time to pop up. See above, for example: never mind her superstar appearance in 2017's Injustice 2, the meteoric hit that was Wonder Woman's origin movie has guaranteed her a girl-power slot on cosplay planning Pinterest boards for years to come.

\n

So in light of that, let's take a look at some of the costumes we think are going to dominate cosplay this con season. From Fury and Mercy to Sora and Kratos, here's what you can expect.

The Story So Far-- Yoshimistu (Part 1) https://www.gameskinny.com/t2sct/the-story-so-far-yoshimistu-part-1 https://www.gameskinny.com/t2sct/the-story-so-far-yoshimistu-part-1 Mon, 20 Mar 2017 09:00:01 -0400 Shark Tank Gaming

Yoshimitsu is an iconic character throughout the Tekken universe. While he is beloved by many players, his actual story is one borne of confusion. Those of us who have played as him (or against him) can attest to his versatility and amazing costume designs over the decades, which also led me to a feeling of wonder.

He is one of the few characters to have a unique look every time a new installment is released, followed by tweaks to his fighting style. He was also one of the few characters in Tekken to wield a weapon, his trusty sword (also named Yoshimitsu), which (if timed correctly) can leave opponents drained of more than half their health!

The thing is after 20+ years, I still know absolutely nothing about him apart from what I could piece together from his end videos, game manuals, and the occasional wiki thread. With this in mind, I decided to start my very own series entitled 'The Story So Far', which aims to dive right into the lore and stories that make our favorite characters come to life. To start this off, one of my favorite franchises seems to be the way to go. That franchise being Tekken, and Yoshimitsu is the first to be discussed. However, there will be articles on almost every main character throughout the series so stay tuned!

The evolution of Yoshimitsu's masks across the Tekken series.

The Soul Calibur Series

Yoshimitsu's Introduction

Many gamers don't realize that the Soul series is also one of Namco's creation, and the fact that Yoshimitsu's story actually begins here. The Tekken series has been confirmed to share the same universe as the Souls series, so to understand Yoshimitsu's life we need to start here.

Yoshimitsu as he appears in Soul Calibur IV.

Yoshimitsu begins his story living with his original Manji Clan hidden deep within the foothills of Mt. Fuji in Japan. Seeing the skills, of not only his leadership, but that of the Manji clan itself, a noble and rich lord extends an invitation to Yoshimitsu (Yoshi for short) in order to enlist the services of the clan for his ideals. Yoshi, being the humble practitioner he is, declines the offer from said lord but is still offered to stay in his fortress for a few days to take part in its many pleasures and luxuries. Being one of the ultimate ninjas in his region, Yoshi should have smelled that something was off. Unfortunately, the lord doesn't take rejection lightly and had his entire village, along with his clan, executed while Yoshi was distracted enjoying the niceties life offered.

Completely enraged at the sight of his home destroyed and his kin slaughtered, Yoshi quickly takes up arms against the lord of his region all on his own. Revenge can be a noble cause, but rage can blind any man -- no matter how skilled they are. Yoshi ends up losing this battle against the lord and his army, ultimately losing his right hand in the process after having it sliced off. Knowing full well that this is a battle he can't hope to win, Yoshi retreats through the tunnels and underground passages of the fortress. Somewhere along this route, Yoshi discovers a prosthetic hand waiting for him among the ruins and debris that lay under the castle. He then promptly escapes and lives to fight another day.

With fire still burning hot in his heart, Yoshi tends to his wounds and fixes the prosthetic to his now missing right hand. As he does this, Yoshi dwells on how he can achieve his revenge if he could not even get close enough to this evil lord in order to do so. With that, he remembers the legend of a cursed sword that will ultimately enable him to exact his burning desire for revenge and live to see another day. He begins his new quest to find the sword and achieve his goal of vengeance. The sword's name? Soul Edge...

The cursed sword itself, Soul Edge.

Yoshimitsu's Journey

Once Yoshi begins his quest for Soul Edge, he ends up touring Europe while finding clues about the whereabouts of the sword he requires. Along the way however, Yoshi finds more and more death (which are actually the clues), as the being known as 'Nightmare' is the current owner of Soul Edge and boy, he really can't control the evil within the sword. Yoshi eventually finds Nightmare but due to so much evil around them both, the sword attempts to bind itself to a new owner. Yoshimitsu has spilled so much blood on his crusade to extract revenge that the evil now chose him to take hold of. Luckily, Yoshi had just enough strength left to bind this newfound evil to his original sword (also named Yoshimitsu) and not allow it to take hold of him completely (phew). With the evil now bound to his sword, Yoshi increases immensely in strength and power albeit at the cost of his control.

