Announcement Tagged Articles RSS Feed | Announcement RSS Feed on en Launch Media Network Redfall is Arkane Austin's Newest IP, Coming Exclusively to Xbox and PC Sun, 13 Jun 2021 15:34:30 -0400 David Carcasole

Redfall is a brand new IP from Arkane Austin, the studio behind Dishonored and Prey, that was announced during Xbox and Bethesda's E3 2021 showcase. Redfall is an open-world co-op FPS, bringing Arkane's unique style to a new kind of action game.

A legion of vampires has taken over the quiet town of Redfall, Massachusetts, and it's up to you playing as one of four diverse characters to stop them from eating through the whole town.

You'll either be able to go in alone against the hordes of vampires or team up with up to three other players for some much-needed backup. Different hero loadouts give the gameplay what appears to be an incredible amount of variety; gameplay also looks to rely heavily on combining different abilities with teammates.

The trailer shown during the Xbox/Bethesda E3 2021 event, however, isn't gameplay, so while these elements do seem to be core to the experience, we'll have to wait and see more to find out. With Arkane Austin's pedigree, though, and the support they'll no doubt get from other Xbox Studios as an Xbox exclusive, it is safe to say Redfall is a title to watch.

With the recent release of Necromunda: Hired Gun and Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Storm Ground, as well as a handful of other Warhammer games announced during the recent Warhammer Skulls showcase, the Warhammer franchise is expanding at what seems to be an exponential rate. Now there's a new 2D, shooter platformer on the way in the form of Warhammer 40,000: Shootas, Blood & Teef.

Developed by Rogueside, the team behind Guns, Gore & Cannoli, this new Warhammer experience will feature a bevy of new weapons, unique classes, and online and local co-op.

The Warhammer 40,000: Shootas, Blood & Teef trailer really shows off the intense and chaotic combat encounters that players will face, along with the vibrant and detailed world design. Each faction can be customized and molded to different playstyles, though they also have their own unique abilities that make each of them an enticing option to take into battle.

Huntdown Blasts onto Steam and GOG Wed, 12 May 2021 17:07:16 -0400 David Carcasole

Huntdown, the critically acclaimed side-scrolling run n' gun retro shooter from developer Easy Trigger Games and publisher Coffee Stain, will now be making its way onto Steam and GOG alongside the Epic Games Store on PC.

On top of its arrival to the platform, the widely beloved soundtrack that accompanies players on their bounty hunting journey is also now available for purchase. What's more is that to celebrate its arrival on Steam and GOG, Huntdown will be 20% off its original price of $19.99 for its opening week, which runs through May 19.

Huntdown is an action-packed, old-school shooter with a beautifully realized 16-bit pixel art style and a classic dystopian sci-fi setting. Upping the ante from its already intense campaign, the Steam and GOG releases coincide with the release of a new Arcade Mode for the game.

In Arcade Mode, players will be able to compete on a global leaderboard for the top spot as they get creative with their kills for higher scores, all while wielding new over-the-top tools of destruction. This mode is only currently available on PC, but it will be arriving on consoles shortly, according to the developer.

We reviewed Huntdown when it first released exactly a year ago today on May 12, 2020, and at the time we said "it's a living homage not only to retro shooters but also to the movies and cultural movements that took place in that era." Check out the full review here. Huntdown is also available on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

PlayStation and Discord Partner to Bring Services to Sony Platforms Mon, 03 May 2021 15:10:05 -0400 David Carcasole

PlayStation has announced a new partnership with Discord, the popular communication app widely known and used across all spheres of the gaming community.

This news comes from a blog post on the official PlayStation Blog, where Sony President and CEO Jim Ryan said he's "excited to announce a new partnership with Discord, the communication service popularized by gamers and used by more than 140 million people every month around the world"

Ryan said further:

At PlayStation, we’re constantly looking for new ways to enable players around the world to connect with one another, form new friendships and communities, and share fun experiences and lasting memories. It’s in this spirit that we’re excited to announce a new partnership with Discord, the communication service popularized by gamers and used by more than 140 million people every month around the world.

The full statement from Ryan can be seen on the PlayStation Blog

This news comes a little over a month after rumors about the possibility of Microsoft buying Discord, and it further sheds the light on why that transaction perhaps never got any traction.

This partnership is another example of Sony investing in companies to create partners, such as Sony's recent re-investment into Epic Games.

It will be interesting to see how this partnership develops, and what exactly Discord integration with PS5 and PS4 could look like. Stay tuned to GameSkinny in the coming months for details.

Second Extinction Releases on Xbox Game Pass For Console, PC Wed, 28 Apr 2021 16:57:41 -0400 David Carcasole

Developed by Systemic Reaction, Second Extinction is a co-op first-person dino shooter that released in Steam Early Access in October 2020 and has grown in player base and content immensely since then. . Now the shooter is on Xbox and PC as a preview through Xbox Game Pass.

