All Wastelander Challenge Locations in Fortnite (& How to Complete Them)

Are you up for the challenge?

If you want to make some bonus XP toward your Battle Pass in Fortnite, you can do so quickly by completing weekly or story quests. Or, if you’re really ready to prove yourself, you can accept some Wastelander Challenges. Here’s where to find them and how they work.

Where to Find All Wasteland Beacons in Fortnite

To accept a Wastelander Challenge, you’ll need to venture to one of the four Wasteland Beacons on the map. They are spread out in different locations and allow you to accept a challenge at random.

Here’s where you’ll find them:

  • Rebel’s Roost
  • Southeast of Classy Courts
  • Southeast of Reckless Railways
  • On the little isle between Brutal Beachhead and Redline Rig

How to Get Wastelander Challenges

Once you arrive at the location, approach the beacon, which appears on your mini-map and screen like a car grill. Interact with the beacon by pressing X, Square, or E on it.

When you interact with it, it will reveal a random challenge that you can accept from it. Press accepting will activate it until you are killed or the round ends. It doesn’t cost any Gold Bars to do so; it just has a very specific cost for you to follow instead.

What Are Wastelander Challenges in Fortnite?

Wastelander Challenges are specifically meant to help you earn bonus XP during your match. When you activate them, you will earn 2x XP for completing accolades. Accolades are like accomplishments you complete while you play, like eliminating a specific amount of enemies, catching a particular amount of fish, etc.

However, along with the bonus XP, you will also receive a negative effect, like taking damage for picking up items or standing still. The whole challenge aspect is overcoming the negative to reap even greater rewards (which is more progress in your Battle Pass).

All Wastelander Challenges

I’ve seen three different challenges at the Wastelander Beacons so far. They will appear at random, no matter what location you go to. Here’s what they do:

  • Full Throttle – Take damage while standing still.
    • How to complete: Keep moving no matter what. You can pick up items as you slide or run by, so just keep running around and don’t stop. (Careful using cars while this is activated because cars can get stuck or run into things very easily and force you to stop).
  • Burnin’ Hot Items – Take damage when picking up items.
    • How to complete: Avoid accepting the challenge until you’ve picked up as much loot as possible. Then, avoid picking up anything else (including ammo and building materials). The best way to avoid picking up items is by using a car with a gun mod. Or, have some meds or healing on you to heal up every time you need to pick something up.
  • Perma-Damage – Health and Shield items are not usable.
    • How to complete: You can’t use healing items in your inventory. However, you can still receive health benefits and be shielded from Slurp Barrels and Cacti, so use them to your advantage.

How to Cancel a Wastelander Challenge

If you don’t want the Wastelander Challenge active anymore, especially that pesky Burnin’ items ones, you can always get rid of them. All you need to do to cancel a challenge is head back to Wasteland Beacon.

At the beacon, interact with it again, and you will be given the option to cancel. However, you’ll need to pay 500 Gold Bars to do so. You can usually find Gold Bars in chests, cash registers, and a lot of them in bunkers. Stock up ahead of time so you can have them when you need them.

After canceling a challenge, you can accept another challenge from any beacon around the map. And you can always cancel that one, too, if you have the right amount of Gold Bars. The challenge on the beacon won’t change until the next match, though. So, if you’re looking for a different challenge, head to one of the other locations.