The being known as 'Nightmare', holding the cursed sword, Soul Edge.

After containing the evil inside his own sword, Yoshi now understands that there are greater deeds that need to be carried out and foregoes his own revenge in order to do so. The evil within this sword must be destroyed so that the evil cannot spread death and corruption wherever it is. He promptly abandons his revenge and begins his new quest. Unfortunately, however, Voldo (known for his entries in the roster of the Souls series) manages to steal the cursed sword from right under his nose, while Yoshi is sleeping. (Hey, Yoshi gets really tired from his exploits too, you know?)

Playable character from the Soul series, Voldo.

Yoshimitsu's Crusade(s)

A few years pass since Voldo stole the evil sword Yoshi carried with him and now he has resigned himself to helping the poor, the downtrodden, and the defenseless using his wide array of Manji Ninjitsu skills for the better. The only problem is that one man alone cannot make much of a difference. When Yoshi cuts down one or two bandits, more take their place, making it an endless cycle of poverty and weakness for those he intends to protect. It really just isn't good enough so Yoshi decides to try and give more options to the people by stealing from the rich that (don't deserve it) and giving to the poor (who do), a la Robin Hood.

His mission leads him to formulate a plan whereby he infiltrates a local tomb in order to plunder the hidden and lost treasures of the 'Merchant of Death'. Yoshi uses all of his Ninjutsu skills to navigate the treacherous tomb and avoid all of its traps, coming very close to death more than once. However, after successfully nearing the end of the tomb, he finally comes into contact with the hoard of lost treasure. As Yoshi begins scanning the area and deciding how much he can take out at once, he notices a gleaming, mysterious fragment, which seems to have the same evil (from his previous sword) emanating from it. Yoshi again decides to add another quest to his already swamped itinerary, vowing to find all the evil pieces like this in the world, and destroy them. No one should have possession of something so evil, which he later understands are broken pieces of the sword Soul Edge, scattered throughout the world from a previous Souls installment.

Another outfit from Yoshimitsu in Soul Calibur IV.

After escaping the tomb (without the treasure I might add), Yoshi begins reforming his Manji clan by recruiting some local Japanese thieves and warriors. In order to continue helping the poor of his region, Yoshi needed to rebuild his clan and continue his exploits against the overtly and undeserved rich lords through stealing. He aptly names his new clan the Manjitoh, or in other words, the "New Manji' clan. Seems fitting, if completely unoriginal.

Now that Yoshi is back to doing what he does best, he leads his clan on a number of different expeditions. Sometimes it was to save and help his people and other times it was to track and find all the pieces of Soul Edge, in order to destroy them. Yoshi and his clan are immensely successful in not only providing for his villagers but also for destroying every last piece they found... or so he thought. Unbeknownst to him, another rich and powerful lord was in possession of the last shard. As soon as Yoshi uncovered this, he sends his ragtag group of warriors to said castle in order to infiltrate and retrieve the piece.

Yoshimistu with members of his Manjitoh Clan.

After his Manjitoh infiltrate the lord's fortress, word reaches Yoshi about the fate of his clan. Apparently they were wildly unsuccessful and the result ended with the majority of them being killed, with the rest imprisoned. After hearing the tale, Yoshi wastes no time in attempting to find and retrieve his fellow warriors and moves towards the fortress, on his own. Upon entering the lord's residence and attempting to find his men, Yoshi learns that it was his trusted warrior, Tira, who caused the mission to go haywire. Tira betrayed not only Yoshi but his entire clan for the wealthy lord, obviously in hopes of gaining trust and status. This does not bode well for Yoshi and he fights the traitor with all his might, killing him in the process and making sure justice was swiftly carried out.

Unfortunately, during this time, Cervantes (from the Souls series) has risen from the dead (I did say this was a confusing story). Cervantes is the previous wielder of Soul Edge and now that the final piece is located, he uses it to make the sword whole once again. Yoshi's life's work has been reset to zero in this short time, and old age is beginning to set in for this wily ninja.

