We thought we were so tough…

My World of Warcraft experience.

The first time I saw World Of Warcraft my expression was horror. “Look at all those buttons!” “That looks so confusing.” “I’m never playing that game!” Fast forward 10 years and I am still playing.

I joined a server with some friends on horde, leveled up and got into the whole pvp and pve experience. I was hooked. Online every day to do something, talk with friends, raid, I loved it all.

One day my guild and I decided that we wanted to raid Stormwind City. We were brave, fearless and ready for action… or so we thought. Off we went on the Stranglethorn Vale boat into Grom’Gol, riding our mounts fearlessly through Darkshore and Elwynn Forest, and right into Stormwind City. We came, we killed, we conquered. Or at least those were our dreams.

Right away we were met with resistance from the outside city duellers, who mostly killed us before we made it through the gates. That didn’t dampen our spirits however, as we spirit ran back, trying to rez out of line of sight.

I will always remember that there was one warrior and druid combination who completely destroyed us every single time. Somehow we made it through Stormwind to the Deeprun tram. Many of fellow horde had given up at this point, though some of us were still going strong. This warrior and druid combination slaughtered us mercilessly over and over, until the point that I rage quit.

I then created an alliance character, to curse him out of course. I was mad, and wanted to express my fury. I raged, he laughed, and we started talking civilly.

He made a horde toon to talk to me too, and our friendship blossomed. Over the months we got closer and closer, and I switched from horde to alliance to play with him and his friends more. This helped our friendship even more and eventually I visited the USA from my small country of New Zealand.

It happened to be only 2 states away from where my friend lived, so of course he came to visit me. While he was visiting me he proposed to me, asking me to spend the rest of my life with him. I said yes, and thus started the long process of visa’s and travel.

7 years later and we are still married, and still gaming together in the same guild. I am Salioh on alliance, tanking paladin, and he plays Ultimecia, shadow priest.

I still try to kill him whenever I can, whether it is by offering a gold reward for people to drop their Sha of Pride trash dots on him and kill him, or by not following him in PvP and going off to do my own thing.

If it wasn’t for this game we would never have met, and now I can say I am so happy that I play World of Warcraft.