This release comes with a new content update with a new playable character, new tutorial, and new rewards for players to earn.

Second Extinction pits teams of three against swarms of dinosaurs roaming the post-apocalyptic world. The game features a wide variety of weapons and abilities to fight your prehistoric enemies, who have mutated into even better killing machines than they already were.

Interestingly, the co op aspect of the game goes further than just your own squad. There's a metagame within Second Extinction whereby completing missions and activities directly impacts the threat level and challenges other players face.

We enjoyed Second Extinction when we checked it out early in its life cycle. We praised it for its "fast-paced, smooth gunplay built perfectly for co op, complementary heroes [that] allow for varied squads, [and] addictive upgrade system with great rewards."

The Assassin's Creed Universe is Expanding With Assassins Creed: Stories Wed, 21 Apr 2021 20:00:25 -0400 David Carcasole

The world of Assassin's Creed will continue to expand in more ways than just games. Ubisoft has announced upcoming Assassins Creed: Stories, which will be different expansions into the Assassins Creed universe through novels, graphic novels, manhuas, webtoons, and a series of podcasts.

Starting with the novels, there are three slated for release this year: Assassin's Creed: Fragments, Assassin's Creed: The Jade Seal, and Assassin's Creed: The Ming Storm. Each of these novels is the beginning of its own series of books, with both the Fragments and Ming Storm books set to kick off trilogies and The Jade Seal kicking off a series with nine more books to follow.

In terms of graphic novels and other illustrated works, there will be two manhuas' titled, Assassin's Creed Dynasty and Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Blood Brothers. These are set just prior to the events that take place in Assassin's Creed Valhalla and follows the story of two Viking brothers.

There will also be three other graphic novels, Assassins Creed Valhalla, Assassins Creed Valhalla: Song of Glory, and Assassins Creed Valhalla: Blade of Shao Jun. The webtoon releases are set to be new expansions into the story of Edward Kenway, and the podcast will be called Assassins Creed: Turbulence in the Ming Dynasty

It will also see releases on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 (through backwards compatibility) on July 6. Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S release dates are yet to be announced.

Konami's GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon Out in Early Access Wed, 14 Apr 2021 17:04:45 -0400 David Carcasole

Announced during the April 14 Nintendo Indie World Showcase from, GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon is a new rouguevania, 2-D style platformer set in a dark fantasy world and styled after classical Japanese art.

GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon is out now in Steam Early Access for $24.99. A Nintendo Switch release will follow in 2022.

The trailer released during the showcase revealed some of the beautiful Ukiyo-e style artwork, as well as the harrowing combat and eclectic arsenals available in the game.

For those who want to watch the full trailer, you can try watching it below (or click the video to watch it on YouTube because age-restrictions ...).

GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon is being developed by GuruGuru alongside Konami Digital Entertainment. Intriguingly, the combat takes its inspiration from Japanese martial arts, with a heavy focus on spacing and timing in the heat of battle.

What's perhaps most interesting about GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon is that players who buy the game in Early Access will also be given access to the original GetsuFumaDen, which was released exclusively in Japan on the Famicom in 1987.

The game's Producer, Shin Murato said:

Having an Early Access period gives us a great opportunity to build a community for GetsuFumaDen and ensure the game is as strong as possible. Throughout this period, we want to utilise user feedback and foster an active discussion to increase the quality of the game.

We will work very closely with our community to help bring this game to life through content review, bug fixes, and balancing. Our focus is on Early Access at the moment; we will share more details about Nintendo Switch in the future.

Zoids Wild Multimedia Franchise and Nintendo Switch Game Announced Tue, 27 Feb 2018 11:22:10 -0500 Erroll Maas

Takara Tomy, the company behind the Zoids franchise, has announced a new multimedia project called Zoids Wild. This project will include toys, anime, a smartphone app, and a video game for Nintendo Switch.

The Zoids franchise has been around since 1982 with various toys, comic books, anime series, and video games. The franchise revolves around animal-like mechs -- usually piloted by human characters -- that sometimes seem to have a mind of their own. The Nintendo Switch Zoids Wild game will be the first console game for the Zoids franchise since the turn-based strategy game, Zoids Assault, internationally released for the Xbox 360 in 2008. Nothing else has yet been revealed about the upcoming Nintendo Switch title.

It is currently unknown if Zoids Wild will see release outside of Japan. The last Zoids-related media seen outside of Japan was the Zoids Fuzors anime series, which premiered first in the U.S. in 2003 but ended its run halfway through due to low ratings; however, the series completed its 26 episode run in Australia and later aired in Japan.

Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more Zoids Wild video game news as it's revealed.