Playable character from the Souls series, Cervantes.

Knowing full well that he cannot continue this crusade for much longer, but also knowing that he cannot stop either, he decides to promote the second best warrior from the Manjitoh. He passes down all of his knowledge, equipment, clothes, maps, and weapons to this protege but in order to attain all of this, his warrior must fight in a battle to the death (it must be Japanese/ninja custom?). After the fight is over, Yoshi is lying face down in a pool of his own blood but what happens next is even more extraordinary.

Yoshi's sword lies on the ground but very soon it begins to swallow up his very essence, everything that made Yoshimitsu who he was quickly become encapsulated in his own sword. Now, this is where things get interesting. No sooner does the victorious warrior pick up Yoshi's sword with his right hand, that the very same evil Yoshi battled with begins to ignite in an intense, purple color. It begins to render the very flesh off this warrior's right hand and arm. However, instead of screaming out in agony (as most sane people would), he simply declares that he is the new Yoshimitsu, leader of the Manjitoh clan, and that the sword must heed his command and stop. As soon as the words leave his lips, the evil ceases to cause any harm to the rest of his body, containing itself to the sword.

After this amazing scene, there is no doubt in any of the Manjitoh warriors' minds of who their new leader is, granting him the title of Yoshimitsu, head of the Manjitoh clan. They promptly wrap him up in bandages to heal any extra damage that was done through the sword's evil and apply a prosthetic arm, much like that of the original Yoshimitsu.

If you were able to absorb all of that information and still know what is going on, then I salute you, but there is even more in this character's lore. Yoshimitsu's story does not end here, but continues on into the Tekken series. Part 2 will be coming very soon so please stay tuned for the the ending to this tale.

So what did you think? Does this answer many of the burning questions you may have had about one of the best characters in fighting games today? Please leave a comment and let us all know what you think, or even if I missed anything!

Best games to play while stoned on 4/20 https://www.gameskinny.com/yzn0y/best-games-to-play-while-stoned-on-420 https://www.gameskinny.com/yzn0y/best-games-to-play-while-stoned-on-420 Wed, 20 Apr 2016 06:21:27 -0400 Chrisator

It's the highest time of the year again! With 4/20 upon us, there's no better time to call in sick for work, order a couple of 20 bags, and wind down with some epic games to go with the mood. And while you're waiting for the buzz to kick in, you get the chance to pick the games you're going to play. So, knowing our audience, we've done the work for you. Here are 5 epic games to play while you're stoned!

And of course, Gameskinny doesn't condone the use of heavy machinery while under the influence of marijuana.

Slither.Io

There is no better description for Slither.io other than Classic Snake on Steroids. This Agar.IO spin-off makes for hours of fun, when you're completely sober. Now add some pot to the mix and you have an instant success story! The best part? You only need one hand to play, for when the munchies inevitably hit you.

And if you get too high to figure it out, we've got some Slither.io guides to help you out.

GTA V

If you're already high while reading this, we're talking about Grand Theft Auto 5 -- you know, the game where you can basically run around shooting people, run over prostitutes, and beat people with a bat? If you're in the mood for a crazy time, there's no better place to take your high than a game of GTA 5. Just keep the people bashing contained in the safety of your TV.

Mortal Kombat X

If you happen to be getting baked with a friend, then there are very few games that match the soul-wrenching agony that is Mortal Kombat! You'll never get tired of playing this game, and even when you can barely feel your fingers, you'll want to keep smashing those keys and trying to get a meaningful combo going before your friend smashes your face in.

Soul Calibur V

Another amazing fighting game, with one of the craziest and most bizarre story lines I've ever seen! You know, the kind of game that only makes sense when you're as high as a kite (or balloon, however you may roll).

The game features some herculean gameplay mechanics, epic weapons, and great Assassin's Creed references that you know you'll love. And the dodge system in the game, makes for hours of amazing battle fun with a friend (unfortunately, the friend is not provided with the game).

Never ending nightmare

If you're looking for a more morbid kind of high, then Neverending Nightmare is the game to play. This game is surprisingly scary even without the weed --so add some Maryjane to the mix, and you'll be lucky not to have a heart attack (seriously though, don't play this game if you have pre-existing heart conditions). With a peculiarly enthralling storyline, you'll definitely get a real kick out of this game.

So, with our list being done and dusted, its time to roll that joint and get some serious gaming going. Before you get too high to type though, let us know what you think of these games, and if you'd recommend any other games to play while stoned. Happy 4/20 everyone!

Jill Valentine (Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
\n

Okay, so Jill Valentine's outfits aren't always bad, she looked quite lovely with her beret in the original game, but by the time she made her return in RE3, she wasn't as fashion savvy. She looks as if she's on her way to a night on the town rather than fighting off an army of the undead. While the city was falling in to absolute chaos, she was probably just in her apartment picking out the perfect shade of blue tank top for the occasion. I really doubt Nemesis gave a $#!! what you looked like, Jill!

Tingle (The Legend of Zelda
\n

What is Tingle you ask? Well, nobody knows, but one thing's for sure, it has an eye for outfits made for 6 month olds. I suppose when you're the size of an Ewok, you can fit into little green onesies. Oh, and that red pair of underpants he wears on the outside? It's not doing him, err it, any favors, unless he was going for jolly Christmas elf, then he's pulled that off flawlessly.

Rachel (Ninja Gaiden
\n

Like Ivy, Rachel's choice in attire is all about one thing and one thing only: T n' A! While I don't find any of this inherently offensive, her costume just comes across as silly. Whether it's the gawdy head band or the dominatrix get up, it's impossible to take this character seriously when she walks into frame. And you know all this is amplified tenfold by the physics Team Ninja is known all too well for. Rachel, you're trying way too hard, honey!

Pigsy (Enslaved)
\n

His name's Pigsy for a reason, and no, not just because he resembles a pig, but also because his clothes look like something a pig would roll around in. Calling him repulsive would be a compliment. The fact that he is an ally makes you question the kind of company that Monkey and Trip keep. Let's just say he looks as if he should be restrained from getting too close to any elementary schools.

\n

I will admit that the belt buckle is pretty sweet though.

Jack (Mass Effect 2)
\n

On first glance, it could be thought that she's brandishing a muddy, skin tight shirt, but no, that would be a step up from what she's NOT wearing. The theme-less design is, in fact, tattoos and what she IS wearing is just a few tiny belts strategically covering her lady parts. People always say the fashion sense of the 80's was a bit ridiculous, well things haven't gotten much better in the future either.

Lynch (Kane and Lynch)
\n

Remember Kane and Lynch? No? Yeah, well neither do I and that's probably for the best when one of its main protagonists sports a sweaty wife beater and greasy sweat pants. His choice in clothing is more akin to a lazy couch potato than a crazed bad ass. Well, I guess it does fit with the crazed part, I suppose, but that's no excuse, he could have at least put forth a little effort.

\n

Also, I don't get how female gamers can complain about the lack of sexy men in gaming when the above photo exists. What's sexier than a middle-aged, gruff man eating cereal while wearing his tighty whities?!

Quiet (Metal Gear Solid 5
\n

Alright, this one just doesn't make any practical sense what so ever other than the fact Kojima wanted to create a character that would be popular with the cosplay world. Sure, throw a rock and you're bound to hit an inappropriately dressed female character, but come on, fish net stockings and a bikini top? If they were going for the whole less is more approach, just having her flat out naked with camo body paint would have made more sense.

Tidus (Final Fantasy X
\n

I don't even know where to start with this one. I can only imagine what the designers were thinking when they were putting together this mess of an 'outfit'. A yellow jacket crop top thing with leather overalls and uneven shorts? Oh, and a blue shoulderpad just to add a bit of flavor! The character designer must have had his kid's birthday party the day before and when he saw the clown, he thought, 'Perfect! That's exactly the look I was going for.'

Ivy (Soul Calibur series)
\n

What's wrong here isn't necessarily what she's wearing, but what she's not wearing. Look, I'm no prude and I've never really had a problem with the more well-endowed women in gaming, but come on, Ivy's get-up is downright ridiculous. It seems like everything is just going to come spilling out at any moment. You can't be fighting against a tough opponent while wondering if you're going to have a nip slip! I suppose the Soul Calibur series felt like it had to up the ante in order to dethrone the scantily clad king, Dead or Alive.

\n

But hey, that whip sword is pretty kinky!

Sometimes you can't help but wonder what designers were thinking when they created these amazingly awful outfits. From the overly tacky to the completely nonsensical, our first impressions of these characters were met with confusion and laughter.