Shieldbreaker: New Darkest Dungeon Class Announced Thu, 07 Sep 2017 22:51:46 -0400 Skrain

After a short hiatus regarding new content since the release of The Crimson Court DLC for Darkest Dungeonnews has finally broken on what looks to be the next content update -- and it includes the addition of a new class called the Shieldbreaker.

Due to a lack of details at the time of writing, fans are left mostly with speculation about what role this new character is going to play in party composition. Based on her appearance, she looks as if she'll rely more on dodging attacks than tanking them. Given that she wields a spear, it's possible that we'll be getting a back line fighter, which could certainly add some variety lineup of warriors. Perhaps she can pierce enemies or break the their PROT stats -- and with a name like Shield Breaker, that's not too far-fetched of an idea.

As you can see in the image above, this character is missing her right hand. You can clearly see a bloodied bandage and an absent limb where her appendage should be.

It's hard to say what this indicates about her character, but perhaps it has something to do with her backstory. Maybe she had to remove it in order to prevent death by poisoning from a fatal snake bite? Maybe she was a member of some secret order? Or perhaps her story ties in with the Occultist's...

Hopefully we'll be getting more details soon to clarify what this character is bringing to the table and why she's missing her hand. As soon as Red Hook reveals more more information over the next few days, we'll be bringing the updates to you. So stay tuned!

Edmund McMillen Announces "Secret Project" The End Is Nigh Wed, 07 Jun 2017 16:05:11 -0400 glados131

Edmund McMillen, creator of popular indie games Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac, has just announced his newest title -- a platformer titled The End is NighThe game has been mentioned in the past as a "secret project" in Binding of Isaac blog posts.

The announcement came from a series of tweets, as well as a blog post detailing the new game, which will be released July 12th on Steam (with the possibility of Switch and other console releases in the future). According to the post, the game is a "sprawling adventure platformer" where you play as a character named Ash -- one of the few survivors of the end of the world who's on a quest to (literally) make a friend.

The aesthetics of the trailer are sure to look familiar to fans of McMillen's work, as his signature art style is apparent here. Also familiar is the Super Meat Boy-esque platforming -- although in his blog post McMillen writes that the game "embodies aspects of basically every game I’ve ever created". He also claims that it's "by far, the largest game (level wise) I’ve ever worked on."

Also in development from McMillen are The Legend of Bum-bo, due in December, and Øuroboros (no release date). Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more news on The End is Nigh!

Pokemon Direct Announced for Tommorow Mon, 05 Jun 2017 11:16:59 -0400 eleccross

The official Nintendo of America Twitter has just announced that a new Pokemon Direct will be streamed tomorrow, June 6, at 7 AM PDT (10 AM EST, 3 PM BST, 4 PM CEST).

The direct will only last about 8 minutes, so fans shouldn't expect to see too much. It's likely to be just a few smaller announcements that haven't made the cut for Nintendo's E3 showcase next week. But of course, you never really know with Nintendo -- they could tease something big ahead of the show, like the supposed third game to Pokemon Sun and Moon, speculated to be called Pokemon Stars.

It's possible that one of the games shown will be their Western announcement for PokeLand, a new take on the Pokemon Rumble series for iOS and Android that already has a beta going in Japan.

Fans can watch the Direct via Nintendo's official YouTube channel, its official Twitch channel, or over on the Nintendo website

Even if you can't tune in, check back here on GameSkinny to see what unfolds in this Direct right as it's happening!

Platinum Games In Discussions For Bayonetta 3 Wed, 31 May 2017 14:36:37 -0400 Greyson Ditzler

In a recent interview with SourceGaming at this year's BitSummit convention in Kyoto, Japan, head producer of Platinum Games Atsushi Inaba confirmed that Bayonetta 3 is currently being discussed at Platinum.

No information was provided on the game's development cycle, and no release window was confirmed. When asked by SourceGaming whether or not Platinum Games intended to keep Bayonetta as the series protagonist, potentially replace her, or add new characters, Inaba said:

“I would like to make Bayonetta 3. We’re talking within the company – even now – about what to do. Of course, that’s just something that you talk about when you’re making a series – do you want to keep the same protagonist? There’s plenty of precedent for changing protagonists, and so that is something we discuss – do we want to keep the same one, have a different one, add new ones – but that’s certainly not anything I can say for sure at this point."

Inaba also briefly discussed his thoughts on the Nintendo Switch and bringing even more Platinum classics to the PC, among other things.

The Bayonetta series was Platinum Games' first original IP, and it has been met over the years with acclaim from critics and gamers alike because of its unique style and fast-paced action.

Bayonetta is currently available for Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and Wii U. Bayonetta 2 still remains a Wii U exclusive. Platinum games recently released Vanquish for the PC.