And there you have it, ten of the biggest and baddest swords in gaming. Of course, this is all subjective and not at all set in stone, as swords will only get bigger and badder with the progression of games and their creativity.

\n

So, tell us, what are some of your favorite big swords?

Caius Ballad's Ragnarok

\n
Final Fantasy XIII-2
\n

Undoubtedly, Final Fantasy has some seriously big swords that could make it’s own top ten list, but to be fair to the other swords out there I had to refrain from adding all of them in such a general list. However, I’d be remiss to not add Caius’ Ragnarok. The sword easily joins Soul Calibur with being both big and beautiful.

Protagonist's Buster Sword

\n
God Eater
\n

Much like Monster Hunters, God Eater is full of huge swords, including this Buster Sword. It certainly isn’t your Cloud Strife sword, though it does resemble it - granted with some add-ons to make it a God Eater exclusive. This however isn't the only Buster style sword within the game, so if you get a chance you should definitely check out the game and see all the variations of this pretty popular style sword.

War's Chaoseater

\n
Darksiders 2
\n

War of Darksiders is a pretty big guy with a pretty big responsibility, so it only makes sense that he has a huge sword. The aptly named Chaoseater, also known as “the angry blade”, has the ability to absorb Chaos energy from defeated enemies and give War the eventual ability to tap into his Chaos Form.

\n

If you think Chaoseater is big already, you should see it in its Chaos Form!

Riven's Dragonblade

\n
League of Legends
\n

Big swords aren’t just for knights, monster hunters, and bio-enhanced soldiers. In the realm of video games, girls can hang with the big boys and swing just as big, if not bigger swords. There’s no shield like a Dragonblade sword, and League of Legends femme fatale Riven happens to wield it.

Rathalo's Sword Axe

\n
Monster Hunter
\n

Monster Hunter is filled with some ridiculously huge weaponry, including Rathalos’ Sword Axe. Pretty much every sword in the game should make the list, but since it’s a top ten, Rathalos’ massive hybrid weapon is more than acceptable to represent the big swords of Monster Hunter. If you're into sword hybrids, give Monster Hunter a look as there are plenty of hybrid styled weapons throughout the game.

Garland's Sword

\n
Dissidia Final Fantasy
\n

Garland may not have an official name for his sword, but we know it will “knock you all down!” The sword makes its debut on the Dissidia Final Fantasy battlefield, and while it might not be impressive in design, it is impressive in size. And that’s all that matters.

Sephiroth's Masamune

\n
Final Fantasy VII
\n

Sephiroth’s Masamune might not be massive, but it is long. In fact, he probably has the longest sword in video game history - and that’s saying something. It’s only a wonder how he’s never managed to poke someone’s eye out. He did, however, nail Cloud Strife right in the shoulder several yards away in the epic battle during Advent Children

Cloud Strife's Buster Sword

\n
Final Fantasy VII
\n

The Buster Sword is absolutely one of the most well-known big bad swords out there - and for good reason: it’s larger than the wielder. Good thing video games aren’t about practicality, because if they were, there’d be no way that Cloud could properly lift this thing, let alone fight.

Siegfried’s Soul

\n
Soul Calibur
\n

If Soul Calibur was looked at in the same light of Beauty and the Beast, than the sword certainly would be the beauty. Admittedly, Siegfried’s Soul Calibur isn’t as big as Soul Edge, but it still is an impressive sword in both style and size. Don’t let the fragile look fool you though, it’s more than capable in doing some serious damage.

Nightmare's Soul Edge

\n
Soul Calibur
\n

You can’t make a top ten list without including Soul Edge. This sword isn’t just huge, it’s the source of so much turmoil in the Soul Calibur franchise. It made Siegfried into Nightmare after all. You know, before Siegfried managed to break free of the corruption only for the sword to manifest into a completely new Nightmare.

\n

For a corrupted sword, Soul Edge is pretty sick - no pun intended, but it does have some pretty crazy variations the more corrupt and powerful Nightmare gets. Not to mention, it gets bigger!

When it comes to gaming, the sky's the limit no matter how impractical. The pen may be mightier than the sword but it can’t touch the size of video game’s ridiculously massive swords.

Whether for good or for evil, swords are a staple in fantasy gaming and through the years they have found ways of reinventing themselves into some incredible looking weaponry.
